With the technology based industry’s continuing growth, the government decided to upgrade twenty National Institutes of Technology to full-fledged technical universities. Parliament passed enabling legislation, the National Institutes of Technology Act in 2007 that took effect on 15 August of that year with the target to fulfill the need for quality manpower in the field of engineering, science, and technology and to provide consistent governance, fee structure, and rules across the NITs. Formerly Maulana Azad College of Technology (MACT), is also known as National Institute of Technology, Bhopal (NIT Bhopal. It is an Institute of National Importance under the NIT Act. Situated in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, MANIT was started in 1960 was named after the first Minister of Education, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.
MACT started functioning in 1960 at Govt S.V. Polytechnic with an intake of 120 students and seven faculty members. It was one of the first eight Regional Engineering Colleges. Formerly Motilal Nehru Regional Engineering College (MNREC), is a public higher education institute located in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. It is classified as an Institute of National Importance.
In a survey carried out by ET Now-Economic Times jointly, MNNIT Allahabad was declared as the best engineering institution of North India and ranked No.1 in overall ranking. It is also ranked 3rd in all 30 NIT’s and stands 1st in North India.
