While the world was caught up with the Paris attacks, a tragedy has struck our own shores, in the form of Chennai rains.

Schools and colleges have been shut down, and intra-city train services have been suspended as well. Met officials have been warning of a depression caused by low pressure stemming from the south east Bay of Bengal.

While the threat of a depression has now passed, Chennai is still grappling with the reality of the death toll, which has risen to 60 now.

Here are some images from the Chennai rains:

It is sad that the entire issue got sidestepped due to the Paris Attacks. The Met department has declared the threat of depression to have passed, but the preparedness of a metro city like Chennai lies in doubt after the intense rainfall.
