Good news Hyderabad, Lamakaan is not shutting down

If you live in Hyderabad, you would have heard of Lamakaan.

It is the city’s open cultural space that promotes arts, literature, theatre, and debates. The space has been host to countless events over the years, and if you have an idea for an event, you can approach them and get a slot in a matter of a few hours.

Lamakaan is the place where a number of singers, dancers, and theatre actors began their careers, and it has become a cultural icon of sorts in Hyderabad. However, people were in for a shock when it was revealed on social media that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) was planning to shut it down.

The reasons cited were that the residents of the area were getting troubled by the vehicles parked, and the sounds and noise from the place. Immediately, a campaign to save the place began, and was met with overwhelming response from netizens of Hyderabad.

In a few hours, it was revealed that Lamakaan is safe, and faces no threat of closure. The founders of the cultural space announced that the place does not face any threat of closure, and they are discussing with the authorities to take down the notice that was served to them.

If you haven’t been to Lamakaan, you could walk in on any random day, and treat yourself to musical performances, theatre shows, and debates.

And don’t forget to have the Neembu Pani and Samosas!!
