The website was named after its creator, Google employee Orkut Büyükkökten. In 2008 Google announced that Orkut would be fully managed and operated in Brazil, by Google Brazil, in the city of Belo Horizonte. This was decided due to the large Brazilian user base and growth of legal issues. Interesting Fact : India was the second biggest userbase for Orkut.  Brazil being the first.

AOL

aolAOL originally provided dial-up service to millions of Americans. At the height of its success, it purchased the media conglomerate Time Warner. However, as dial-up rapidly lost ground to broadband in the mid-2000s, AOL’s fortunes significantly retracted and it lost the vast majority of its value, laying off thousands of employees. AOL was eventually spun off, and Time Warner is worth fourteen times the value of AOL, as of late 2015.

Rediff Mail

rediffmailRediffmail was a web based e-mail service provided by Rediff.com. The service was around 95 million registered usernames. It was one of the first web-clients to provide unlimited free storage space. In 2006, Rediff launched an AJAX-based mail interface. Rediffmail also allowed users to send and receive mails in many Indian languages on Microsoft Windows, that being again an innovation. I remember having a rediff mail, but then again never used it sadly.
