Brand Bollywood is a cult in itself. Some films may not reflect the reality whereas others start a trend. It is said film is a reflection of society and rightly so. The Bollywood films of 90’s portrayed careers like doctor, lawyer, policeman and super rich businessman owning palatial mansions. The films produced now have come of age. It doesn’t portray heroes only as doctors or lawyers, it has brought many new careers into the limelight. However, parents still want their children to become doctors or engineers. Here is a great idea, you can watch some great films with your parents that will open up their minds to some new career options. Hair Stylist:
Hair styling has become a cool profession. It has become very trendy to become a hair stylist and open one’s own salon. Remember, Mandira Khan’s character essayed by Kajol who opened her own salon. This profession was also made popular by Kareena Kapoor Khan who played the quick witted hair stylist Riana Braganza in the film ‘Ek Main Aur Ek Tu’. These films definitely left an indelible impression on the minds of the youth who are going abroad to pursue courses on hair styling and coming back to the country to start their own salon and line of products. There is a huge demand for hair stylists who has a passion for different hairstyles.
Radio Jockey:
Many parents wouldn’t like their children to become radio jockeys but many children would love to become a RJ or DJ. What made them want this career path? Of course, watching films like ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’ where Vidya Balan played the role of Janhavi a radio jockey who’s voice Munna Bhai loved to hear. She used to say ‘Good Morning Mumbai’ in a particular fashion that brightened up the atmosphere. The idea a human giving voice to animal characters has captured the mind of the audience. Ayesha Takia played the role of Sehar in ‘Sunday’ where she was a voice-over artist. Though the film was not a box office hit the character of Ayesha Takia still remains fresh in public memory. Giving voice overs has become fashionable since then. Celebs are also deeply influenced by this new trend it seems. Recently, Priyanka Chopra gave her voice for Kaa the python for Walt Disney’s ‘The Jungle Book’. Becoming a voice over artist can be a new job option for those who have a clear diction and a good voice quality.
Art Restoration:
Remember watching ‘Love Aajkal’ where Meera Pandit was restoring frescoes with a long brush. Her character was fresh so was the career she was pursuing. Though archaeologists have been restoring frescoes and other objects of antiquity ages ago yet this film gave a romantic veneer to the career of an art restorer.

Many food based films were made in Bollywood recently that made the job of a chef the most ‘in’ thing. It is actually cool to be a chef these days. Photographer:
Photography will never go out of fashion courtesy Bollywood. Be it nature photography or working in a big media house as an intern. Ranbir Kapoor showed the path to the youth as a photographer for a magazine ‘Mumbai Beat’ in the film ‘Wake Up Sid’. Photography is not a new career option but it was viewed with Skepticism. Bollywood brought it back to limelight as a viable career option that youths can pursue. Now photography clubs have mushroomed throughout the country. The likes of Atul Kasbekar and Daboo Ratnani are an inspiration to budding photographers.
Sketch Artist:
This is a great example of a passion turning into profession. Prateik Babbar made the profession of sketch artist appear attractive to the youth. His role in the blockbuster hit ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na’ left an impression in the minds of the young audience.
