The resulting chaos, on one hand is too much to bear, while on the other, a small group of ordinary civilians have taken this as a challenge and are rescuing people from under the rubble. They call themselves, WHITE HELMETS. They are members of Syria Civil Defence, and according to the THE WHITE HELMETS web page, “When the bombs rain down, they rush in. In a place where public services no longer function these unarmed volunteers risk their lives to help anyone in need – regardless of their religion or political views.”
