Interesting fact, Avvai Shanmughi is the Tamil remake of the Hollywood slapstick comedy movie- Ms. Doubtfire, played by movie legend Robin Williams. In this film, Kamal Hassan plays the role of Pandiyan, a divorcee with limited parental rights. He badly misses his daughter and so he tries to abduct his daughter from his ex-wife, but he gets caught. So later, he disguises himself as a female nanny to spend time with her. This Tamil comedy movie shows how Padayappa’s family is humiliated by an uncle after which he is forced to leave their home. After working hard, Padayappa restores his family’s honour, but old enmities and a jealous woman continue to stir problems.   • PAMMAL K. SAMBANDHAM (2002)

Pammal Kalyana Sambandham, a stuntman and Dr. Janaki, a reputed surgeon, dislike each other from their first meeting itself. One day, when Pammal is injured she happens to be performing surgery for him. Janaki performs an emergency surgery on him and saves his life, but during the surgery, her prized possession (a wristwatch gifted to her by her aunt) falls into his stomach, which is detected by the X-Ray. She pretends to fall in love with Sambandham, with the intention to somehow sedate him and perform the surgery again to retrieve the watch. Sambandham, is unaware that Janaki’s watch is in his stomach due to a mix-up with another patient’s X-Ray. He then mistakes Janaki’s romantic gestures to be genuine, and falls in love with her. The whole story continues to become a comedic mess but comes to a happy ending.

This Tamil Movie shows Kollywood regular Kamal Haasan playing the witty role of 4 men at the same time. The film starts off with a wicked man separating a set of quadruplets after their birth. While one of them ends up with their biological father, the other three find new homes. Things take a turn when fate brings them all together. This family entertainer won’t leave you bored but will keep you in suspense and well entertained.

  • MAGALIR MATTUM (1994)

Magalir Mattum, which translates to Ladies Only, is a 1994 Indian Tamil-language satirical film. If you are in the mood for a funny mix up, all women, retro film, this is the movie for you. It shows three female employees who are fed up with their lecherous boss and his behaviour towards them. They then come up with a plan to get even. Unfortunately, the plan goes wrong and he ends up in the hospital. But a mix up happens and they get stuck with the dead body of a terrorist.

Mannaru falls in love with his neighbour, Leela, who is a skilled dancer and singer. But since he does not know how to sing, he takes help from his musically talented friend. Now, while his friend is singing in the background, the man lip-syncs the lyrics to woo his lady love. This simple comedy film will show you the magnificent world of the 60’s and the people of that time. It’s a classic comedy and is worth giving a watch.
