1. Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011)

Pyar ka punchnamaWith collections of merely around 10 crores in spite of being a cult hit among youngsters, this movie was not a hit. Being a movie targeted at guys, women couldn’t connect to the film. Kartik Aaryan’s speech was the only highlight of the film. However, if there was better casting, acting, and a tighter script, Pyaar Ka Punchnama could have gone on to become a great success.

2. Lakshya (2004)

LakshyaDespite Hrithik and Preity’s great performances, this movie couldn’t do much to gather audiences. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s music was promising and Farhan’s direction was pretty awesome. The movie had a clear cut view of a common guy who never had an aim in life, but ends up entering into the Indian Army as an officer. This movie motivated many youngsters to join the Army. Lakshya could have been a hit because it also grabbed a few awards like ‘National Film Award for Best Choreography- Prabhu Deva’, Filmfare Awards for ‘Best Cinematographer- Christopher Popp’ and again ‘Best Choreography- Prabhu Deva’.

With a total grossing of around 11 crores this movie was an epic fail for Farhan Akhtar and a flop movie added to Hrithik’s and Big B’s list. Although this movie still is considered an inspiration by many youngsters, is also considered huge flop by people on the other side of the track.

  1. Andaz Apna Apna (1994)

Andaz Apna ApnaDirected by Rajkumar Santoshi and starring superstars of today Aamir Khan and Salman Khan along with actresses like Raveena Tandon and Karishma Kapoor, Andaz Apna Apna was a flop. A movie about two daydreamers competing for an heiress, this was Aamir and Salman’s show.

Today, Andaz Apna Apna is considered a cult hit, and gets shown on TV quite a few times. However, in spite of being acknowledged as a classic comedy caper today, it didn’t do well at all when it released at the box office.

  1. Ghulam (1998)

GhulamA film by Vikram Bhatt, Ghulam was the story of a boxing champion, starring Aamir Khan and Rani Mukherjee in the lead. This movie was reviewed as ‘above average’ by audiences and critics. Even though there exists a misconception that the film was a superhit, in reality, the film didn’t rake in the moolah at the box office.

  1. Roy (2015)

RoyRoy, a film starring Ranbir Kapoor, Jaqueline Fernandez and Arjun Rampal, was the debut film for director Vikramjit Singh and produced by Bhushan Kumar. Roy is a movie based on a film-maker who writes stories on thefts, robberies. Ranbir playing Roy in this film is an international art thief and Jaqueline (playing Ayesha in the movie) is also a film-maker. This all seem to be a bit confusing isn’t it? Well, the story line was a bit messy and confusing but it still could have been a hit if the script had been fine-tuned a bit. In spite of fantastic songs crooned by Arijit Singh, Roy sank at the box office.

  1. Rockstar (2011)

RockstarDirected by Imtiaz Ali and starring Nargis Fakhri and Ranbir Kapoor, Rockstar is the story of a common man who wishes to become a rockstar. Rockstar was liked by Ranbir fans, which quite obviously were girls. Rockstar had the music of A. R. Rahman which was hugely appreciated and even today the songs of the movie are hit among the people.

In spite of beautiful locations and heart-thumping music from AR Rahman, Rockstar couldn’t be declared a superhit. Perhaps it was the lack of acting talent in the female lead, or the story, Rockstar missed out on scoring really big at the box office.

  1. The Burning Train (1980)

Burning-TrainThe Burning Train was a multi starrer film with Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Jeetendra, Vinod Khanna, Parveen Babi, Neetu Singh and many others in supporting roles. In spite of a stellar starcast with the Who’s Who of Bollywood, Burning Train couldn’t rake in the expected earnings at the Box Office.

  1. Udaan (2010)

UdaanUdaan was hugely appreciated by critics. Produced by Anurag Kashyap and directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, Udaan earned around 3 crores, which resulted in the tage of an ‘average grosser’. Udaan starred debutant Rajat Barmecha, Ronit Roy and Ram Kapoor.

The story of a boy who is expelled from school and returns to live with his father and step brother, Udaan is an inspirational, heart-touching story that will move you to tears. However, in spite of all the good vibes, and mind-blowing music by Amit Trivedi, Udaan couldn’t work at the box office.

  1. Manorama Six-Feet Under (2007)

Manorama-Six-Feet-underThis thrilled directed by Navdeep Singh, starring Abhay Deol, Gul Panag and Raima Sen, still ranks in every critic’s best films of the previous decade. However, it vanished without a trace when it had originally released, in spite of an average rating of 4/5.

Manorama Six-Feet Under had a unique story, fantastic cast, and terrific editing. In spite of being technically sound, the film tanked, and it was really heartbreaking to see such a gem of a movie failing.

  1. Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year (2009)

Rocket-SinghRanbir Kapoor won the Filmfare Best Actor Award for this film, and yet nobody really went to the hall to watch it. Starring Ranbir Kapoor as a B.Com graduate who has terrific salesman skills, Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year had an ensemble cast that included Gauhar Khan.

However, in spite of the tight script, and absolutely no ‘sell-out’ qualities in the film (like item numbers), the film sank without a trace. Rocket Singh impressed critics so much that it finds mention in a book – 40 retakes-Bollywood classics you may have missed. However, when it was running at the Box Office, it sank without a trace.
