Yesteryear’s Item Queen Jyothi Lakshmi Passes Away In Chennai

If you are unable to recollect her, the famous song le le le lele na raja should remind you of someone and that someone is none other than Jyothi Lakshmi, the first name that comes to everyone’s mind when one asks about ‘item girls’.

Jyothi Lakshmi passed away this morning (9th August) in Chennai. She had been suffering from cancer and finally succumbed to the illness after failing to battle her health in a private hospital in Chennai. In her successful career, she acted in over 300 films in Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada. Her famous movies include  ANR’s Premnagar, NTR’s Sardar Paparayudu, Mahanagaram lo MayagaaduPilla? Piduga?, Gandharva Kanya, Sita Ramulu and few others.

During her peak times in the 1970s and 80s, directors used to queue up to get her dates for an item song in their movie. It was a must to have one Jyothi Lakshmi song in their movie and they has special songs written for this item queen.

Her last rites will be performed on Tuesday at the Kannammapettai cremation grounds, Chennai.
