Little Known Sports Personalities From Telugu Land Who’ve Achieved Great Heights

We all love sports. Most of the sports followed in our country depends on how famous that sportsperson is. Unfortunately most of us never take notice of the sports personalities around us even though they have achieved no less to their counter parts. The only sports personalities from the Telugu states we hear about mostly is Sania Mirza or Saina Nehwal. Since VVS retired, we stopped talking about him anyways. But, fortunately we do boast of some pretty talented players produced by the Telugu land who have achieved great heights.

Here is the list of some sport personalities from Telugu states who achieved a lot in their sport.

1. Yousuf Khan (Football)

Represented India national team at the 1960 Summer Olympics.
He was one of only two Indians to have been included in the 1965 Asian All Stars XI.
He was also a part of the team that won gold at the 1962 Asian Games.
Khan received Arjuna Award in 1966.

2. Mukesh Kumar (Hockey)

He represented our country consecutively in 3 Olympics.
He scored 80 goals in 307 international matches.
He received Arjuna award in 1995 & Padma Shri in 2003

3. A. Ramana Rao ( Volley Ball)

He received both Arjuna & Dronacharya award.
He was the head coach for the Indian men’s volleyball team at the Asian Volleyball Championships at Perth in 1991.
He was also the first Indian volleyball coach to qualify as FIVB Instructor.

4. Javur Jagadeeshappa Shobha (Track and Field)

Winner at Afro-Asian Games in 2003.
Her personal best of 6211 points, achieved in 2004 is a national record.
She received Arjuna award in year 2004

5. Neelapu Rami Reddy ( Track and Field)

He was made athletics chief coach by Southern Central Railways (SCR) and sprints coach of the Indian Railways.
He is national athletic.

6. Pentala Harikrishna (Chess)

Youngest grand master from India.
He was Commonwealth Champion in 2001 and World Junior Champion in 2004.

7. Mir Mohtesham Ali Khan (Body builder)

First body builder from Andhra Pradesh to be selected as the captain of Indian team.
