With actresses playing more of a major role in films nowadays, audiences are lapping up movies with a strong female lead. Having said that, the competition at the top has always been hot and actresses are always looking for good roles to sink their teeth into. We take a look at who the top female leads in the Tamil film industry are and what the future holds for them:
1. Nayanthara:
The undisputed queen of the Tamil industry over the past few years has surely been Nayanthara. From making films with a strong female presence, she has also been the lead in the hit movie, Maya, which was well received from all quarters. Her stock just keeps rising with her slated to act in close to at least six movies in the next two years. With such high demand, it is easy to see why she will continue to rule the roost for at least a few more years.
2. Trisha:
After she captured our hearts as the lead in MounamPesiyadhe, Trisha has gone on to act in many movies opposite some of the biggest stars in the industry, both in Tamil as well as Telugu. Her prime in the industry was during the release of movies such as Lesa Lesa, Ghilli and Aayutha Ezhuthu. She came back in a big way with the movie Vinaithaandi Varuvaaya and has continued to be one of the in-demand actresses even today.
3. Amy Jackson:
An actress who is British by birth and upbringing, Amy Jackson had a stellar debut opposite Arya in the hit movie, Madrasapattinam. Since then, she has continued to defy the odds despite her inability to speak Tamil and has starred in movies opposite big stars such as Vikram, Vijay and Dhanush. Her future looks bright and it won’t be long before she rules this list if she continues in this fashion.
4. Anushka Shetty:
An actress whose path to success came through yoga is Anushka Shetty and throughout her years in the Tamil film industry, she has continued to put in consistent performances. Her best roles have been in the movies Deva Thirumagal, Vaanam and even Baahubali, where it is expected she will have a bigger role in the second movie. Having managed to create a niche for herself in the industry, Anushka looks set to be at the top for a few more years.
5. Hansika Motwani:
Far from the actress who played a bubbly school girl in the TV show, Shakalaka Boom Boom, Hansika Motwani has evolved into an in-demand actress in the south. With her beautiful eyes and lovely smile, she has taken the industry by storm and is looking more confident with each movie she does. With at least 6 movies to release this year, Hansika fans can look forward to more of her alluring presence and charm in 2016!
