Sankranthi Festival To Get Colourful With Kite and Sweet Festival At Parade Grounds From Tomorrow

As the festivities of Sankranthi are approaching, the sky will be full of colours and hearts will be filled with joy. Celebrated with much pomp in Telangana, the seventh edition of the International Kite and Sweet Festival will be held at Secunderabad’s Parade Grounds from January 13 to 15.

Organised by the Telangana Tourism and Culture department, nearly 47 international professional kite flyers from 16 countries are participating in the festival. About 60 members of a kite club from 14 states would also be seen flying kites. Informing about the details of the upcoming festival at a press conference on Saturday, Tourism and Culture Minister Jupally Krishna Rao revealed why this festival is significant for the state.

He informed us that over 300 women from 25-plus states and 10 nations are to take part in the festival and show over 1000 food items at the event, including sweet delicacies from various states and countries and Telangana.

The minister also revealed that entry will be free for all and there will be cultural programs too. Meanwhile, handlooms and handicraft products will also be on display at different stalls, and about 15 lakh visitors are expected to attend this festival.

The press conference was also attended by tourism department director Zendage Hanumant Kondiba, director of culture Mamidi Harikrishna, among other officials. He also added that in the coming days, a similar Kites and Sweet Festival will be held in the rural parts of Telangana. He then called Hyderabad a mini-India, given people from various states and other countries are happily settled in the city. Therefore, the festival plays an important role in promoting diversity, as it brings people from various ethnicities under one roof to celebrate the vibrant festival of Sankranthi.

Further, before revealing the festival’s poster, Mr Jupally Krishna Rao toured the stalls of women representing several states of India and showcased traditional homemade sweets.

Tourism and Culture Department Secretary Smita Sabharwal, who was also present at the conference, stated that the Kite and Sweet Festival is a trailblazing, innovative event that serves as a platform that proudly demonstrates Telangana’s cultural uniqueness in India and, at the same time, globally.
