Everyone remembers Joginder Sharma, the man who bowled that historical final over in 2007 World T20. Captain MS Dhoni in a thriller of a match, had put his faith in a relatively unknown bowler when many wouldn’t have on an occasion as big as a World Cup final. But the man from Haryana rewarded his captain’s trust in him. Misbah-ul-Haq played a stupid scoop shot after hitting a six and was caught by Sreesanth, sending India into delirium, and Pakistan into depression.
But what of his story? Where did he go? What happened to Joginder Sharma? As India gear up for yet another World T20, the first one at their home, one of its former heroes who tasted glory n 2007 has taken up something completely different.
Joginder Sharma became a police officer. Today, he’s busy catching bad guys. Joginder Sharma was featured in the March issue of Sports Illustrated India, and is today a DSP in Haryana Police.
From Cricketer to Commisioner, Joginder Sharma’s story is one worthy of being told in every fantastical story ever.
