Watch: Snacks That You Can Binge Eat During Quarantine Time!

Self-Quarantine can be quite a task. And, there is no doubt about it, that the days are scary and mostly boring. Hence, binge snacking during this time has become common. And, honestly is there a better way than eating to get rid of your boredom?
So, here are some snacking ideas that you must try. Easy to cook, made with regular ingredients, available at home, these foods are perfect to binge eat while you binge watch.
(As, these snacks are deep-fried, we suggest you don’t over eat them. Binge eat but have a control over what you eat. Though, they are better than the snacks we consume from the market, they are not meant to be consumed every day.

1.Onion Rings

Onions are rich in vitamin C, and aid in the detoxing process of the blood and the body. The anti-oxidants present in them, make them great for cardiovascular movements. While they are mostly used for masalas or as taste enhancers, they are great to make Onion rings.

Ingredients:

  • 3 Medium sized Onions
  • 1 cup Maida
  • ¼ cup Corn Flour
  • ¼ tsp Baking Soda
  • ½ cup Bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp Red Chilly Powder
  • Salt (As per taste)
  • 1 tbsp Pepper Powder
  • 1 tbsp Garlic Powder
  • Water

Procedure:

1.Firstly, take 2-3 medium sized onion and slice them, keeping their circular shape intact. Then separate them as rings and keep them aside.

2.Then, take maida, corn flour, red chilly powder, salt, pepper powder, garlic powder and 2 tbsp of bread crumbs. Mix all these ingredients well. Add the onion rings into this mixture and mix them till they are coated well. Once, they are coated, separate the onion rings from the flour. Pour water into the flour mixture and mix it till it forms a thick paste.

3.Now, heat some oil in a pan. Dip the onion rings into the flour mixture and coat it with bread crumbs all over it. Slowly, release it in the oil and fry it till the onion rings turn golden brown on both the sides. Continue this process till all the rings are fried.

4.Serve your Onion Rings hot with Ketchup.

2.Potato Fingers

Potatoes make it really high on our list of favourite vegetables. They help in reducing inflammation and constipation. They are loaded with minerals like iron, calcium and magnesium, promoting bone health. Here’s a fun snack that you can make with Potatoes which people across all the ages will enjoy.

Ingredients:

  • 250 grams Boiled Potatoes
  • Curry Leaves
  • Coriander Leaves
  • 2 sp Corn Flour
  • 2 sp Bombay Rava
  • 2 sp Rice Flour
  • Salt (As per taste)
  • 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 tsp Pepper Powder

Procedure:

Take boiled potatoes and mash them together nicely.

To this, add corn flour, Bombay rava, rice flour, salt, red chilli powder, pepper powder, curry leaves, coriander leaves and mix them well together.

Apply some oil on your hands, and roll this mixture into firm and long finger shaped sticks. Deep-fry them in oil until they turn golden brown on all the sides.

Your Potato Fingers are ready to be served hot.

3.Dondakaya 65

Ivy Gourd or Dondakaya is one of the healthiest vegetables available in the market. With several medicinal values, and studies proving that it is great for diabetic patients, it is extensively being used in our Indian cuisine. But, the problem lies with making kids eat this vegetable. Worry not, as we have this delicious Dondakaya 65 recipe which will make your kids a fan of this vegetable.

Ingredients:

  • ¼ kg Dondakaya
  • ¼ cup Peanuts
  • Dried Red Chillies
  • Green Chillies
  • Garlic Pods
  • Curry Leaves
  • ¼ cup Gram Flour
  • 2 tsp Corn Flour
  • 2 tsp Bengal Gram
  • ¼ tsp Turmeric
  • 2 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • Salt (As per taste)
  • 1 tsp Jeera Powder

Procedure:

First, thinly slice the vegetables. Add gram flour, corn flour, turmeric powder, 1 tsp red chilly powder, salt and jeera powder. Mix it well. Add a few drops of water to make the mixture a little moist.

Take a pan, and deep fry the Ivy Gourd till it turn golden brown on both the sides. Then, in the same pan, fry peanuts and once they are fried, add it to the fried Ivy Gourd.

Now, take another pan and pour some oil to it. Once, the oil is heated, add Bengal gram, dried red chillies, green chillies, garlic pods, curry leaves, salt and 1 tsp red chilly powder.

Add the fried Dondakaya and give it a nice mix.

Your Indian style of Dondakaya 65 is now ready to be served hot.

4.Palak Pakoda

Palak or Palakura or Spinach is a superfood and why not? Great source of iron, aids in weight loss, rich in vitamins like A and C, promotes heart and brain health, these are just a few of the many health benefits that Palak has to offer. But have you ever thought of making a snack with this nutritious green-leafy vegetable? Here’s a recipe of delicious Palak Pakoda which you cannot stop with just one plate.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups Palak
  • ½ cup Onions
  • 2 Green Chillies
  • Curry Leaves
  • Coriander Leaves
  • ¾ cup Gram Flour
  • ¼ cup Rice Flour
  • ¼ tsp Turmeric Powder
  • Salt (As per taste)
  • ½ tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • Ginger
  • 1 tsp Coriander Seeds
  • 1 tsp Ajwain

    ¼ tsp Hing

  • Water

Procedure:

To make a moist mixture with Spinach, take Spinach, gram flour, rice flour, onions, green chillies, curry leaves, coriander leaves, ajwain, coriander seeds, thinly sliced ginger, hing, turmeric powder, salt and red chilly powder. Mix all these ingredients well. Add water to make it a fine and moist mold of mixture.

In a pan, take some oil and heat it. Make small and firm balls of the spinach mixture and gently release it in the oil. Fry them till the Pakodas turn crispy and crunchy.

Serve your Palak Pakodas hot and crunchy.

5.Aloo Cutlet

The options of making snacks become endless when it comes to Potatoes. And, can we help it? We love potatoes and we can never get over them. Aloo Cutlets are our favourite street food and in times like these, when we cannot stroll out to eat our favourite chat, what better time than now to make this dish?

Ingredients:

  • Boiled Potatoes
  • Coriander Leaves
  • 2 tsp Corn Flour
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Red Chilly Powder
  • Salt (As per taste)
  • 1 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 2 tsp Dry Mango Powder

Procedure:

1.Firstly, take boiled potatoes and mash them well. Add turmeric powder, red chilly powder, salt, coriander powder, dry mango powder, coriander leaves and corn flour. Mix all the ingredients together and make it into a fine paste.

2.Now, rub some oil onto your palms and take the potato mould and make them into circular or cylindrical shaped patties.

3.Take a pan, and add some oil. Fry the aloo patties in the oil on both the sides, till they turn golden brown in colour.

4.You can now munch on these delicious Aloo cutlets.

5.Additional Step: If you want to go slightly overboard, (because why not?), add Ragada to the cutlets and garnish it with onions, tomatoes, coriander leaves, tomato sauce and sev. This will transport you right away to your favourite chat bandi’s food.
