Unlike olden days, there is no independent or strong characterizations of the female lead in Tollywood. Besides few films like Baahubali 2, Arundathi and Rudramadevi, there are many films in Telugu Film Industry, where there is no importance for the female leads in movies.

There are few films, where women don’t have any prominance but just roped in for glamour. From Kajal Aggarwal in Temper, Rakul Preet Singh in Pandaga Chesko, Samantha in Dookudu to Tamannaah Bhatia in Agadu, many of the lead heroines are casted in star films mostly like an additional glamour to their scripts. Most of our films are completely hero centric and our audiences look at cinema as entertainment. Film critics opine that crowds come primarily for the heroes and heroines are mostly treated as an addition to the glam factor.

1-Kajal-Aggrawal

There are films like Kshanam, Ok Bangaram, Cheliyaa and Yem Maya Chesave, where the female lead was given equal importance on par with the male leads and these characters are known for strong and independent characterization. If we see Baahubali 2, the female characters like Anushka and Ramya Krishnan critically acclaimed for their fantastic performance and during some scenes that have shaded the roles of lead actors.

2-Mahesh-babu-motherBesides this, in the Telugu film industry, the mother characters have lost their importance and taken back seat. If you observe films like Srimanthudu and Son of Sathyamurthy, in which no much dialogues or importance given to the mother roles. It is very easy to count the senior actresses who given strong characterization as mothers in films. It is sad that it is happening in the star hero films. Well, even after the release of films like Baahubali 2, we have to see whether this scenario will change or not.
