Reheating Rice Can Be Dangerous! Here’s How You Can Reheat Rice Safely!

When we cook food in large batches, there’s often leftover food, this is especially the case with rice, Rice is most commonly eaten the next day or days after, as well. What we fail to realize is that this behavior can have dangerous effects on our health, because uncooked rice contains bacteria called Bacillus Cereus. Heat can destroy the bacteria but it also produces some spores that are toxic and can be dangerous to consume. According to the Food Standards Agency, “Uncooked rice can contain spores of bacteria that can cause food poisoning. When the rice is cooked, the spores can survive; but if the rice is then left standing at room temperature, the spores will multiply and may cause vomiting or diarrhea. Reheating the rice will only make it worse.” So today we will take a look at how you can reheat rice properly, to avoid food poisoning:-

Just by following some general tips while cooking and reheating, you will be able to reheat rice safely and properly

• Always cook the rice in high temperature and serve it immediately once cooked.

Rice• Don’t leave cooked rice sitting out in room temperature for more than an hour. It might lead to the multiplying of spores present in the rice.

• Once the rice cools down and put it in a refrigerator.

• If you reheating rice in a microwave, add a little water to the rice so that the rice absorbs the water when it is being reheated.

• If you are heating on cooking stove, stir fry it by adding water, oil or butter and cook it till dry.


This method ensures that the rice is being heated properly and all the toxic bacteria are killed. Health experts also believe that stored rice becomes dry after some time. So, by adding water while reheating replenishes its lost water content and hydrates the grains back again.
