It is said that the birth of a child changes us, and there is no greater proof than Mark Zuckerberg.
Mark Zuckerberg’s wife, Dr. Priscilla Chan, gave birth to a daughter on Wednesday. Announcing the incident on Facebook, the CEO of Facebook revealed that he has promised his daughter that he and his daughter would donate 99% of their shares to charity.
Mark plans to start an organization called the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, which will focus on ‘personalized learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities’. The total value of the amount promised by Mark Zuckerberg comes to about $45 billion.
This is a trend that has been quite popular in the US, with CEO of Apple Inc, Tim Cook, having earlier announced that he was going to give away all of his fortune to charity, “after paying for his 10-year-old nephew’s college education”.
Other popular CEOs in the business world who have donated their wealth to charity include investor Warren Buffet, and the founder of Microsoft Bill Gates. This is surely something Indian business honchos need to pick up.
