If you’ve ever travelled through Indian Railways and wondered what on earth was going on, here’s some good news for you.

Very soon, the Government might approve private train operators to operate on India’s first bullet-train corridor. The move has been approved by the Cabinet, and according to this report in the Indian Express the Indian government will operate the trains for the first five years, after which it will be handed over to private train operators to manage.

The deadline for India’s bullet train project has been set at 2022, and according to the report, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a special interest to see that the project is on time. The project was undertaken in collaboration with Japan, which is assisting India in a number of projects, including the formation of Amaravati, the new capital for Chandrababu Naidu’s Andhra Pradesh, that is being built for scratch.

The present move is a big sigh of relief for those who doubted the government’s ability to maintain and run the bullet train corridor, especially with the way Indian Railways has been run so far.
