Munakkaya or Drumsticks are considered as superfoods for they have several health benefits. While it has now gained stature as a superfood, it has been used for centuries in the South Indian food. And, now it is steadily making its way to North Indian Cuisine. They are also being used in pickles, sauces and salads.

Here are some noticeable health benefits of Munakkya or Drumsticks.

1.Promotes Digestive System

They are loaded with vitamins like vitamin B, vitamin B12, and niacin known to play an important role in improving your digestive system. It helps in breaking down the foods easily and aids in the digestion process.

Drumsticks are rich in iron and calcium which helps in strengthening the bones. They also prevent loss of bone density. Hence, including drumsticks in your regular diet, enhances your bone health.

3.Boosts Immunity

The anti-bacterial properties in drumsticks, help in curing common cold and cough. It also helps you fight other illnesses like headache or nausea. The vitamin C content in the drumsticks helps you develop a great immunity system and fight off diseases.

Ingredients:

  • 2 whole Drumsticks
  • ½ cup Onions
  • 2 Green Chillies
  • ½ cup Tomatoes
  • ¼ cup Coconut
  • Coriander leaves
  • Cinammon, Cloves, Cardamom
  • ½ tsp Mustard Seeds
  • ½ tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 2 tsp Poppy Seeds
  • 1 tsp Ginger-garlic paste.
  • 2 tsp Oil
  • Turmeric Powder
  • Salt (As per taste)
  • 1 tsp Red Chilli Powder
  • 1 tsp Coriander Powder
  • ½ cup Water

Procedure:

1.In a pan, take some oil, add cinnamon, cloves, cardamom and fry them. Then add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and temper them. Once they are, add onions, green chilles, ginger-garlic paste and fry them well. Also add some turmeric powder and give it a nice mix.

2.Cut two whole drumsticks and add it to the mixture. Add salt and cook it covered for 5 minutes. Then, add tomatoes and cook it covered for 2 minutes.

3.Now, add red chilli powder, coriander powder and mix it well. Add water to this and cook it covered for about 5 minutes.

4.And, while your drumsticks are being cooked, take coconut, poppy seeds in a jar and grind it to a paste. Add it to the curry and simmer cook it for 3 minutes.

5.Finally add coriander leaves to it and serve it hot with rice.
