We say goodbye to the summer heat by welcoming the rains. Monsoon season brings in fresh happiness. There is joy and merry everywhere and truly Monsoon is a season of happiness. While we love the rain, they also bring in several diseases. So here are two simple home remedies to cure the sicknesses that come in with the rain – Common Cold and Cough!

1.Kashayam

A classic Kashayam is made with neem leaves, ginger, and basil leaves. Its main ingredient ginger is loaded with antioxidants. It is known to boost the immunity system. It contains Gingerol – a powerful compound known to have powerful medicinal properties. Its next ingredient Neem leaves are known to be a natural cure for several diseases. They have anti-bacterial properties which help to fight cold and cough. Basil leaves are rich in anti-inflammatory properties and fights any radical activity. Kashayam made with these three ingredients is super powerful and is great to fight common cold or cough.

Ingredients:

  • Water
  • 1 tbsp Grated Ginger
  • 1 tsp Pepper
  • 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 2 Cloves
  • 1 Cinnamon
  • tsp Turmeric Powder
  • Neem Leaves
  • Basil Leaves
  • ¼ tsp Salt
  • 1 tbsp Jaggery

Procedure:

  • Take a vessel or a hollow pan and add water. To this, add grated ginger, pepper, cumin seeds, cloves, cinnamon, turmeric powder, neem leaves and basil leaves. Allow the water to boil for a few minutes.
  • Once the water starts to boil, give it a nice mix. Now, add salt, mix it and cook it covered for 10-12 minutes. Then, add jaggery and mix it till the jaggery is completely dissolved into the water.
  • Finally, use a sieve and transfer the water to a glass.

2.Miryala Kashayam

Mirayala Kashayam is made with pepper pods and jaggery. Pepper is rich in anti-oxidants. It is also loaded with anti-inflammatory properties. It is also rich in vitamin C, which helps to build a strong immunity system. It is frequently used a remedy for treating cold and cough.

Ingredients:

  • Water
  • ½ cup Pepper
  • ¼ cup Salt
  • ¼ cup Jaggery

Procedure:

  • Take a vessel or a hollow pan and add some water. To the water, add ½ cup pepper and salt.
  • Boil it covered for 10-12 minutes and once the water is boiled add jaggery. Mix till the jaggery is completely dissolved into the water.
  • Finally, use a sieve and transfer the water to a glass.
