On Tuesday, the Haryana government decided to rename Gurgaon as Gurugram on public demand.
Why? Well there is a long story to follow.
Bhagavad Gita mentions that Gurgaon was ruled by Pandavas and Kauravas who used to seek teachings from the great archery adept, Guru Dronacharya. It is also believed that his disciples gifted him this village and hence it was named ‘GURUGRAM’ (meaning Guru’s village).
Eventually, the name got distorted and changed to Gurgaon. Also, the name of Mewat district has been demanded to be changed to Nuh by the public and elected representatives. Although these changes have only been approved by chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, the proposal would now be advanced to The Government of India and only then will the names be officially changed.
We really don’t know how long will it take for these names to be changed but Twitteratis definitely did not take long in mocking the decision and expressing their views in the classic sarcastic flair.
