Portal :

portal-logoPortal is a puzzle platform video game developed by Valve Corporation. The game was released as a bundle package named Orange Box for both Microsoft Windows and Xbox360. The game mainly comprises of a series of puzzles that can be solved by teleporting the player’s character and objects by using “the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device”. This device can create inter-spatial portals between two flat planes. The player character Chell is challenged by an artificial intelligence named GLaDOS to complete each puzzle in the Aperture Science Enrichment Center using the portal gun. The player character will receive cakes as a reward for completing all the puzzles. This unique game will not only challenge your intellect through this problem solving method it will also also allow momentum to be retained through portals and the creative use of portals to solve all the tests or puzzles. A standalone version of ‘Portal: Still Alive’ was released in XBox live arcade in 2008. A sequel Portal 2 was released in 2011 with additional game play mechanics and a cooperative multiplayer mode.

Myst :

Myst is an adventure graphic puzzle video game designed by brothers Robyn and Rand Miller. The game was developed by Cyan Inc. and published by Brøderbund. The game was initially released in the Macintosh platform and it was remade for different ports like Play Station, Sega Saturn, 3DO, Microsoft Windows, Atari Jaguar CD, CD-i, Nintendo and OSX etc. In this game the player is a stranger who uses a special book to travel to the island of Myst. The player solves puzzles and reaches to other worlds known as “Ages”. The clues found in each of the Ages helps to reveal the back story of the game’s characters. The end of the game completely depends on how the player steers the game. The Miller brothers initially produced video games for children, however, Myst was targeted for adults. Anybody can play this game. The story is non-linear, the characters are believable and the ethical dilemma makes the game exciting. This game took two years to develop and was a hit. It was Cyan Inc.’s largest project ever!

Monkey Island

Monkey Island is a series of five graphic adventure games. The first four games was published by LucasArts also known as Lucasfilm Games. The fifth part of the series was developed by Telltale games in collaboration with LucasArts. This game is about the adventures of Guybrush Threepwood who tries to become the most dreaded pirate of the Caribbean by foiling the attacks of the evil undead pirate LeChuck and win the heart of governess Elaine Marley. Each game revolves around the Monkey Island and it’s deeply hidden secrets. The ‘player friendly quality” and humour makes this intellectual game class apart. It is not easy to kill the character of Guybrush Threepwood neither place the game in an ‘Unwinnable” state. The music composed by Michael Land is another USP of this game. It has some foot tapping reggae, Caribbean and dub inspired music. The graphics include the fictional islands of the Caribbean with characters wearing costumes that you will see in films and comics.

Europa Universalis

Europa series will give you a chance to feel like an emperor since it gives the player a chance to take control of one of the seven European nations and they have to develop a strategy to expand it’s power with military strength, diplomacy and colonial wealth. The European nations are depicted by different scenarios and it dates back to 1492-1792. The game takes place on a map divided into 1,500 provinces and the game proceeds in real time format. The game became a hit with players who tried to really think to plan the strategy. This game is a great option for those who loves cerebral exercise. This game was developed by Paradox Development Studio and published by Strategy First. Europa Universalis was followed by Europa Universalis II, Europa Universalis III, Europa Universalis: Rome and Europa Universalis IV. Civilization

Civilization is a turn-based strategy 4X video games many of them were produced by Sid Meier. There are traditional Civilization games too. All the series have the same gameplay which revolves on building a civilization right from prehistory up to the near future. The player has to move units on the map on each turn and build new cities built on technology and research. They can initiate negotiations with computer-controlled players to build or improve their cities with new structures. They can even conquer a city or build an interstellar ship. The player can use both their creativity and intelligence to play this game. It will make them really think and also jump on their feet with victory! After the success of this game the series Civilization I,  Age of Empires, Civilization II, Civilization III, Civilization IV, Rise of Nations and Spore were created much to the delight of the video game lovers worldwide.
