The Indian kitchen is an abode to several delicious and spicy dishes. Our cuisine is not restricted and we use many ingredients to make our food rich and flavourful. But there are a few items that we use basically every day. Our food is incomplete without these ingredients. So, give a quick read to find out the 5 must-haves in an Indian kitchen.
Jeera
Which is the one item that we use to start our cooking with? Jeera or Cumin seeds are what we mostly use to start our cooking. If jeera in the first tempering or tadka is not enough, we add jeera powder to the food too. With its medicinal properties, jeera is wholesome and you must have it in your kitchen.
2. Turmeric
Doesn’t matter what cuisine it is, we add a pinch of turmeric to every dish. That is how much we are obsessed with turmeric powder. Home to medicinal properties, turmeric is believed to keep bacteria and infection at bay. Hence, we use turmeric in our food.
3. Chillies
Indians love spicy food and what adds a real kick to the Indian cuisine? Be it the green or red chillies, we use them generously in our everyday food. Also, they are healthier than the ground chilly powders which come with artificial flavours and preservatives.
4. Onions
Onion is again that one ingredient we add to every dish. Its distinct flavours only enhance the taste of the food. Curries and especially non-vegetarian curries do not taste great when there is no onion in them. So, onions are a must in an Indian kitchen.
5. Garam Masala
The aroma and the strong flavours that Indian food has is mostly due to garam masala. Several masalas like cloves, cardamom, cinnamon, are dry roasted and ground to a fine powder. This powder is then added to several dishes, which makes the food tasty.
