For a rejuvenating experience Ananthagiri Hills Vikarabad is the right place! Be it a trip with a family or an adventure with friends this place is a must visit. Ananthagiri Hills? What is so special about them?
Ananthagiri hills are located in dense forest area present at an elevation in Vikarabad. They are at a distance of about 80kms from Hyderabad. Surrounded by greenery it is place one must visit to spend a memorable weekend. These hills are birth place of the famous Musi river. As we get fresh and open air here, hospital for TB patients is also set up here, T.B Sanitorium (Nature Cure Hospital). It’s been over 80 years since it is established.
Best time to visit?
Summers are really hot and humid at this place. So better to avoid it in summer. There will be only a moderate rainfall here, the area looks even greener and fresher after a getting wash from rains. Check the weather reports for rain before visiting in monsoons as the trek might be a problem due to muddy and slippery paths. October to March is the best months to visit as there is no issue with sun and rain ☺
How to reach there?Best way to reach there is by a car or a bike. By road it will take around 2 hours. Sightseeing will be easy if we have a vehicle at our disposal as there is no other means of transport available on the hills like a cab or auto. If own transportation is not available, you can reach there by bus or train. There is no direct bus from Hyderabad, depending on where you stay one should change 2-3 buses to get there. So best alternative is train. There are number of passenger trains available at all times and the journey time is around 1 to 1.5 hrs only.
Where to Stay?Telangana Tourism’s Haritha resort is present there. It is nice and neat. This is the only option of accommodation available there. For those who come for a single day trip, they can have breakfast and lunch here.
What are the places for sightseeing?
Anantha Padmanabha Swamy TempleIt is a very old and famous temple. It is very near to the Haritha resort and we can reach there by walk. There will not be much rush at the temple so your visit will be very calm and peaceful. At the backside of temple, after getting down a flight of steps temple’s koneru is present. If you walk a few more steps ahead, you will be surrounded by thick forest. Without going too far, just have a stroll there listening to the birds chirping and the sound of water from nearby stream.
Bugga Ramalingeswara Swamy TempleVishumoorti darshan followed by a Lord Shiva Darshan! The way to this temple is very scenic and beautiful. You can stop for a while, breathe the fresh air and feast your eyes with the awesomeness of nature!
TrekkingAn enquiry at the Haritha resort’s reception will give you details of the trek. A guide will be provided to take you around the forest. You can opt for a short or long trek. Short trek is fine if you are going with family. It will take around 2 hours. But if you are in full adventure mood and want to spend more time in woods, go for a longer one. You might find peacocks from a far distance and also might spot a wild boar running. If you are observant, you can find peacock feathers lying among the leaves.
Kotepally reservoir or Nagasamudram Lake20kms away from Vikarabad this is place worth visiting. We need to go far from the main road to visit this place, so if you are travelling by car or bike do not miss this place. We can walk along the falling waters and Kayaking facility is also available here. It is good place for a picnic.
If you plan for a 2 day trip, you can visit all these places at your leisure. Start from Hyderabad on Saturday morning after having breakfast. After checking into hotel, have a light walk around the place and relax. After lunch visit the two temples. On second day morning go for a trek. Check out and proceed to Kotepally reservoir. Then travel back to Hyderabad.
