Tamil cinema has never had a shortage of some excellent directors over the years. With more and more opportunities opening up for new directors to helm projects, a few of them have already started off excellently and shown tremendous promise. These directors have piqued the interest of many in the industry and have also gotten frontline actors to work with them. Here are three directors who have got the attention of many in the industry:

Atlee is one of those directors who hit the nail in the head with his first ever movie. Raja Rani took the issue of unhappy marriages and weaved a wonderful story around the two protagonists, Arya as well as Nayanthara. The movie was a super hit and received praise from everyone in and around the industry as well as the audiences.
After Raja Rani, Atlee got the dream opportunity to work with his favourite actor, Vijay – one of the biggest actors in Tamil cinema history. Not bad eh?

Directors who have the talent to make audiences sit up and take notice deserve nothing but praise and accolades. Karthik Subburaj first made the horror/thriller Pizza that was lapped up by audiences both in Tamil Nadu as well as other states. Then, for his second movie, he brilliantly cast Bobby Simha as a Madurai gangster along with Siddharth as the lead in the noir style movie, Jigarthanda.

The movie was a cult hit, both commercially and critically, setting the bar really high for his upcoming movies.

Velraj:

To take the topic of Engineering colleges around the country and to make a story that audiences can connect with requires some special skill. Velraj was one of those directors who, with VIP, was able to garner a lot of attention regarding the condition of Engineering graduates around the country, with Dhanush as the lead. The movie and the music were both superbly received and was one of the biggest hits of the year. He followed it up with Thangamagan that was a commercial hit.

With so much promise on offer, Tamil cinema audiences have a lot to look forward to in the next few years.
