From being asked to become a sweeper to an IPL hero, here’s the story of Rinku Singh
1. Rinku Singh, comes from a lower-middle-class family. His father delivered LPG cylinders while his elder brother drove an autorickshaw.
2. Rinku Singh’s family had a financial debt, and to resolve it, playing for UP under-19 side, he began saving from his daily allowance and even worked as a domestic worker.
3. And Rinku Singh was offered the job of becoming a Sweeper.
4. Rinku Singh represented Uttar Pradesh at the Under-16, Under-19 and Under-23 levels and Central Zone at the Under-19 level.
5. Rinku Singh was the leading run-scorer for Uttar Pradesh in the group stage of the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy, with 803 runs in nine matches. He finished the tournament with 953 runs in ten matches.
6. In the 2017 IPL auction, he was bought by the Kings XI Punjab team. And in the 2018 IPL auction, he was bought with a worth of Rs. 80 lakhs by the Kolkata Knight Riders. He was ruled out of the 2021 Indian Premier League due to a knee injury.
7. KKR decided to buy him back for Rs. 55 lakhs in the 2022 mega auction.
8. In the IPL (2022), he got his first Man of the Match award for scoring 42 runs in 23 balls with a strike rate of 182.61 against Rajasthan Royals.
9. After playing one of the greatest innings in IPL history against Gujarat Titans, Rinku said ‘My father struggled a lot, I come from a farmer’s family. Every ball that I hit out of the ground was dedicated to the people who sacrificed so much for me.’
