Women’s Day is a celebration that happens worldwide to recognise the achievements and victories made by a lot of women. People all over the world share their views on social platforms, media and various modes, the importance of women. We bow down to every single lady in the world who has taken a step above and proved their mettle.
This started back in the 1990’s and is observed on the 8th of March every year. There isn’t a concrete date as to when it started, but is traced to 1908, when 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding voting rights, better pay and shorter working hours. A year later, later, the first National Women’s Day was observed in the US on February 28, in accordance with a declaration by the Socialist Party of America.
Later in 1990, Clara Zetkin, the leader of Women’s Office for the Social Democratic Party in Germany proposed the idea of celebrating women on a day every year. This led a huge conference that gathered nearly 100 women from various countries and they supported the idea of celebrating the International Women’s Day. In 1911, it was celebrated for the first time in Austria, Denmark, Germany and Switzerland on March 19.
In 1913, it was decided to transfer IWD to March 8, and it has been celebrated on that day ever since. The main motto of having this day is to recognise and promote equality of both the genders; the world has still not achieved it.
Let us hope that this year be a healthy and a successful year for both men and women throughout the world.
Happy women’s day to all the wonderful women out there.
