However, the Shimla Administration is taking a firm stance against street food as a jaundice scare seems to have taken over the city. Jaundice is generally spread through water and air, and street food is known to be the most common carrier of jaundice. The authorities have issued warnings to the general public about consuming street food that lies exposed to the dirt and dust on streets.
Shimla is home to a range of street food, and this is not the first time that the city is taking up action against street food. A few months back, Shimla launched a campaign against plastic packaging of street food, as the tourist city was witness to rising pollution due to the plastic wrapping.
Shimla is famous for its street food, which includes healthy fruit cut and served with tangy chutneys. There are also legendary stories about how Lord Mountbatten was so impressed by a tea stall in Shimla in the year 1931, that he got a permanent stall built and gave it as a gift to the family.
Shimla remains one of the most popular tourist spots in the country, with millions of tourists swarming to the hill city to enjoy a respite for the heat and hustle bustle of the city.
