While the world was caught up with the Paris attacks, a tragedy has struck our own shores, in the form of Chennai rains.
Schools and colleges have been shut down, and intra-city train services have been suspended as well. Met officials have been warning of a depression caused by low pressure stemming from the south east Bay of Bengal.
While the threat of a depression has now passed, Chennai is still grappling with the reality of the death toll, which has risen to 60 now.

It is sad that the entire issue got sidestepped due to the Paris Attacks. The Met department has declared the threat of depression to have passed, but the preparedness of a metro city like Chennai lies in doubt after the intense rainfall.
