1. Late In 1990’s, the Eega movie idea for Eega originated from screenwriter K. V. In Vijayendra Prasad’s mind, he was joking about a housefly seeking revenge on a human in a conversation with his son S. S. Rajamouli.

2. Eega VFX was done by Makuta, the Hyderabad based animation company who delivered 80% computer graphics and only 20% of the graphics work was outsourced and the rest was done by the in-house experts.

3. Rajamouli initially planned to bring Hollywood cinematographer Jamie Fowlds,who is known for movies like Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991), Hackers (1995) and Waking Ned Devine (1998) but was later replaced by KK Senthil Kumar.

4. Eega is the first Bilingual movie of Rajamouli, each scene of Eega including speech was filmed twice in Telugu and Tamil, and later dubbed into Malayalam titled as ‘Eecha’ and dubbed into Hindi as ‘Makkhi’.

5. To overcome VFX shots of Fly, S.S. Rajamouli made Nani cover his head completely in cloth and asked him to perform various emotions just through body language. Since the head of a housefly is made up almost entirely of eyes and very little muscle, conveying emotion as the fly was extremely difficult. This data was given to the animation team who then created all the movements and body language for the fly.

6. Rajamouli made cosmetic changes to the fly’s face to make it look appealing on screen. With the support of Makuta CEO Pete Draper, 3 concept artists, 4 modellers, two shader designers, two hair and fur designers, three riggers and several animators, Rajamouli designed the animated fly in 2 months. Fly’s head and fur were designed after shaping its body and wings.

7. Eega was screened to critical acclaim at L’Étrange Film Festival. The film has garnered the Best Feature Film in Telugu and the Best Special Effects at the 60th National Film Awards, and also garnered awards for the Most Original Film, Best Special Effects, Best Comedy, Best Fights, Best Film to watch with a crowd, Best Editing, Best Villain and Best Hero (Fly) in the 8th Annual Edition Toronto After Dark Film Festival.

8. Eega is the only Telugu film considered to be sent out as India’s entry to the Oscar Academy Awards in the best foreign language film category for the year 2012 but lost to Barfi.

I can only say a BIG BIG BIG thanks to the Legendary Director KV Reddy garu, The Great Producers B. Nagi Reddy and Aluri Chakrapani garu, Technicians, Actors and the Team who made this Epic called ‘Mayabazar’ which stands as the Greatest Cinema Ever in Indian Cinema History.

I went into trance during the research of this article, how can these guys pull off a film like this in 1957.. It’s almost impossible, but Mayabazar did it. Mayabazar paved the way for all the mega blockbusters in the future. Mayabazar is where Telugu Cinema peaked.

1. Mayabazar was the Costliest Movie of the Era. The film was made with an estimated budget of Rs. 2,00,000 back in 1957.

2. The first movie in India Cinema to be made in more than one language. It was made simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil. The final film length of this movie was more 5 hours and then it was cut short to 3h 12m

3. The first title of the movie was “Veera Ghatotkacha ” keeping S.V.Rangarao’s stardom in mind. But the legendary actor insisted that the title should focus on the story rather than him. And “Surekhaapaharanam” was the movie working title.

4. Even though this is a story of Pandavas and Kauravas, the Pandavas are never shown but are only heard of in the film.

5. Mayabazar was the first movie where NTR played the role of Lord Krishna. NTR was at first skeptical about playing this role, instead he insisted on playing Karna. But the director convinced him to play Krishna and the rest is history.

6. Mayabazar is a part of the tenth standard English syllabus from 2014. And Mayabazar was the first movie that used VIDEO CALLING before video calling is a thing. In a way, Mayabazar predicted the future of technology.

Marcus Bartley, the cinematographer for this movie had shot the evergreen song “Lahiri, lahiri lahiri lo” at Ennore lake near Madras at noon and he created the illusion of moonlight on a sunny day with tricky camera angles. MY REVIEW of Arjun Reddy – RGV

The fundamental difference between SHIVA and ARJUN REDDY is that whereas Shiva probably could have been more structurally designed in terms of shot taking, shot division and characterizations, AR is much more identifiable and relatable in every sense. Personally I could identify with seven or eight scenes from AR which happened in my own life and that’s the connectivity I am talking about.

The highly unconventional casting is just one of the many breakthroughs the film has managed to overcome ..Me being too long used to a stereotype way of thinking, when I first saw Shalini in her introduction scene, I was aghast that anyone can think of her as heroine material but by the time the film reached interval I felt there could be no one ever who could be better than her.

I was also impressed with the ability of Sandeep Reddy Vanga to evoke so much heroism without any heroics in any scene ..its commendable on both the directors and actors part that they could so resist the temptation to crossover into widely believed and universally accepted commercial clichés.

There’s no attempt in the story to be judgmental on the characters and that can only come from the director’s highly matured understanding of real people in real life situations ..A case in point is the director treating with respect even that guy who gets beaten up by Vijay in the classroom.

Nowhere does it seem as if Sandeep took a decision to sit and write a great scene as often is the case with most mainstream writers and directors ..It feels as if the scenes were just organically flowing by themselves and Sandeep just happened to be there to capture it.

Also though the story is so simple the cuts in the screenplay take it to another level ..one cut I especially liked is the way the previous scene cuts into a glass shard being taken out of Shalini’s foot.

I always believed that, if the slow motion camera and ramping techniques were not invented most of the present day heroes would have to sit at home because none of them have the ability to hold a close up in front of the camera.

Without the aid of both Cinematic techniques and artificially written punch dialogues I can’t recall a single actor creating any kind of impression compared to what Vijay has done in AR..I especially love the lengthy profile close up of Vijay towards the interval with that single tear drop slowly flowing on his cheek.. it’s one of the most evocative Cinematic images I have ever seen in my life.

All in all I strongly believe that all of us in the whole film industry should thank Sandeep and Vijay for making all of us realize that a highly impactful film can be made, “With such a low budget – Without lip sync songs – Without gravity defying action – With 3 hour above length – Without punch dialogues – Without any top technicians and above all with an absolute 100% complete honesty in storytelling.”

The audience should thank Vijay and Sandeep for making them realize that such high quality films like AR can be actually made and they don’t need to settle for sub standard cliched and disgustingly formulaic films.

All aspiring filmmakers should thank Sandeep for giving them a new direction to their directorial aspirations.
