ఇక ఆయన బాల్యంలోకి వెళ్లే సమయం వచ్చేసింది. ఇది మా సొంత ఇల్లు, మా తాతయ్య కట్టించాడు, తాత ఒక మిలిటరీ ఆఫీసర్. మా నాన్న ఎంత దుర్మార్గడు అంటే మా తాత చనిపోయినప్పుడు తల కొరివి పెట్టడానికి కూడా వెళ్ళలేదు. అసలు దేనికి న్యాయం చేశాడు ఈయన. కొడుకు గా fail, భర్తగా fail, తండ్రిగా fail. పెళ్లి అయిన వెంటనే మా తాతని ఆ సొంత ఇల్లుని వదిలేసి అద్దె ఇంట్లో వచ్చి బతుకుతున్నడు. మా తాతని అలాగే ఆయన కట్టించిన ఇంటిని దగ్గరగా చూద్దాం అని గుమ్మం లోపు అడుగు పెట్టబోయను, గట్టిగా ఏదో శబ్దం, ఏంటా అని చూసాను, నాన్న చెంప పగిలిపోయింది, నాకు ఒక్కసారిగా కోపం వచ్చింది నాన్న చెంపని చూడగానే, మా నాన్నని కొట్టినవాడు ఎవడో చచ్చాడు నా చేతుల్లో. మా నాన్న నా? అయిన నాకెందుకు కోపం వస్తుంది? మా నాన్నని కొడుతుంది వాళ్ళ నాన్నే అదే మా తాత, ఆయన అలా కొడుతున్నాడు ఏంటి, మెడని విరిచేస్తున్నాడు, గుండెల మీద ఎగిరి ఎగిరి తంతున్నాడు, ఇష్టమొచ్చినట్టు విసిరియెస్తున్నాడు. అయ్యో! నాన్న చచ్చిపోతాడు, నాన్న చచ్చిపోతాడు ఇలా అయితే. నాన్నని కాపాడాలి, నా కొడకా అంటూ మా తాతని బలంగా కొట్టాను , ఆయనికి ఏమి కాలేదు, మళ్ళీ నా బలం అంత ఉపోయోగించి మా తాతని కొడుతున్న కానీ ఆయనికి ఏమి కావట్లేదు…ఇది గతం కదా! నేనేమి మార్చలేను, కానీ నాకు అవేమి గుర్తురావట్లేదు మా నాన్నని కాపాడాలి అంతే లేకుంటే చనిపోతాడు. ఇంతలో ఒక ఆవిడ వచ్చింది బహుశా నాన్నమ్మ ఏమో! నాన్నమ్మ ని చూడగానే తాత ఆమెపై విరుచుకుపడ్డాడు. ఇప్పటిదాకా దెబ్బలు తింటున్న నాన్న, నాన్నమ్మ మీదకి తాత వెళ్ళగానే, గట్టిగా తాతని ఒక తోపు తోసాడు. నాన్నమ్మని లాక్కెలి గదిలో పెట్టేసాడు నాన్న. ఇక తాత బెల్ట్ తీసి నాన్నని కొడుతున్నాడు, నాన్న వంటి నిండా ఎర్రటి వాతలు… అయ్యో ఇవి ఇలా వచ్చాయా, నేను ఇప్పటిదాకా ఆ వాతలు ఎక్కడో తాగిపడిపోతే యే పోలీసులో కొట్టారు అనుకున్న. నేను ఇక్కడనుంచి పారిపోవాలి, నాన్నని ఇలా చూడడం నా వల్ల కావట్లేదు, అక్కడ నుంచి వెళ్లిపోయే ముందు ఒక్క సారి నాన్నని తిరిగి చూసా, బెల్టు దెబ్బలు పడుతూనే ఉన్నాయి…కానీ నాన్న మొహంలో జీవం లేదు, ఆ కళ్ళు ఏదో వెతుకున్నాయి…ఏమి వెతుకుతున్నాడు?…ఇదంతా జరిగినప్పుడు నాన్న వయసు 10 ఏళ్లు.
నాన్న అద్భుతంగా ఆడాడు, కానీ select కాలేదు…selection panel already 11 players ని ముందేగానే select చేసుకుంది…నాన్న మొహంలో మొదటిసారి కోపం, కానీ ఎవరిని ఏమి అనగలం మూసుకొని బయటకి రావాల్సిందే. ఇది సినిమా కాదు, వెళ్లి selection panel వాడి ముక్కు పగలు కొట్టడానికి. ఇంకా క్రికెట్ జరిగే పని కాదు అని నీరసంగా ఇంటికి వస్తున్నాడు, నాన్నకి ఇలా ఎప్పుడు అనిపించినా…నాన్నమ్మ ఇంకా ఆయన ప్రియురాలు ఆయనికి మాటలు చెప్పి నమ్మకం ఇచ్చే వాళ్లు ఏమో! నాన్న జీవితంలో నమ్మింది కాస్త దగ్గరగా ఉండింది ఈ ఇద్దరితోనే లా ఉంది. నాన్న తిరిగొచ్చేసారికి, నాన్నమ్మ చనిపోయింది. తాతయ్య చంపేసి పారిపోయాడు అంటా. నాన్న ఇప్పుడు కూడా ఎడవట్లేదు, అలా ఏదో వెతుకున్నాడు…ఏమి వెతుకున్నాడు? ఇంతలోనే ప్రకాష్ అంకుల్ వచ్చాడు, నాన్న చెవిలో ఏదో చెప్పాడు…ఏమి చెప్పాడు? నాన్న ప్రేమించిన ఆమెకి పెళ్లి అంటా… వాళ్ళ ఇంట్లో వాళ్లు వెంటనే ఇల్లు కాళీ చేసి ఏటో వెళ్లిపోయారు అంటా! ఆమె ఆచూకీ ఎవరికి తెలీదు అంటా… ఒక్క రోజులో నాన్న కన్న కళ, కనిపెంచిన తల్లి, కలిసి బతకాలి అనుకున్న అమ్మాయి అందరూ ఒక్కసారిగా దూరం అయిపోయారు. ఇప్పటికి ఆయన ఏమి ఎడవట్లేదు, మళ్ళీ ఏదో వెతుకున్నాడు…ఏమి వెతుకున్నాడు? ఇప్పటికి అదే చూపు…ఇప్పటికి వెతుకుతూనే ఉన్నాడు…

ఇక పురాణానికి వస్తే, దక్షప్రజాపతి కి అందమైన ఇరవై ఏడుగురు నక్షత్ర కన్యలు కుమార్తెలు. ఈ ఇరవై ఏడుగురు నక్షత్ర కన్యలని దక్షప్రజాపతి చంద్రునికి లేచి వివిహం చేస్తాడు. అయితే చంద్రుడు వారందరితోను అనురాగంగా ఉండేవాడు కానీ కొంచెం ఎక్కువ ఇష్టాన్ని రోహిణిపైన చూపించేవాడు. ఇది చూసిన మిగతావారు చాలా అసూయా చెందేవారు. ఇలా కొన్ని రోజులు చూసిన వారు పుట్టినిల్లుకు వెళ్లి కంట తడి బెడుతూ ఈ విషయాన్ని దక్షప్రజాపతి కి వివరిస్తారు.
ఆ సమయంలో వారి పైన జాలిపడిన దక్షప్రజాపతి చంద్రుణ్ణి పిలిపించి అందరిని సమంగా చూసుకోవాలి అంటూ హెచ్చరిస్తాడు. కానీ చంద్రుడు తిరిగి మరల అదే విధంగా చేస్తుండడంతో ఆగ్రహానికి గురైన దక్షప్రజాపతి ల్లుడని కూడా ఆలోచించక, చంద్రుడికి క్ష్యయవ్యాధి కలగాలని శపిస్తాడు. ఆ కారణంగా చంద్రుడు నానాటికీ క్షీణించిపోసాగాడు. అతని నుండి వెన్నెల వర్షించటం ఆగిపోయింది. లతలు, వృక్షాలు వాడిపోయాయి. రాత్రులు గాఢాంధకారంతో నిండి, భయంకరంగా మారాయి. ఆ చీకటిలో రాత్రించరులైన రాక్షసులు విచ్చలవిడిగా సంచరించటం ప్రారంభించారు. లోకాలకు ఉల్లాసం కలిగించే చంద్రుడు అలా నానాటికీ కృశించిపోవటం చూసి ఇంద్రాది దేవతలు, వశిష్ఠాది మహర్షులు దుఃఖించి, చంద్రుణ్ని పిలుచుకొని బ్రహ్మ వద్దకు వెళ్లి, చంద్రుడికి రోగ విముక్తి కలిగించమని ప్రార్థించారు. బ్రహ్మ చంద్రుడితో, నువ్వు ప్రభాస క్షేత్రానికి వెళ్లి మృత్యుంజయుడైన పరమ శివుణ్ని గూర్చి తపస్సు చెయ్యి. దానివల్ల నీ క్షయవ్యాధి పోయి విశ్వశాంతి ఏర్పడగలదు అన్నాడు.
చంద్రుడు బ్రహ్మ చెప్పిన విధంగా ఆరు మాసాలపాటు తపస్సు చేశాక, ఈశ్వరుడు భవానీ సమేతంగా ప్రత్యక్షమై, దక్షశాపం వల్ల కృశించిపోతున్నానని విచారపడకు. నీకు కృష్ణ పక్షంలో ప్రతిరోజూ ఒక్కొక్క కళ క్షీణిస్తుంది. ఈ విధంగా నువ్వు నెలకొకసారి పూర్ణ చంద్రుడివై ప్రకాశిస్తావు అని వరమిచ్చాడు. ఇలా ఈశ్వరుడి అనుగ్రహం వల్ల చంద్రుడికి పదహారు కళలు లభించాయి. ఈవిధంగా శాపానికి గురైన చంద్రుడు పరమ శివుడి అనుగ్రహంతో శాపవిమోచనం పొందాడు.
