“Trying To See The Soul” – An Interview With Aditya Mendiratta, A Photographer Par Excellence!

0

“Photography takes an instant out of time, altering life by holding it still” goes a quote about photography which resounds the ethos involved in this brilliant art of photography. There aren’t many photographs in this world, which seek to impress you and yet have no story in their soul. So to say, every photograph has a voice which is loud and clear through ages and time. These were my thoughts when I stumbled upon the Facebook page of this particularly prolific photographer, Aditya Mendiratta. That’s when I started scrolling through his intricately composed and utterly gorgeous line of works. After almost an year or a two of frequenting his works, I finally had the opportunity to have a conversation with him, in my attempt to understand what did felt like, to create something spectacular, day in and day out.

2

Hello Aditya! Big Fan here, so we’ll start at the very beginning. What does Aditya stand for? And where does your story start?

Aditya means sunlight although I am not a hardcore fan of natural light. When it comes to Photography I prefer to use artificial light. Photography played a major rule during my childhood. My dad loved photographing and capturing moments. I used to play and shoot with his Kodak 620 brownie. Looking at my love for photography my grand father gifted me a Premier film camera. Throughout my childhood I used that camera but on the way to adulthood I forgot about my love for photography. It wasn’t until 2009 when i was working as a programmer for Accenture that I realised my lost love for photography. It was one weekend where I found myself buying a DSLR because i was bored with my job. That’s where it all started.

10

Started pretty early then, thankfully! Now so where did your ‘first click’ happen? What made you probably decide that Photography was something that most appealed to you ?

The first click happened in the same month in Chennai, India, where I bought the camera. Even though my camera was on auto mode, something about that image made an impact on me. It was one of the first things I had created (even partially). Following this I started shooting concerts and night-life in Bangalore. My role was not to capture group shots for a newspaper next day, but to capture the life of the party, which would then be used to promote the music festivals, gigs. It was then when I realised the value of an expression. I was still extremely far away from making it my full time job. It became a gradual process of experimenting with different genre’s of photography and it eventually grew on me.

9

Bangalore has the best night life, yes! Now, then, many at times we notice some recurring themes or voices in photographs? Do you look for any such inclusions?

Not necessarily. I remember back then I used to spend time in creating single images. Not everything had to have a story or a theme. Sometimes I would love to shoot a certain situation (or of an individual) which was never pre planned. Often I would also work on creating single images rather than a 4-5 image photo story. I feel today photographers over-pressurise themselves to create a multiple story output or to always follow a theme.
There is a type of photographer who would prefer every inch of the frame planned while the others who’d shoot unplanned. Both work in different situations.

6

I’m always interested in creative people having muses per say, would you say that you have such particularity?

For my commercial shoots, while creating the brief and outlook of the shoot I have to imagine the face I’d like to represent the brand. Looking for that face can sometimes take weeks and rarely months too. When it is my own personal shoots I go very abstract. I look at a person and I feel that there is a certain emotion associated with each individual and if i shoot them I strive to bring that emotion out in my photograph. Every photograph is a mere representation of what the subject looks like in a photographer’s mind.

1

You are getting much deserved attention at this point of time, but was it somehow hard back in the day when you were just starting? Easy? Difficult? Is social media a fair enough platform to start off with?

Easy or Difficult is just a representation of how an individual deals with the situation. At any given situation I look at the challenges I need to face and how to pass those challenges. Competition in any business is the same. To be able to succeed, you need to constantly bring in innovation, new ideas to the market and adapt to the most recent trend in your own style.

Social media is a important tool but it is not the only tool. It’s just an extension of your identity but what you are in the real world is what matters the most. Networking, meeting people and building relationships is one of the most important things today. Most people forget that on the internet (social media, or website) the average time span of a visitor is barely 5-10 seconds, while word of mouth marketing is a spot-on reference.

3

Now I know every photograph takes up a part of your soul and personality, but is there a specific photograph that made you emotionally spent or took in a huge amount of effort to produce?

I try not to be too emotionally connected to my image. If I do then I may not try to improve myself in future. The one image that took me the most effort was a portrait I create of Leher Sethi. This portrait took me endless hours of planing, 4-5 hours of shooting and then 4-5+ hours on editing. It was a composition of 12 images in total. ( Below )

8

Oh, that was a pretty incredible photo-shoot. So, when you want to go for a photo-shoot, what are the first five things that you want to decide upon?

Location: Location is the first thing that needs to be locked post the brief is decided. A good amount of time is spent at the decided location or looking for location to finalise the shots. Not even once have i reached a location with no idea on where i am shooting. Every area is decided and planned (shots of decided spot/location are taken to keep things in handy later on). This helps in deciding the next step
Shot check-list: It’s my most important list that marks the shots (still or video) I need to get based on the brief to achieve the output decided during the creative. I keep this in writing so during the shoot you do not miss out on either one of the shots. Multiple copies of this are made and handed over to the team. Apart from this check-list, experimental shots are an add-on.

Reference shots (if any): Often reference shots may not be needed but I find them handy sometimes in order to show the subject the direction we may be going it. It helps me visually give them an idea on the kind of body language we might be needing.

Music (this is the 6th or the extra thing that falls at this step if I am shooting a video): Different directors / film makers have their own way of making a film. I prefer to have an idea of the music that i might be using for the final film. I may not necessarily use that one but based on the brief decided for the output, it helps me achieve a certain direction while shooting it. Being a musician, a lot of things in my life are influenced by the
music I listen too and so is my photography. Music also is important for my still photo-shoots. I choose specific kinds of music to get the mood going.

Team: Based on the type of shoot i assign the team required for any shoot. My team consists of many people. At shoots i have had a team of 2 assistants and at some shoots i have had a team of 5+ assistants and the extras (make up artist, models, production manager etc.). It’s very important to understand the talent of people before bringing them onboard.

Gear & Backup Gear: The kind of gear i may need varies shoot to shoot. Basic gear is always around but I may need extra equipment, extra cameras or lenses. I have had shoots from one camera set-up to upto 5 camera setups. The output plays a big role in deciding the gear. For everything that we take, there is a back up as well. Incase of any tripod , lens or camera failures there is always another one available at the shoot. Back up gear is the most important and the highest priority one should have. I personally know of people with horrifying stories of the whole shoot falling apart because of gear failure.

7

We’ve got so many places in India, which have high photographic value. But are there any that you are a bit partial towards?

Spiti Valley
Leh / Ladakh
Kashmir
Dalhousie
Kerala

Let’s talk Gear then shall we? What is your photography gear composed of Aditya, If I may? And also another thing, for someone who comes from limited resources, what would be a great equipment composition be like?

I use very high end gear at this stage. I would not prefer to get into different kinds of cameras or brands at this time since that topic is very large and subjective. I grew up using Large format cameras and when I started out in 2009 I used the most basic camera for 3 years. I professionally shot concerts but at that time, because of unavailability of high end cameras at a affordable price I did not have much of an option but to get it right in this. It helped me work the most out of my camera. Even today with the most high end gear, I can not stop believing that the basic cameras can not do much. Off course the gear requirements can vary from shoot to shoot. You might be shooting something super fast, you might be printing a building size hoarding etc. Study different types of cameras, why certain type of photographers use certain cameras and why you would need them is pretty subjective again. Understanding the difference between need and want is very crucial for gear since on a single piece you might be investing a hell lot of money.

I often see senior photographers discouraging emerging photographers on the camera gear. Although everyone’s approach is different, I rather believe in educating the emerging photographers on different types of cameras and their usage. To rather help them understand the difference between need and want. I also agree to the idea that sometimes professional gear can boost your confidence a little. Every individual has their own way of dealing with confidence. I would admit that moving to full format cameras back in 2011 helped me gain more confidence. It helped me work more with lesser excuses. I could no longer blame it on my gear and i had to outperform myself. It worked for me.

5

Lastly…Any word of advice from your side to the thousands of budding photographers out there, hoping to possibly to make it big in this preferred arena?

Be Persistent. Spend a lot of time on experimenting with genres of photography. If you have found your love for a certain type of photography then experiment in that, but make sure you try other genre’s too. I learnt a lot of things from trying out different kinds of photography in my early days. I would often use rules from one genre and apply them in another.

Apart from your professional work, it is very very important to spend time on creating personal work. Your personal work plays a major role for the client’s decision to hire you. One of the biggest advantages of doing personal work is that you can afford to make mistakes. Because you do not have a client involved, you have the freedom to experiment and go wrong. This helps you in dealing with different business statistics assignment help Services

Like any other human I’ve made a lot of mistakes too. Often I tried things and failed miserably at times. A lot of times that’s pretty discouraging. Accepting the mistakes and facing them wouldn’t be very easy.
I realised however that the only thing that kept me going was the persistence to learn from the mistakes and move on.

10 Cricketers Who Defied Poverty To Reach Top Of The Game

By Lalith Vamsee

The neo-cricket era looks at cricketers through a different perspective. Cricketers have become celebrities who are seen as glamour kings, who bedeck fashion rags, date models and fix matches. Cricketers are often associated with money and are misconstrued to be avaricious. But, among all the incredibly rich and impressively famous cricketers, there are stories of some inspiring and enthralling lives of men who ascended from the debris of lopsided urbanization and unfair disasters.

These are stories that have a tinge of novelty, a trace of poetic justice, and a scintilla of cinematic episodes. The slides contain tales of Slumdog Millionaires, tsunami boys, hamlet heroes and a toilet cleaner. iPhone@68…..A Punjabi Guy Actually Bought It At That Price.!!

0
Iphone

On February 12, Nikhil ordered an iPhone from Snapdeal which was priced at Rs 68. After placing the order, he kept on waiting for the iPhone to be delivered.

When Nikhil Bansal from Pujab, spotted an iPhone 5S ( 16 GB ) being offered on the E-commerce website with an unbelievable 99.7% discount, he didn’t waste a moment before he placed an order for the product.

But before the order could be delivered, it got cancelled by the website. Nikhil chose to proceed further rather than remain silent. He then approached the consumer court in Sangrur district of Punjab, where Snapdeal was ordered to ‘honor the deal’. The court in verdict, not only ordered Snapdeal to deliver the product at the peanut price, but also made the company pay a ₹2000 penalty.

If he isn’t the luckiest guy this week…I don’t know who is.

‘HaasyaKireeti’ Rajendra Prasad : A Priceless Asset Of Telugu Cinema !

0
Rajendra Prasad

When pulled off with panache, cracking a joke is an act of elegance. It is the easiest way to connect with the audience, and you can win them over in a matter of minutes. However, since the issue of humour is so subjective, you never know how a joke is going to come out on screen. For, it might be the greatest joke on paper, but you need an efficient actor to pull it off successfully. And one such shining example through the ages is Rajendra Prasad

In the annals of Telugu cinema, Rajendra Prasad will go down as one of the pillars of Telugu comedy. Keeping us entertained for more than three decades with his wildly varied acts, Rajendra Prasad began his innings in the entertainment industry right from the birth.

Rajendra Prasad

Rajendra Prasad was born in the same house as that of Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao ( NTR ) , and began his career with the visionary director Bapu. Initially starting off with small roles, and an odd full-length role, Rajendra Prasad was trudged along in his career.

It was Vamsy’s Ladies Tailor that shot Rajendra Prasad to instant fame, slowly but surely propelling him into super stardom. A few years later, Jandhyala’s iconic movie Aha Naa Pellanta  released, which made him an iconic star, forever etching his memory in the audience’s mind.

Rajendra Prasad

His comic timing and mannerisms, ( that peculiar shrugging off shoulder) – became something very unique and singular. While his counterparts chose to provide “much needed” dance routines, run of a mill dramatic stories and very fictionalised romances to the audience, Rajendra Prasad knew what he was biggest strengths were, and continued to provide healthy laughter to Telugu audience. The biggest advantage was that he had a ‘repeat audience’, one that would come again and again to watch his films.

Rajendra Prasad’s choice of films were a genre by themselves. His films never dealt with larger than life themes. The issues in his films were about everyday, common man issues. Whether it was the village tailor who gets trapped between three women, or the man who has to earn 1 lakh to impress the father of the heroine, Rajendra Prasad painted a picture of the Indian rural-side that the audience wasn’t very familiar before him.

Rajendra Prasad

He had a very successful actor-director collaborations with almost all the legendary comic directors – Jandhyala, Vamsi, EVV, SV Krishna Reddy, and Relangi Narasimha Rao. His situational comedies were instant hit with the audience not only because they were funny, but also as an Appula Appa Rao or Pekata Papa Rao, they were identifiable. As he grew older, he got even wittier in choosing his work. Aa Naluguru being a classic example. He then proved to the audience that Rajendra Prasad, the actor, was much more than what anyone could’ve anticipated of him.

Rajendra Prasad

He has now been continuing his career in acting and also his work as the recently elected MAA President, ( being the first president to be so elected through organised elections ). His transparency and zeal to strive harder for the wellness of the film society is a nice gesture to see from the Rajendra Prasad who has been an actor who has always been exceptional in every role he took up.

Rajendra Prasad

This one liner from back in the day, perfectly sums up the phenomenon that Rajendra Prasad was –  If a Telugu person ever planned to go and live abroad, he would take with him, only two things – A Jar of Mango Pickle, and a Collection of Rajendra Prasad Movies!!

Stylists Who Make Our Bollywood Celebrities Gorgeous

0

By Chetna Kaushik

Stylists ? Are they required. Of course they are. Hairstyle. Clothes. Shoes. Tie. Nails. Earrings. And shades. All of these things matter the most when you are someone who is always under the eye of media, stylists and people who look up to you.
What you wear is what makes you stand out in a crowd. And what you wear is what shows other people your personality and your moods. When you are a celebrity, what you wear becomes a part of who you are. In an award show, in a meeting, in a party, on a stage or on a street. You have to be at your best. And for that you need help sometimes, or most of the times. Someone once told me that, “wear what others think is good for you, eat what you think is good for you.”
So here are some people who help our favourite celebrities, look their best, every single time we see them.

Bollywood :

Naresh Rohira – Shahrukh Khan

Talk of magnanimity.

DeadPool Meets Wolverine…And The Interview Is Hilarious!

0

“Do you do all your own acting?” Reynolds quipped. And that’s how DeadPool Meets Wolverine. Pretty dope way to do that.
“If there’s bold scenes, I do them,” Jackman replied matter-of-factly. “[That’s the] key to a good marriage.”
His interviewer couldn’t agree more. “That’s where the craft is.”

Owing to his global phenomenon of Deadpool, Ryan Reynolds has got no fear about cutting to the chase and asking the questions we’re all too afraid to ask—especially when faced with a Hollywood hunk like Hugh Jackman aka The Wolverine

The two X-Men Origins co-stars found themselves face to face once again after Reynolds decided to crash a press junket for Jackman’s latest film, Eddie the Eagle. Unfortunately for the Oscar nominee, but extremely fortunate for everyone else, Reynolds breezed into his first celebrity interview with a line-up of eccentric questions only he could ask the esteemed star.

“Do you ever age?” Reynolds continued. “Not since 2008,” Jackman replied.
“You are f–king gorgeous!” he responded. We’re starting to sense a bit of a man crush developing here.

And then DeadPool gave us more reasons than one to just go wham wham alongside.

Gmail Without Google Account – Keep Those Yahoo IDs handy!

0

Google is now letting you use Gmail without — well, a Gmail account. If you’re really old school and are still hanging onto that Hotmail or Yahoo email address, Google is letting you use email client service.

The company specifically names Yahoo and Hotmail/Outlook, so your AOL email (who are you?) won’t work with Gmail. And before you fret over functionalities, you will also be able to get all the goodness that comes with an official @gmail email address, like inbox filtering, spam blocking and even Google Now cards (for Android users). Sammakka Saarakka Jathara : The Story And Some Interesting Facts About It

0

Telangana has an inclination towards celebrating a given occasion with lots of grandeur and glory. This year’s celebration of Sammakka Saarakka Jathara, where devotees gather in memory of Sammakka and Saarakka at Medaram in the district of Warangal has begun with all pomp.

Sammakka Saarakka Jathara (fair) or Medaram Jathara is a tribal festival celebrated twice a year at Medaram. People from Telangana, Andhra, Maharastra, Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh come to take part in this Jathara. Touted to be one of the largest gathering across the country, this festival takes place for four days (2016 – February 17-20).

Situated in the Eturunagaram Wildlife santuary, Medaram is a remote village where this festival has been taking place for over 1000 years now. While bangaram (Jaggery) equal to their weight is offered, this place is flooded with devotees during these four days of celebration. The gathering is so huge that the traffic on the Warangal highway extends upto 60 kms sometimes.

Here we bring to you all that you need to know about this festival: Story behind this festival and few interesting snippets.

Story of Sammakka and Sarakka Jatara

It was about 6-7 centuries ago when a group of tribals who went hunting into the forest found a baby girl lying amidst emitting light. The head of the tribe adopted her raised her. He got her married to feudatory tribal chief of Kakatiyas. They had three children, Saarakka, Nagulamma and Jampanna.

Their region faced a severe drought which dried up their lakes resulting in their head Pagididda Raju (husband of Sammakka) failing to pay their share of tribute to the Kakatiya King Pratapa Rudra. In turn the King Pratapa Rudra sent his army to collect the tribute from tribals. This resulted in a war between the Kakatiyas and tribals. Everyone from Saarakka to Jampanna lost their lives in the battle trying to protect their section.

Upon hearing this, Sammakka too joined the forces and fought valiantly and ransacked the Kakatiya army. Shocked by her bravery, the Kakatiya king visited the tribe for peace talks. Being furious about the loss of her tribe, family and people, Sammakka refused to come to terms and continued to fight. She pledged to her people that as long as she is alive she would protect them. She in turn cursed that the Kakaitya kingdom would perish soon. After being seriously injured in the battle and sending away the Kakatiya army, she walked into the forest towards Chilakala Gutta.

When the tribals went in search for her, they only found a box containing vermillion (Kumkum), few bangles and a pug mark of a tigress. To their surprise this was the exact place where they found as a baby girl in the forest. Since then the tribes have been hosting a festival in her remembrance for her bravery in protecting their tribe.

Here are some interesting snippets about this tribal festival

It fires 7.62 mm calibre rounds at a blistering rate of 6,000 rounds per minute, or 100 rounds per second — about ten times that of an ordinary machine gun, according to the Guinness World Records.
But, Let’s see the new one. Metal Storm gun — whose firing speed blows M134 Minigun away. The Metal Storm gun, on the other hand, makes the M134 look like a toy.

Justice Delayed Is Justice Denied : One Month Of The Dalit Student Plea Unheard

0

By Shahamat Hussain

Today, the University of Hyderabad is witnessing the one month of the ongoing strike in its campus since the suicide of Rohith Vemula.  Much-debated Rohith’s suicide is yet to get the justice. The demands and pleadings of the Joint action Committee have fallen deaf on fascist Government. The students of ASA (Ambedkar Student Association), SFI (Student Federation of India), NSUI (National Student Union of India) and other parties are toiling to support the cause inside the campus and across Nation. Alleged Appa Rao has gone on indefinite vacation leaving the whole academics of the university paralyzed.

As far as the legal side of it is concerned, letter has been received from MHRD, counter affidavit is filed by the university in the high court. The counter affidavit filed by CV Anand showing evidences and facts about the case raises numerous questions on involved authorities and individuals. Surprisingly, MHRD panel held university administration responsible for Vemula’s suicide. Story seems to be contradictory with the fact that letters were exchanged between Smiriti Irani, Bandaru Dattareya and Appa Rao. These are only making the case further complicated.

Rohith Vemula Suicide

The saddening part is that in spite of giving justice to dead Rohith, his character is being assassinated. He has been accused of forged SC caste certificate. His mother is being politically targeted for selfish motives of the various political parties.

An independent, impartial, speedy and efficient judicial system is the very essence of a progressive nation. Our judiciary, owing to its very nature of functioning, has become ponderous, extremely slow and somewhat inefficient. Justice delayed is justice denied as we have been witnessing this in the past one month to this case. The plethora of support from students and other parties has started to lose the hope and momentum. The continuing and growing number of tragic suicides of students belonging to marginalize section of society makes it imperative that the Rohith law be enacted. And that is the demand of students, Joint Action Committee for social justice, the whole country and not to forget Rohith’s family.

Handwriting Maketh A Man-How Does Every Stroke Define You

0

Handwriting has always been considered the most unique feature which differentiates people. Apart from Fingerprints, and DNA’s implications, Hand Writing is something which is the most useful identification for a person. We present to you how every little nuance of your writing defines you..

If Your Writing Slants…

Handwriting
To the right: You are open to the world around you and like to socialize with other people.
To the left: You generally like to work alone or behind the scenes. If you are right-handed and your handwriting slants to the left, you may be expressing rebellion.
Not at all: You tend to be logical and practical. You are guarded with your emotions.

If the Size of Your Letters Is…

HandwritingLarge: You have a big personality. Many celebrities have large handwriting. It may suggest that you are outgoing and like the limelight.
Small: You are focused and can concentrate easily. You tend to be introspective and shy.
Average: You are well-adjusted and adaptable.

If Your S’s Are…

Handwriting

Round: You are a people-pleaser and seek compromise. You avoid confrontation.
Pointy: You are intellectually probing and like to study new things. The higher and pointier the peaks, the more ambitious you are.
Open at the bottom: You might not be following your heart. For example, you always wanted to be an artist, but you have a career in finance.
Printed: You are versatile.

If your Writing Style is..

HandwritingFaint, like a bad photocopy, simply focus on pressing harder. It indicates a willingness to learn and adapt to the circumstances. Also a flexibility of learning is indicative. A stronger grip leading into bolder writing, is symbolic of affirmative nature.

If your Pressure is….

Handwriting

Heavy pressure indicates commitment and taking things seriously, but if the pressure is excessively heavy, that writer gets very uptight at times and can react quickly to what they might see as criticism, even though none may have been intended. These writers react first and ask questions afterwards. Light pressure shows sensitivity to atmosphere and empathy to people, but can also, if the pressure is uneven, show lack of vitality.

If Your Spacing is….

Handwriting
The benchmark by which to judge wide or narrow spacing between words is the width of one letter of the person’s handwriting.
Wide spaces between words are saying – ‘give me breathing space’.
Narrow spaces between words indicate a wish to be with others, but such writers may also crowd people and be intrusive, notably if the writing lacks finesse.

If Your Margins are…

HandwritingThe sides of the page each have a meaning. The left side margin shows the roots and beginnings/family. The right side shows other people and the future. The top is goals and ambitions. The foot of the page shows energy, instincts and practicality. Therefore margins are very informative.
If the writer has a wide left margin, the interest is in moving on. If it is narrow, caution and wanting to avoid being pushed before they are ready is indicated. Narrow right margin shows impatience and eagerness to get out there and on with things.Wide right margin shows that there may be some fear of the unknown.

That’s how we know everything about you folks. Found that interesting.

Oscars 2016 Special – Which Movie Is Fated To Win Big

0
Oscars

Oscars race is always one to generate great buzz and speculation, but when it comes to the Best Picture, the biggest prize of them all, the discussion and debate is tremendously more pronounced. The hunt for the most prestigious golden statuette has had its fair share of controversies and fairytale finishes, but this year this race is turning out to be more fascinating than ever. With eight nominees out of the permitted ten, and no clear frontrunner, it seems to be a free for all this year with all eight movies having a real shot at claiming glory. With the big night not very far away, let’s dive in and have a look at our eight nominees…

MAD MAX : FURY ROAD

One year ago, almost no one would’ve thought that this fourth entry into a 50 year old franchise releasing almost 25 years after the previous movie would become one of the biggest hits of the year, let alone a contender for Best Picture. But that’s exactly what has happened, George Miller’s dystopian action masterpiece Mad Max: Fury Road has been nominated for 10 Oscars including Best Director and Picture, talk about comebacks. It also has won the most number of critic’s awards and has been named the Best Film of the Year by the National Board of Review. Carrying some serious momentum, the only thing that holds it back is that the Academy almost rarely nominates movies of this genre, let alone reward them. But hey, almost everyone who has seen the movie agrees that it is quite possibly, the greatest action film ever made, so the Academy might just be ready to break some old stereotypes.

SPOTLIGHT

Another critic’s favourite but poles apart from the first movie on this list. A story about the Boston Globe’s investigation into sexual abuse carried out by the Church, Spotlight too, like its predecessor on this list was showered with awards and praise by critics. It is a small movie that makes a huge impact, with one of the best ensemble performances of the year, two of whom, Mark Ruffalo and Rachel McAdams are in contention for Best Supporting Actor and Actress, respectively. As the Oscar season has gone on, some consensus has formed over Spotlight as the front runner this season, as it is the kind of movie the Academy tends to reward coupled with the fact it is a splendidly well made and acted to boot. Will the Academy indeed go for the safe bet or shake things up, we’ll have to wait and watch.

THE REVENANT

Alejandro Gonzalez Innaritu is back again this year after his triumph with Birdman in 2015. There was buzz around The Revenant as an Oscar contender but few had predicted major nominations after news of a troubled production and a set that had been labeled a ‘living hell’ broke out. But lo and behold, The Revenant has secured a resounding 12 nominations, the highest of the night, including one for Best Director and Actor. Leonardo Dicaprio is almost certainly going to lift the golden statuette this year for his immensely committed performance of a man left for dead against the forces of nature. The Revenant is also the most violent and visceral movie out of all the nominees with breathtaking cinematography by Emmanuel Lubezki, who too is a locked on favourite for winning his third Best Cinematography award in a row. Although it is unlikely that the Academy will reward Innaritu just one year after his double whammy with Birdman, but given the level of skill and craft that has been put in to make this movie, they just might.

THE MARTIAN

A crowd pleasing blockbuster that also scored big with the critics, The Martian is the highest grossing movie of all the nominees with a worldwide cume of over $600 million. Ridley Scott’s science fiction survival movie was the source of great controversy when it was nominated for Best Picture – Comedy or Musical at the Golden Globes (which it quite deservedly won though). How does a movie about surviving alone on Mars be termed a comedy? Well, although by no means a conventional laugh riot, The Martian is quite possibly the most entertaining movie of the year. Filled with wit and humour and bolstered by a charming and effervescent performance by Matt Damon, who himself is in the contention for Best Actor on the night, it is a great comeback for director Ridley Scott, who shockingly was not nominated for Best Director, something many had predicted. But the Academy may want to make amends for the snub, and although sci-fi is not a genre which sits well with the Academy Scott is an old favourite whose movie have won Best Picture in the past. Whether he triumphs this time around, we’ll just have

ROOM

An indie darling and one of the most daring and original films of the year, Lenny Abrahamson’s, Room is the most unlikely nominee of the night. A movie about a woman and her child trapped inside a single room, it is carried by a powerhouse performance by Brie Larson, who is a favourite to win the Best Actress. What is astonishing about the movie is the human drama it manages to milk out of the confined setting which is in part due to the absolutely wonderful performances by the two leads. Jacob Trembelay as the son might just have given the greatest performance for a child actor, who in another year might as well have been nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Although it might be termed as the underdog in the race and may not have the mass appeal of Mad Max or The Martian, but if recent history is anything to go by then Best Picture winners have shown that David can indeed slay the Goliath. Room might just be the newest David on the block ready for his big moment on the biggest nights of them all.

THE BIG SHORT

An ensemble comedy about the financial crisis of 2008 that turned out to be an unlikely awards season favourite, The Big Short has the kind of cast that would make jaws hit the floor almost instantly, with Christian Bale, Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell along with Marisa Tomei and Margot Robbie. But the movie was never considered a serious Oscar contender, perhaps because it was helmed by Adam Mckay, the man mostly known for comedies like Anchorman and Talladega Nights. However, that very fact has worked in the film’s favour, as its tongue in cheek style along with its semi light-hearted approach to such a serious issue won plaudits from critics and audiences alike. It is the kind of movie people wanted The Wolf of Wall Street to be, raunchy and entertaining, but also showing the moral ramifications of indulging in fraud and crime. It is high on momentum with critics calling it as the closest thing to a frontrunner along with Spotlight for the Oscars crown. Incredibly acted and unconventionally yet superbly well made, The Big Short might just go all the way and strike gold on the night.

BRIDGE OF SPIES

How can a Oscars Best Picture slate be complete without a Steven Spielberg movie? One of the greatest directors of all time, Steven Spielberg has always delighted critics and audiences with his heartfelt and masterful direction, crafting masterpieces and blockbusters alike. This year too he is back, with a movie set in the Cold War, about a lawyer tasked with fighting for a Russian spy, Bridge of Spies is everything one would expect from Spielberg. The movie reunites the director with long time collaborator Tom Hanks, who gives a typically strong performance to anchor the film. It may not be as superlative or everlasting as Schindler’s List or Saving Private Ryan, but Bridge of Spies is a movie that reminds us of the mastery the director is capable of producing, even when he is not trying very hard. It may not be carrying as much momentum as the others but the Academy tends to reward such films and Spielberg has been showered with awards in the past so why not this time around?

BROOKLYN

The most conventional awards season movie to be nominated this year, but also one of the best films of the year. Brooklyn may just have the most straightforward story of all the eight nominees at this years Oscars. A film about an Irish immigrant who gets caught between her two lives in America and Ireland, the movie is carried effortlessly by an outstanding performance by Saiorise Ronan, who is in contention for Best Actress for her role in the movie. Brooklyn is a modern age Casablanca, with superb heartfelt performances and a moving story to boot. It may not be the biggest movie of the nominees but as they say ‘big things come in small packages’, Brooklyn has more heart and human drama than all the other nominees combined and might as well have enough in it to make it that next big thing.

What’s Your Bet? Don’t really agree with the official Oscars list. Well, not many did.

8 Qualities That Make KCR Stand Apart From Other Leaders

0

You know one is a leader of the masses when he is able to pull crowds and engross you with his words/charisma/presence. Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao, the first CM of Telangana carries that elan of being a leader and an able administrator.

KCR started his political career as a youth leader with the Congress. He then moved to join Telugu Desam Party led by N.T. Rama Rao and contested as MLA from Siddipet in the 1983 elections which he lost. From 1985, there was no looking back for KCR. He won four back to back Assembly elections from Siddipet and got a complete grip over his homeground. He served as the Minister of Drought & Relief and Minister of Transport during this regime. It was in 2001 when he formed the regional party with a sole agenda to achieve a separate state of Telangana.

Since then, it was a tedious battle for all the leaders with the state going through many hurdles and the situation getting more and more awry. Years passed and the final objective was achieved by KCR in getting a separate state and making him the first Chief Minister for the same. Some remained happy, while for some it didn’t go well. It was just the beginning for a yet another major up-hill task for the newly elected leader and the newly formed state. While it might be a bit too early to talk about the state’s progress, reaching this stage has been so far a successful journey for KCR.

But, how did he manage to do that? What factors helped him reach the masses apart from the political strategies every Indian politician undertakes? What was that oomph factor that made and still makes him stand apart from others?

Here find these qualities that led him to be what he is today:

KCR’s colloquial language

KCR’s colloquial language-KCR

He is not a leader who speaks formally at a gathering. He is leader who knows how to relate with his people. He talks like your neighbour or any next door person about your issues and argues for them like one among you. There is an instant connect when you do this. The added quality is, he is very well versed with Hindi, Telugu, Urdu and English, which is why he knows where and how to speak what.

KCR knows the numbers right

KCR knows the numbers right-KCR

When he talks on how many acres are available in Warangal district for the SEZ zone and how much he can allocate, he comes out with the exact number of acres available. That shows the grip he has over his state. This is just an example. Check out any of his speeches and you will love them for the statistics he uses.

A Grip on the functioning of his administration and History of Events

A Grip on the functioning of his administration and History of Events-KCR

After he set out his agenda to carve a separate state, his thirst made him research into the functionality of all the administration departments. He very well knows what happens in every department. On the other hand, almost every speech of his contains one or the other example from the past. He gives a detailed explanation as to why the situation was perceived in a manner then and how should it be perceived in the present times.

Straight to the point! No beating around the bush

Straight to the point! No beating around the bush-KCR

When he says it, he says he right on the face. It might be hard and break fences at times, but that’s the confidence he has on his statements. While he makes his points crystal clear, he never regrets for any of his words. An attitude of a leader!

An Efficient Leader

An Efficient Leader -KCR

Apart from the effective schemes and their execution that he watches closely, he has ensured his efficiency with the ‘single window system’ for all the investors in the new state. A system where all required approvals would be cleared at one go. Apart from this, the sacking of T Rajaiah for his inefficiency in handling the swine flu cases showed the stern leader he is when you don’t do your job right.

A Visionary leader

A Visionary leader-KCR

Keeping in view the expansion of Hyderabad, his Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) is a great example of his vision. Mission Bhageeradha, a project where he has promised to provide drinking water to every household seems like any leader’s promise, but he regards it as his pet project and is serious to fulfill unlike any leader. These are just to name a few apart from being invited by the Chinese Govt. and Singapore Govt. to speak on various platforms.

A Witty Speaker:

A Witty Speaker-KCR

When KCR gives it back, he not only gives it hard, but he gives it right! Union Minister Jairam Ramesh once mentioned ‘Hyderabad ki biryani aur KCR ki jubani bahut mazedar hote hai’ (both Hyderabad biryani and KCR’s talks are very spicy).

Darling of the Masses:

Darling of the Masses-KCR

His schemes – increasing pension to old age people and widows, Kalyana Lakshmi Scheme – a scheme for SC/ST girls who will be given a one-time financial assistance of Rs. 51,000 at the time of marriage and other such scheme have only got him closer to masses.

We wish him a very Happy Birthday!!

Will These 7 Heroines Help TFI In Finding a Replacement for Soundarya??

0

By Chitra Chowdhury

The Telugu Film Industry is full of talents and beauty. No wonder that the film industry is blessed to have so many gifted actresses apart from the actors.

Indeed many actresses appeared in Telugu films, but only few successfully managed to occupy our hearts and continuously win the same. Being a South Indian, the legendary actress Rekha proved herself in both mainstream movies as well art house. Rekha actually started her career with a Telugu movie “Rangula Ratnam” as a child actress.

The legendary actress Savitri had literally ruled the Southern film industry in her time without any flaws. The inheritance of Savitri was taken forward by Soundarya who proved herself worthy enough in every genre movie.

With a girl next door image, Soundarya delivered some strong performances in Telugu and other regional language movies which grasped her to achieve a very prestigious National Film Award and Nandi Award.

Interestingly, the Telugu Superstar Venkatesh once described Saundarya as “a thorough actress” and the legendary movie-actor Akkineni Nageshwara Rao considered her as the appropriate replacement of the renowned actress Savitri.

After the sudden demise of Soundarya it is hard to find a versatile cine-artist like her anyway. However, in modern era the Telugu film industry is consecrated to have many dynamic actresses who are actually doing very well in every genre cinema and they are earning huge accolades. Let’s check the best and the closest to this replacement

Here are the Shinning Ones:

Anushka Shetty:

Anushka Shetty -Soundarya

Though she came like any other glam doll, she very well knew how to go about with her roles. Arundathi being a major break for women centric roles, Anushka never looked back post that. Vedam, Bahubali and Rudramadevi in Telugu, Singham, Yennai Arindhal in Tamil only made this Mangalore girl prove her acting charisma.

Nayantara

Nayantara-Soundarya

The stunning actress started her career with a bang getting an early chance with Rajnikanth. Though she fumbled a bit, she came back on track with SriramarajyamKrishnam Vande Jagadgurum in Telugu and Raja Rani, Thani Oruvan and the latest Naanum Rowdydhaan in Tamil.

Kajal Agarwal

Kajal Agarwal-Soundarya

Kajal Agarwal is the most prettiest actresses in Telugu cinema. She proved her gigantic acting skill in movies right from her first movie Lakshmi Kalyanam and continued with movies like Magdheera, Arya 2 and so on.

Samantha

Samantha-Soundarya

Samantha is the most celebrated actress and a ruler with her dazzling performances. Her arrival was even bigger than Naga Chaintanya in Yemaya Chesave where she became a hot property instantly. She continued with Dookudu, Eega, Manam and is continuing to have her kitty full with roles.

Nithya Menon

Nithya Menon-Soundarya

The Malayalam actress was a find by Nandini Reddy, he multi-talented side is her added advantage. Short and cute, she has lots loads of substance in her which she has proved it time and again.

Tammannah

Tammannah-Soundarya

A bubbly actress that she is, Tammannah entered the industry at a very young age of 17. She didn’t have a great start in Telugu baring Happy Days, but managed to keep all eyes on her with which ever roles she went on to do.

Shruti Haasan

Shruti Haasan-Soundarya

Once Gabbar Singh was a hit, Shruti never turned back. With Racegurram, Srimanthudu in Telugu, she only looks to get her leg steady and prove her worth in the future.

JNU Riots – Sedition Or Crushing Dissent ? A Wirally Report

0

Shahamat Hussain

Last week, Kanhaiya Kumar, the Students’ Union President at JawaharLal Nehru University, was arrested on sedition charges. He is accused of rising anti National slogans in the campus in context of Afzal Guru’s hanging. The hearing of this case took place yesterday at Delhi’s Patiala House Court.

JNU

Several students, faculties and journalists present at the venue were man-handled by the lawyers under the curious eye of the Police. The BJP leader and legislator, O P Sharma, was also seen in a video footage, beating a student. The JNU issue has turned out as a political upsurge in the country. Various political parties in the country are intervening in the matter and seeking their own advantages from the issue.

JNUAccording to another perspective, JNU is being so targeted, in order to drift away from Rohith Vemula’s suicide case that still continues to burn at University of Hyderabad. While the government authorities have yet to provide a reasonable answer on the discriminatory practices and undue involvement in university campuses in reference to Rohith Vemula’s case, the arrest of JNUSU President, Kanhiya Kumar, has twisted the matters further and questioned the integrity of student body that voted for Kanhiya in the university elections.

JNU

Though the alleged charges on Kanhiya Kumar have yet to be proved in the court, but it clearly shows the fascism that the BJP Government is trying to impose on the students across the country. Any tone of voice against them is being termed as “Anti- National”.

JNU

The freedom of speech of students is curbed on the belief of sedition. According to the sec 124-A of the IPC(Indian Penal Code)
“Whoever, by words, either spoken or written, or by signs, or visible representation, or otherwise, brings or attempts to bring into hatred or contempt, or excites or attempts to excite dissatisfaction towards the Government established by law in [India], shall be punished with [imprisonment for life] to which fine may be added, or with imprisonment which may extend to three years, to which fine may be added, or with fine.”

JNU

Kanhaiya Kumar, was not even present at the situation when slogans were raised but when the arguments on the situation got heated he was called up.  His arrest was targeted and attack on crushing the dissent.

JNU

The police intervention in the campuses, in both the cases, Rohith Vemula’s and Kanhiaya Kumar’s is foul. The university campuses should be left to solve their problems on own. The political interferences in the campus are branding the University as Anti-National spaces. University mechanism and their functioning are being threatened and are being made to admit defeat to the ruling government.

Patricia Narayan : Story Of 50 Paise A Day To Owning The Famous Chain Of Restaurants, Sandeepha

0

If taken positively, every struggle contains the seed of growth and opportunity. The struggle is when you refuse to give up and keep taking consistent actions amidst odds and hurdles, regardless of failures and disappointments.

Patricia Narayan proudly held the ‘FICCI Woman Entrepreneur of the Year’ award but this success didn’t come easily to her, she too had her fair share of rain before the rainbow could shine on.

Patricia Narayan

The year 1977, 17-year-old Patricia Thomas, eldest of 3 siblings was studying at Queen Mary’s when she met Narayan, a Brahmin boy, whom she married the same year against the wish of her Christian family.

Pandora Box opened for her post-marriage, within years her father disowned her, her Prince Charming turned out to be an abusive drug addict, with no financial support and two children to care for, her marriage stood shattered in front of her eyes.

“I knew I should either succumb to the burden or fight; I decided to fight my lonely battle.” she says

Nowhere to go Patricia turned to her passion for cooking, took a 100 rupee from her mother and started making pickles, jam, jelly and squashes.

Patricia Narayan

June 21, 1982, with 2 disable employees started her own mobile cart at Marina beach. Her cart sold cutlets, samosas, fresh juice, coffee and tea. The first-day sale was only a coffee for 50 paise.

“The Marina is my business school, it is my MBA,” says Patricia.

Following day she sold eatables worth Rs. 600-700. Working hard at Marina cart from 1982 to 2003, the maximum she made was Rs 25,000 a day.

Next she took up catering at the Slum Clearance Board, it boasted her income by 20,000. Year 2004, on the verge to start a restaurant business of her own along with son Praveen, she suffered another emotional trauma. Patricia’s daughter who got married a month back and her son-in-law died in a road accident.

This devastated Patricia and her son started their first restaurant ‘Sandeepha’ in memory of Patricia’s late daughter.

Patricia Narayan

Ever since Sandeepha has 14 outlets across Chennai. Patricia grew from 50 paise a day to an average of Rs. 2 lakh daily.

On the day of demise of her daughter, the ambulance denied carrying dead bodies and her daughter was brought back in the boot of a car. She now provides for an ambulance service at the same spot to help others.

Patricia Narayan

3 decades of hard work, 14 outlets, 200 employees and a daily income of 2 lakh, Patricia has proved no hurdle can ever stop a determined soul.

She is an Inspiration to many of us !!!

Check Out Some Of The Magical Moments Of The Series Where Inexperienced Sri Lanka Tumbled!

0

By Lalith Vamsee

The T20 International series between India and Srilanka which was hosted at 3 venues, Pune, Ranchi and Vizag created many twists and sophisticated revenges in a short period.

Here bringing to you the best of the moments of yet another victorious series

Match 1:

Kasun Rajitha-Srilanka

Many predicted that the T20 series against Sri Lanka was supposed to be a cakewalk for the favorites and very in-form, Team India, who were presently preparing to take back the World Twenty20 title. But, once again, cricket reminded many of the age-old cliché – it is a game of glorious uncertainties.

It was debutant fast bowler of Sri Lanka Kasuna Rajitha (3/29) and his partner Dasun Shanaka who bounced up the batsmen and reminded them that there was nothing called ‘favourites’ in the game. This right-arm pacer , bowled his heart out, on a green track, and triggered India’s collapse to 101 runs, which fetched the Lankans an easy five-wicket victory in the first of the three-match T20 series.

Match 2 :

Sikhar Dhawan-Srilanka

After a shocking Loss, the Indian team produced a clinical performance, getting into the groove. Before the series started, that was what everyone expected of India against an inexperienced and new-looking Sri Lankan side. But the shock that Men in Blue got in the first match at Pune had somewhat jolted the Indian fans. Now that turned to an anomaly that Indian team swiftly forgot and moved on. For India, a lot of positive scenes came out from the match – Shikar Dhawan blasting a 22 ball half century to get India off to rolling start and then Raina and Pandya adding good runs in the middle-order, gave a good score to India putting up a 197 target on the scorecard. The Indian bowlers were spot on as well in this match. Ashwin bowled with the new ball and was successful. Nehra once again provided wickets early on. Bumrah bowled in the death and showed that he has what it takes to be a good death-overs bowler for India.

Apart from the late hat-trick by Thisara Perera, there were not many things Sri Lanka did well. It was a brutal Revenge against Srilanka. And, India eyed to clinch the series decider match at Vishakhapatnam.

Match 3 :

Dhoni,Ashwin-Srilanka

The top order came to the party and bowlers restricted Sri Lanka. Vizag pitch deemed to be a batting beauty, offered much help to the batting. India has won the toss and elected to bowl first. India is playing with an unchanged eleven while Sri Lanka has made three changes. Insipid Sri Lanka was dismissed for paltry 82. Only Shanaka and Perera managed to cross double figures. R Ashwin was the pick of the bowler getting 4 wickets conceding just 8 runs, besting his own previous record.  Raina took 2 wickets for just six runs.

India was never really stretched while chasing. Dhawan played a fluent knock and ended with 46 not out at run a ball. Rohit Sharma was the lone man to be dismissed, after scoring 13. Rahane was not out on 22 of 24 balls. India reached the total with 37 balls to spare and 9 wickets in hand.

Hence, India Pull off The trophy with shear brilliance.

By Apeksha Tickoo

Advertisements have always been an integral part of the small screen space. While some advertisements compel you to change the channel, there are others which manage to strike a chord with you. And once in a while you come across an ad which features a face you just cannot overlook. At the present time, the ‘4G Girl’ has stolen all the limelight. Not just her, in the past there have been many people who featured in an advertisement and turned stars overnight. We bet you know some of them so well!

  1. THE PRETTY PREITY

In the year 1997 Preity Zinta was seen in a Liril Ad and it left everyone talking about the new alluring Liril girl. Though it wasn’t her first ad but this changed her life completely and got her into the limelight. Since then, she has never looked back and we really hope she never does! https://youtu.be/dA4vscgKqBE

Rakul became an overnight sensation with this ad and within a month of this ad being launched, her Facebook page gained more than 3 lakh fans. Rakul accepts that the appreciation and love she got after this ad is far more than what she got for her character in Yaariyaan. Here is the cute ad that captures love in the best way!

  1. THE LAKME GIRL

Lakme came up with an ad of a girl tossing popcorns in a cricket stadium. This is when Yana Gupta stole everyone’s heart. This ad was made long before Yana Featured in ‘babuji zara dheere chalo’ but one can clearly make out from this ad that this pretty face will make it big.So brace yourselves for this Ad featuring the Czech beauty.

  1. YUMMY YAMI

Yami Gautam had worked in a couple of films before she signed up for the Fair and Lovely advertisement. This beauty from Himachal caught everyone’s attention with her dreamy looks and magnetic smile all thanks to this advertisement. Soon after this ad, she signed her first movie opposite Ayushman Khurrana and is sure to soar great heights.

  1. THE 4G AD GIRL

This girl is the latest sensation that the ad world has given us. Sasha Chettri became extremely popular within a very short span after her Airtel 4G ad was launched. The line, Kya main aapko jaanthi hoon? (Do I know you?), with a confused and irritated look of Umang Jain in a Cadbury advert has fluttered a million hearts, adding up to this peary-eyed model-plus-actor’s fanbase. The mood of the picture, the simplicity of the dialogues, and the subtle background music – and icing on the cake was Umang’s timid girl-next-door act, which has made it a memorable piece of work on the small screen. She went to play important roles in Star Plus shows.

8. KRITI SANON FOR AMUL ICE-CREAM

A classic situation, and pretty standard affair of an ad, but for the cutest girlfriend featured in it. Kriti Sanon, with her trademark, full dental smile, sped up many a heartbeat. In hindsight, we all know that Tammana is anything, but dark. But then those were days where we knew nothing about the sensation she was going to be. We always scratched our heads about where we first saw her. Well, fret no more, we are here and this is the advertisement.

10. DEEPIKA PADUKONE FOR CLOSE-UP

Well, Ms.Padukone. she did it all. Modelling, Music Videos, Bollywood movies and now even Hollywood movies ( XXX with Vin Diesel ). But long before this all, she was the epitome of tall and cute, in this totally fresh close up ad. Wonder how she remained equally beautiful all these years. See it to Believe it.

Telugu opening batsman Sachin Joshi made 114 runs off 49 deliveries to help his side win CCL 6 trophy. Batting first, Karnataka Bulldozers set a target of 208 runs which was easily chased down by Warriors in the end with 14 deliveries to spare.

The sixth season of Celebrity Cricket League, CCL 2016 saw defending champions Telugu Warriors defeat two-times CCL winner Karnataka Bulldozers in an exciting final played at the Uppal Stadium, Hyderabad. Maintaining the legacy of Celebrity Cricket League, Telugu Warriors won back to back trophy as Chennai Rhinos won in 2011 and 2012 while Karnataka had won it in 2013 and 2014. And now we have Akhil Akkineni’s Warriors winning it in 2015 and 2016.

Karbonn Kamaal Catch award was given to Samrat of Telugu Warriors. Boost Energetic Player was given to Dhruv Sharma of Karnataka Bulldozers who made an unbeaten 97 runs. The Man of the Match is Sachin Joshi of Telugu Warriors for making 114 runs off 49 deliveries. Aditya Ojha of Bhojpuri Dabanggs is adjudged the Best Bowler of CCL 2016. Srikanth Srinivasan Is The First Indo-American US Chief Justice?

0

With Senior U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia’s untimely demise on Saturday, Feb. 13, the legal circuit is now in search for a worthy succession. And one name that is prominently being heard is Sri Srinivasan — a government lawyer for the United States Court of Appeals in the D.C. Circuit. As people are trying to comprehend the loss of Justice Scalia, many are left wondering who is Padmanabhan Srikanth “Sri” Srinivasan?

USA Today, The Atlantic, The New Yorker, and many more have reported that Srinivasan is among the names being thrown around as a front-runner to take Scalia’s seat. Below are some of the things that make him particularly qualified to take up the occupancy..

Srikanth Srinivasan

Srinivasan was the first Asian American and Indian American to serve of the Court of Appeals in the D.C. circuit. That in itself is a milestone many only dream of.

Srikanth Srinivasan

President Obama nominated Srinivasan to sit on the Court of Appeals, which is the second most powerful court in the U.S. With a background as a litigator, Srinivasan’s career was spent protecting liberal views rather than heeding to his prejudices.

Srikanth Srinivasan

Srinivasan proved his mettle as a lawyer when he argued for same-gender marriage in front of the Supreme Court in 2013. This was a big win for Srinivasan that showed others he could be fit to serve on the Court, and that has prompted people to look to him as a possible replacement.

Srikanth Srinivasan

The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals has been a sort of launching pad for Supreme Court Justices in the past; Clarence Thomas, John Roberts, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Antonin Scalia all got their start there before serving on the Supreme Court. That means that Srinivasan, with experience on the D.C. Circuit and a strong background in litigation, could likely end up as Scalia’s replacement.

Srikanth Srinivasan

Even though Srinivasan was appointed by Obama and has left-leaning views (i.e. defending same-gender marriage), his background as a litigator fighting for others’ views could put him in a good position to objectively approach right-leaning issues (like maintaining the 2nd Amendment).

Srikanth Srinivasan

With nearly a year left in office, Obama will likely nominate someone to replace Scalia, rather than simply conceding to Republicans who will want to expedite the replacement process and try to force Obama into confirming their nominee. Because of this, Srinivasan, who has been viewed as the next SCOTUS (Supreme Court Of The US) nominee since 2013 and who has a relationship with Obama, has been pushed to the forefront.

Srikanth Srinivasan

Srinivasan successfully prevented a legal immigrant from being deported over a minor gun offense and represented a Spanish-speaking child in Arizona in a case alleging the state had failed to provide enough

Srikanth Srinivasan

Srinivasan also successfully represented a criminal defendant before the Supreme Court who had been charged with a felony because he purchased cocaine on his cellphone, when he would have been charged with a misdemeanor otherwise.

Srikanth Srinivasan

Srinivasan wrote a brief siding against the government and with the target of unconstitutional surveillance in a brief filed in the important US v. Jones case. That prompted the clockwork in surveillance to change for good.

10 (1)

Perhaps most importantly for observers wondering whether Srinivasan plays for team blue or team red, he was on the legal team that represented Al Gore in Bush v. Gore.

Let’s hope the US law circuitry finally open up to the prolific law mind that Mr.Sri Srinivasan is, adding one more feather to global achievements of Indian origins.

Game Of Thrones Lands Its First Trailer For 2016 (Hall Of Faces)

0

Game of Thrones is coming, and this is just the beginning. HBO entertainment, today put out the first trailer for the sixth season of the low-fantasy show, an 80-second clip set in the mystical Hall of Faces (of Arya’s fate). The camera ominously hovers around the quiet hall, focusing on the disembodied faces of characters lost in the series so far before doing something spectacular – It stops at Tyrion Lannister. What do we make of it? Still anybody’s guess I’d say. And then, a couple of more significant characters are shown, throwing probables for this season’s Big Death.

What about Jon Snow then? Watch the trailer, and let us know.

Season six marks the point at which the show will overtake the books, for the first time, thanks to George R.R. Martin’s glacial writing pace, and the inclination of  maintaining a successful TV series. If the previously released screenshots are anything to go by, we are in for a great season up ahead

From April 24th, when season six premiers, we shall be waiting.

Nostalgic Dose Of These 15 Advertisements In The 90’s Is Pretty Damn High!

0

Television advertisements have always played a huge deal in our lives. Specifically in India, they have an everlasting impact on our culture, language and nostalgic thought process, apart from market trends. Below are a few of them, which truly established the advertisment market in India.

Kya Swaad Hai Zindagi Ka!

Much before Silk became the niche standard for Dairy Milk, and Kiss Me, Close Your Eyes..became like a youth jingle, and way before Vani Kapoor very expertly plucked the Dairy Milk from her unassuming collegue, there was this ad, of a lady dancing in rejoice over a cricket match. Oh you’ll remember the dance. I betcha.

Hamara Bajaj

Well, there was a time before Apache RTRs revving on a race circuit, or Pulsors showing off their insane stunts, not to forget Priyanka going why should boys have all the fun ( seriously, bro she’s having way more fun than any of us on Earth ). That was the time of Bajaj scooters, which we used to KickStart, and if it didn’t start, , bend the scooter, hold for a minute, and again KickStart.

Lijjat Papad…Ehhehhee..!!

Ok, I find the talking puppet a bit creepy now that I’ve seen it after 20 years. But to be fair, It was quite popular, and became unanimous with Papads. Though, I still don’t understand why we don’t get those papads any more. I mean, there are no Dominoes Papads right? Anyways, I’ll stop my nonsense, and let you watch the ad.

Pan Parag Pan Masala

Hume kya pata tha ki aap pan parag ke shaukeen hai..!! I don’t know how that worked for the masses, but the fact is, it did. And ladke vale being adamant over serving Pan Parag to all the baraati’s, is so epic that you’ll be highly nostalgic or immensely tickled. Check It out then because aren’t we all shaukeen bro..!!

https://youtu.be/iR_cb6ts2s4?list=PLnvAphLl_arHmFIUSEHN8MCufS4jZBCAH

Dabur Lal Dant Manjan :

Kya Aapke ToothPaste me namak hai? Dude Please, this Lal Dant Majan ad beats it out of the park. This advertisement, has a whole character dynamics going for it. It tries to address many issues in one.  A master who has no clue about his teeth, a show off student and a shop keeper who is literally distributing the product and societal pressure as well, all wrapped in a minute long ad. Go on then, watch out for chamkeele daanth

Utterly Butterly Amul :

So the girl hasn’t grown one bit. Probably the first cartoon character to endorse a product. The polka dotted dress, blue hair, and pony tail, mascot of Amul is still a regular feature in leading news papers and magazines. Go ahead and go utterly butterly. Nostalgic level – SkyHigh

Surf Ki Kharidari Me Hi Samjhdari Hai..

Ok, seriously this ad left me in splits., seriously. So I’ll tell you how the ad goes. The voice over basically asks questions to Lalitha ji, and she promptly answers them, in a classic viva voce scenario. Talk of breaking the fourth wall…Sorry DeadPool, we did it first. Actually, washed it in Surf. Check it out..

Maggi Noodles..!!

This started everything. Oh I’ll venture on to say that, the noodles swirling around a fork in this ad, was your David Blaine moment back then. VFX had been newly introduced and the options were still being explored, but this ad, I must say did a pretty good job of it. Aren’t we all relieved that Maggi is back. I sure am.

I’m a Complan Human..!!

Dig this. So we have an advertisement targeted at Indian masses, but made entirely in English. Starring Shahid Kapoor, and Ayesha Takia, in titular roles, playing, jumping and basically doing everything to imply their super growth and super strength, this ad had a long lasting effect which probably only Boost overhauled with the ‘it’s my energy’ slogan. Nostalgia Level – Interstellar

Archies To The Rescue !!

Damn, I’m feel so old now. This ad, even I couldn’t remember, until the visual shot up, where the girl is super impressed by the guy when he gets down on his knees and well, shows her an Archie heart. Oh, I’m telling you, if this doesn’t get you nostalgic, I’m afraid nothing else will.

FewiKwik..Chutki me Chipkai..!!

Well, true to its word, even today its practically very hard to get FeviKwik, off your skin. And I didn’t really get this Boss-Secretary dynamics, where the Secretary instead of getting her job done, opts for Fewikwik and shuts out the boss. I mean, Lady, he still can shout out orders to you. Anyway, good ad, let’s not dissect it. Watch it to know it.

Suzuki Samurai – No Problem

A Japanese guy chanting No Problem all over the ad length which makes no sense at all. But still India had recently opened up its doors to the world economics, and the asian markets lapped it up. No problem indeed. Watch it to relive the bike ad.

Kissan Jam

Starring the very handsome and suave, Rahul Dravid as jam jam jammy, is well, utterly cute. The cricketer has some real screen presence, I’ll give you that. And quite the acting skills to pull off, a woman, a monk and almost a vampire. Those days, huh? Presenting The Wall as Jammy. Nostalgic Level – Beyond Everything..

SunDrop Oil – For Healthy People

There’s some serious Ant-Man stuff going on here. The boy reduces to the size of a Gulab Jamun and practically jumps and rolls over every food item made in the said oil. Logic..Not so much. But then who actually wants it, when you can sell it with trick photography and visual effects ( read Garnier Long and Strong or Axe Deo ). Go on watch it then..

Action Ka School Time

You know, this ad always reminded me to polish my shoes, and that was not the thought I wanted to be woken up to. And probably made me rant about how I needed a Bicycle to really pull-off my tucked in shirt. Yeah well silliness, is not so rare. Chalo, this ad is the one that you saw coming subconsciously, so yeah watch it…

So yeah, these were some of our picks. We are pretty curious to know, what your Nostalgic thoughts were. Do Comment in the box below.

Gravitational Waves Detected, India Helped Prove That Einstein Was Right Again !!

0

Physicists have announced the discovery of gravitational waves, ripples in the fabric of space time that were first anticipated by Albert Einstein a century ago.

The discovery of gravitational waves announced Thursday has given momentum to Indian scientists hoping to be the first outside of the U.S. to host the device that detected the signals from the collision of two black holes.

BN-MO787_blackh_G_20160212021108

Indian scientists contributed significantly to the decades long hunt for evidence of gravitational waves and in identifying that they were produced by the cosmic clash of black holes a billion light- years ago.

Around 30 Indians were part of a 1,000-strong team of researchers from 15 countries led by scientists at the California Institute of Technology and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, that made the discovery using detectors at the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory, or LIGO.

“We have detected gravitational waves.  We did it,” said David Reitze, executive director of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (Ligo), at a press conference in Washington.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also lauded Indian scientists for their contribution to the discovery.

There are other gravitational-wave detectors outside the U.S., but they are tuned to different frequencies.

‘It’s how I wanted to tell my story’ says Viidhi Upadhyay, Of Her Beautifully Composed Debut Single !!

0

Once in awhile, there comes an artist who makes you wonder, what took them so long? The artist gives us something so imaginatively beautiful that you can’t help but fall in love with him, or in this case her. Introducing Viidhii Upadhyay. Her latest single Tu Chal, is a melodious track which brings back the good old days of pure pleasant music and thought inducing lyrics to go with it. Amongst the cacophony of chaotic treble beats that we are accustomed to, this single about self discovery stands out as a true, honest and poignant whisper.

I got talking to Viidhii, and instantly knew that she was someone definitely to look out for. Read On!

Viidhi Upadhyay

Hey Viidhi…First of all congratulations on the single. It looks amazing! So where would you say your love for music started?

A big hello to everyone out there. This is Viidhii. I’m from Rajkot, Gujarat. Now a Mumbaikar. Well, I remember singing my own poetic songs when I had just started to speak (2yrs old I guess). There’s a cute story behind it. My father used to name any random toy and I had to make a song on it – that was the game. It was supposed to be a spontaneous task and I used to do it playfully. A song on my pillow, a song on my spinning top, a song on probably anything that was around me. This was when my parents kind of realized that I had a flair of creating my own songs.

Viidhi Upadhyay

Haha, that is pretty cute. YouTube is a wonderful platform for obvious reasons, however was there a thought process you had, to perhaps opt for it ?

YouTube is accessible all over the world, which in turn makes it the most approachable platform for any artist to showcase their art. This was the only thought behind launching my Debut Single on YouTube. It’s been more than a week since I uploaded my song and I cannot deny the fact that YouTube is slowly showing up it’s magic 🙂

Oh we are pretty sure the magic will continue. Now, coming to the single, what’s the story behind it?

Tu Chul (numerologically spelled) was initially created as the Theme Song of a Hindi Movie which had the same story as mine. So, when I started to write,I could visualize my life, my struggles and how i motivated myself every time I faced something wrong. My mind could not stop delivering word after word and phrase after phrase. The words kept flowing. I would say I wrote this song on and for “Myself”. It’s how I wanted to say my story. The movie thing, unfortunately, didn’t happen. So I thought to take it up my way. And here we are..

Viidhi Upadhyay

Wonderful!! The Video looks amazing, quite literally. How easy or difficult was it to choose and focus a technical team on this journey?

A Musician & Performer would team up well with Singer, Lyricist & Composer. Hence I took up all the three roles. Apart from those, I obviously needed a team to take up other responsibilities. When I approached the DOP Mr.Bhumil Soochak, we started to discuss how the story should be told and every time we met, we had a different concept for the song. The song has so much to offer and it was kind of crucial to fix something that would impact the youth as well as the elders. Finally on the 3rd day, the editor Rohit and Bhumil shared another concept which was nothing different than my life story. Dad & I smiled and went on to take the same concept ahead. The video was shot in less than 24hrs which is commendable and I am happy with the team that I got an opportunity to work with.

Viidhi Upadhyay

Your team rocks! That brings me to the next question. What would you say the present situation is for upcoming artists such as yourself, in a country as ours?

Our country is immensely blessed with talented people. But the problem is, rather than encouraging talents, we compare talents and underestimate them. God has blessed everyone differently. No two fingers are the same. How can you expect two different individuals to be similar? In the context of my song, I would like to say that families should encourage girls to take up their goals allow them to follow their passion. Not every girl is born to be a housewife. So people should stop thinking about their post marriage life and let them pursue life of their dreams.

Viidhi Upadhyay

That is very true. Make their Own Vidhi, right? Now that we’ve had a glimpse at the incredible talent that you are, what’s next? Are you onto something then?

Oh yes, I’ve got offers for collaborations and I’m looking forward to take up one by one. But I’ll be equally active in producing my original compositions.

Great. Thank You Viidhii for your time and music. It was a pleasure chatting with you. Our best wishes with you. Hope to see you soon.

So that was Viidhii, folks. Do check out the video link below to discover how incredible the journey to find your soul feels….

Changing Your iPhone settings To This Date Will Kill It

0

Manually setting the date of your iPhone or iPad to 1 January 1970, or tricking your friends into doing it, will cause it to get permanently stuck while trying to boot back up if it’s switched off.

When the phone is turned off and turned on again, it refuses to reboot, simply displaying the Apple home screen and going no further.Users have reported that the only way to have the phone fixed is to take it into an Apple Store.

Check out this video by a YouTuber.

The precise cause of the issue has not been confirmed, although speculation points to the way iOS stores date and time formats meaning that 1 January 1970 is stored as a value of zero or less than zero, causing every other process that requires the time stamp to fail.

Jailbroken iPhone users can protect themselves by using several tweaks that prevent the date being set to 1970. Other users can protect themselves by not turning their iPhones off, manually setting the time and date and turning off automatic time changes.

Apple company said that it was looking into the bug.

Telugu directors do have a recognition across the nation in their own way. For the commercial aspects they are specialised in, they always have an edge over others. There have been times when Telugu directors were taken on board in other languages. While few continued to make cinema simultaneously in other languages as well, some of them directed just one or two. The new lot of directors are now trying their hand in bilingual projects. We hope they make us proud!

And Now Facebook India Head Krithiga Reddy, Steps Down: Been A Hard Week For Facebook!!

0

By Lalith Vamsee

A day after shutting down ‘Free Basics’ scheme in India, Facebook’s India head Kirthiga Reddy quits. Reddy is stepping down from the post to return to the US.

Facebook India managing director of nearly six years, Kirthiga Reddy is relocating to the US in the next 6-12 months due to personal reasons, she said in a Facebook post.

“When my family relocated to India, we knew that we would move back to the US someday. It’s a bittersweet moment to share that the return timeframe is coming up in the next 6-12 months. Our two daughters start high school and middle school this coming year— which serves as a natural transition point to make this move back,” said Reddy, who was the first Facebook employee in India.

Facebook was at the Centre of a controversy surrounding its Free Basics platform in India, in the recently concluded consultation on differential pricing of data services.

Facebook India did not immediately answer an email about whether Reddy’s exit was linked to the controversy.

In a very public debate that lasted nearly two months, Facebook tried to push for its Free Basics program that aims to provide free Internet access to certain apps and websites registered on its platform by striking a partnership with a telecom operator. Facebook was accused of abusing its market dominance to swing the debate in its favor, especially after it launched a massive advertising campaign in India which is said to have cost the company over Rs. 150 crore.

The Telecom regulator on Monday barred all forms of differential pricing except in the case of emergency services, putting an end to Free Basics in India, and the social network withdrew the programme from India on Thursday.

She further added that she will be working closely with William Easton and Dan Neary to find a successor for her.

“As I do this, I continue to experience the same aha moments as I did in my first few weeks at Facebook — that our mission is so much bigger, the opportunities are so much larger, and each facebooker is so much more jaw-dropping-inspiring than one thinks possible,” she added.

10 Questions Which Land You That Fancy Job!

0

Where do you see yourself in five years? Tell me about a time when you showed leadership. What is your biggest weakness?

These are the standard questions that job candidates face during interviews. And by now, everyone also has standard answers. (“My biggest weakness? I work too hard.”)

As you scale to the upper rungs of the corporate ladder, you are unlikely to field such mundane queries. For leadership positions, it’s the softer skills that matter.

Therefore, we bring to you conversations with 10 CEOs of Worldwide reputed Companies, about their interview techniques, and the one killer question they like to ask their job candidates. Their approaches vary, but all are designed to test a person’s mindset and mentality.

A first-rate résumé won’t help you now. Consider yourself warned.

“Would you rather be respected or feared?”

Would you rather be respected or feared?-Fancy Job

Michael Gregoire, CEO of CA Technologies, an IT management software company, admits that his favorite interview question is a bit Machiavellian. It never fails to catch people off-guard, and “really reveals what they think about their leadership style,” he says.

In theory, there is no right answer, but in practice the role they’re interviewing for determines which way the CEO leans. In a collaborative environment, it’s better to be respected than feared; at a business unit that’s struggling, the stick may be more useful than the carrot.

“Why are you here today?”

Why are you here today?-Fancy Job

It’s an incredibly open-ended question, but when he asks it in interviews, Gordon Wilson, CEO of Travelport, a UK-based, Nasdaq-listed software firm, is looking for a very specific answer.

“I’m surprised how many times people talk about the benefit of the job from their point of view, versus the benefit that they’re going to bring to the company,” Wilson says. This helps him judge whether a candidate is joining a team or whether “it’s all about me.”

Presumably, he’s looking for an even split between the benefits to the company and the person? “At least!” he says. “I’d want 75-25: if you benefit the enterprise the personal thing will come.”

“What’s your biggest dream in life?”

What’s your biggest dream in life?-Fancy Job

A little homework goes a long way before a job interview. This certainly applies when facing Zhang Xin, co-founder and CEO of SOHO China, a commercial property developer.

When she asks candidates her go-to interview question, they should know—given her background—that no answer is too ambitious. After all, the self-made billionaire built her empire essentially from scratch, saving money from work at a grim garment factory in Hong Kong to pay for an education in England that led to her starting what quickly became China’s largest office developer.

Needless to say, when Zhang says that she is attracted to people who are “free spirited,” she means it.

“I ask how they were treated.”

I ask how they were treated.-Fancy Job

Not the candidates, but people who would have encountered the candidates on their way to an interview with Rick Goings, CEO of direct-sales pioneer Tupperware.

“I talk to the driver who brought them in from the airport, my assistant, and the receptionist who welcomed them. I ask how they were treated. There you learn how this person acts,” Goings says.

What he’s after is a sense of the “non-cognitive skills” that good leaders need to manage and inspire teams. To this end, he’ll meet with job candidates to ask them questions, of course, but he finds that equally valuable information comes from other sources who’ve vetted candidates through everyday interactions with them.

“What is your favorite property in Monopoly, and why?”

What is your favorite property in Monopoly, and why?-Fancy Job

Ken Moelis, the founder and CEO of Moelis & Co, an investment bank, likes to lob this unexpected question at freshly minted MBAs interviewing for mid-level positions.

It’s a “great way to hear how people think of risks and rewards,” he says.

“Tell me about when you failed.”

Tell me about when you failed-Fancy Job

Dissecting past failures is something of an obsession for CEOs, who focus on it to look for resilience, creativity, and humility in candidates. A person who can speak openly, honestly, and specifically about their personal shortcomings is attractive, but only if they can also explain how they are “a better person, partner, leader, and manager as a result,” says Roger Crandall, CEO of American insurance group MassMutual.

“What’s the biggest mistake you made and what have you learned from it?”

What’s the biggest mistake you made and what have you learned from it?-Fancy Job

Davide Serra, founder and CEO of Algebris, a London-based hedge fund takes a similar personal approach, asking candidates, this question.

The Logic being – For finance firms in particular, there is danger lurking around every corner. To this end, company bosses want managers around who won’t panic when things go wrong and are self-aware enough to recognize if their own actions might be the source of the problem. Vague answers in which candidates only paint themselves as bystanders to failures foisted upon them by outside forces do not build confidence.

“Talk to me about when you were seven or eight. Who did you want to be?”

Talk to me about when you were seven or eight. Who did you want to be?-Fancy Job

Barbara Byrne, vice chairman of investment banking at Barclays, admits that she’s “not a technical interviewer.” By the time a candidate gets an interview with her, she assumes that they’re smart. But can they pass her “airplane test”? That is, “Could I sit on a plane from New York to LA with you and not be bored out of my mind?”

Childhood dreams, she says, are a good conversation-starter for such a long haul.

“Some people can be there right away,” Byrne says. “You connect to the real person.”

The wine list test

The wine list test-Fancy job

It’s a similar story for Charles Phillips, CEO of Infor, an enterprise software company based in New York. “Anyone can fake it for 45 minutes,” he says.

Instead of a traditional interview for senior roles at his company, the CEO takes a candidate out to dinner with a handful of other senior execs. “I like to watch how they handle themselves in an unstructured environment,” he says.

A key test comes early in the meal: “I give them the wine list.” The person has to convince the group that they know a lot about wine, or pretend that they do, or just pick the most expensive bottle, or ask for help. How they choose and how successful they are in explaining themselves is one part of the test. Also: “You watch how they treat the waiter,” Phillips notes. “I love that.”

Another test comes at the end: “We always surprise them by asking, ‘Tell me a joke.’” This reveals whether someone has a sense of humor, of course, but also whether they can think on their feet in a strange and unfamiliar situation.

Walk the talk

Walk the talk-Fancy Job

Speaking of relaxed, the high-strung won’t fare well in front of Atul Kunwar, president and CTO of Tech Mahindra, an outsourcing provider. He doesn’t have a go-to interview question as such, but lets a candidate’s professed passions guide the conversation.

A candidate’s hobbies and interests are not fodder for small talk. When one job seeker mentioned that he was a keen singer, “I told him to sing for us, a very senior panel of executives,” Kunwar recalls. His assessment:

He had the gumption to do it, and he sang very well. To me, it meant he was passionate and able to build skills on his own. And when the crunch time came, he had no hang-ups. We need people with that sort of belief and passion.

Know What Your Dreams Mean?!

0

“ It’s a dream…but that doesn’t mean it’s not real” goes a line from Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows.

Well, a research at Dream Reflectors at DreamsCloud, proves exactly that. Suzanne Bergmann, a licensed social worker and professional dream researcher at it, adds “Dreams are a universal language, creating often elaborate images out of emotional concepts.” Bergmann, who is part of the experienced team of that provide feedback and insight about dreams, has identified 14 common images found in dreams posted to the DreamsCloud user-generated dreams database.

The following is a list of the most common dreams and what they imply. They as the researcher adds, have  generally accepted meaning.

Being Chased

Being Chased -Dreams

This is one of the most commonly reported dreams. Mostly because the anxiety we feel in the dream is so vivid, that it makes it easier for us to remember them. Often, the reason for these dreams comes not from the fear of actually being chased, but rather what we’re running from. Chase dreams help us to understand that we may not be addressing something in our waking lives that requires our attention.

Water

Water-Dreams

Water frequently represents our emotions or our unconscious minds. The quality of the water (clear vs. cloudy; calm vs. turbulent) often provides insight into how effectively we are managing our emotions.

Vehicles

Vehicles-Dreams

Whether a car, airplane, train or ship, the vehicles in our dream can reflect what direction we feel our life is taking, and how much control we think we have over the path ahead of us. Vehicles can give us the power to make a transition and envision ourselves getting to our destination — or highlight the obstacles we think we are facing and need to work through.

People

People-Dreams

Seeing other people in your dream often is a reflection of the different aspects of the self. The people in dreams can relate to characteristics that need to be developed. Specific people directly relate to existing relationships or interpersonal issues we need to work through. Dreaming of a lover, in particular, is frequently symbolic of an aspect of ourselves, from which we feel detached.

School/Classroom

School/Classroom-Dreams

It’s a very common situation for people in dreams to find themselves in a school or classroom, often confronted with a test that they aren’t prepared to take. This is a great example of a “dream pun” — the mind using a word or concept and giving it a different definition. The “lesson” or “test” we face inside the school or classroom is frequently one we need to learn from our past — which is one reason these dreams are often reported by people who have long since finished school.

Paralysis

Paralysis-Dreams

Unknown to most people, the body is actually encountering a form of paralysis during dreaming, which prevents it from physically performing the actions occurring in their dreams, therefore dreaming about paralysis frequently represents the overlap between the REM stage and waking stage of sleep. Dreaming about paralysis can also indicate that the dreamer feels he or she lacks control in their waking life.

Death

Death-Dreams

Although death is often perceived as negative, it’s often more directly related to dramatic change happening for the dreamer — the end of one thing, in order to make room for something new.

Flying

Flying -Dreams

Flying in a dream, and how effectively or poorly it’s done, relates to how much control we feel we have in our lives, and whether we are confident and able to achieve our goals. High flying is one of the most euphoric dreams imaginable, while flying or “skimming” low to the ground or being caught in obstacles like power lines can be immensely frustrating.

Falling

Falling-Dreams

Not all falling dreams are scary and negative. Some dreamers report a type of slow falling that indicates serenity and the act of letting go. Often, falling uncontrollably from a great height indicates something in waking our life that feels very much out of control.

Nudity

Nudity -Dreams

Emotional or psychological exposure or vulnerability is very often expressed in dreams through nudity. The body part that’s exposed can give more insight into the emotion that our dreams are helping us to understand.

Baby

Baby-Dreams

Dreaming of a baby often represents something new: It might be a new idea, new project at work, new development or the potential for growth in a specific area of our waking life.

Food

Food -Dreams

Food symbolizes energy, knowledge or nourishment and is directly related to our intellect, emotions and spirituality. Food can also be a manifestation of idioms like, “food for thought,” and reveal that we may be “hungry” for new information and insights.

House

House-Dreams

Houses frequently represent the dreamer’s mind. Different levels or rooms may relate to different aspects of the individual dreamer and different degrees of consciousness. The basement often represents what has been neglected, or what the dreamer is not aware of in his or her waking life, while bedrooms relate to intimate thoughts and feelings — those closest to the dreamer’s core self.

Google Public Alerts To Offer Flood Information In India via Maps and Google Now!

0

By Lalith Vamsee

Technology giant Google will make public emergency alerts for floods available in India as part of its efforts to make critical information more accessible around natural disasters.

After the recent spurt in natural disasters in the sub-continent, Google has activated a public alert system that would offer valuable information on the water level across 170 areas in India.

Google Public Alerts

Through a tie-up with the flood forecasting network of India, Google users could now receive real time information on the water level of rivers across India. Since Google now has access to this information from Indian authorities, users could get this information across Google Now cards, Google Mobile App, Google Maps, as well as the Google Public Alerts homepage.

According to a post on the official Google India blog, Payal Patel, Product Manager and Kiran Bapna, Head, New Business Development, Google India expressed their gratitude to the Central Water Commission “for making their flood alerts available as well as the India Meteorological Department for their cyclone alerts.” The post went on to add that Google aims to help more people prepare for natural disasters with the objective of protecting more lives.

It aims to do so by making critical and life-saving information more widely available to people around India.

Google Public Alerts

Recently, during the Chennai floods, and also during the earthquake in Manipur, Facebook had activated its Safety Check, which enabled users to mark themselves as safe if they were in the vicinity of the disaster. Similarly, Google had also enabled mechanisms that let users find information on the whereabouts of their loved ones during natural calamities.

Valentine’s Day Gifts? Wirally to the Rescue!

0

Possible thoughts in everyone’s head on Valentine’s Day:

“Roses are red,

Violets are blue,

Valentine’s is around the corner,

And I don’t know what gift to get you?”

[Singles please turn away. Following content may make you gag].

Valentine’s Day, the only time of the year when you can surely say, “love is in the air”… and so are the hormones… and the PDA (Public Display of Affection). Also, it is one of those horribly anxious times of the year where you have no clue about what to buy for your significant other. So, we folks, here at Wirally, decided to make your life easier by suggesting you a few items, that are simple, yet loving and memorable enough to be considered as gifts. And no, those items don’t include a box of assorted chocolates, we are different. So below are a few gifts you can gift your man or your lady.

For Him:

  • 1. A Crate of Food

A Crate of Food-Valentine's day

Now, this is something different and unique. Your man surely would not be able to handle a gift which is all girly and extremely lovey – dovey, (come on, give his testosterone some credit and gift him something he will definitely like. Besides, who doesn’t like food?). So what you can do is, buy a crate / box, line it up with some colorful, crafty, bits and pieces of crepe paper, just to make the bottom softer, and after that place all the sweet and savory edibles that he likes. The edibles can include, a cupcake (well frosted, of course), Nutella & Go, caramel popcorn, mini hotdog wraps and beer. Et voila, you have a gift basket that guarantees you enough affection for the entire day or week or month. The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. *wink wink*

  • 2. Body Wash

Body Wash-Valentine's day

Oh, no no no, we aren’t talking about the regular Axe or Park Avenue type of body wash. It is Valentine’s Day, you need to go out of your way to make it special. Every guy loves smelling good (insider secret), so why not get him a body wash (or a casket of them)? Check out The Body Shop, Lush, or Bath and Body Works. These stores have strong scented body washes made especially for men. Pick out the ones you love (and he would like to use). Get him smelling like a knight!

  • 3. Cologne

cologne-Valentine's day

He will love this one. How do we know? That’s because, you will pick out a perfume that you would not be able to resist and this way, every time he applies it, you would not be able to stop yourself from getting close and getting a whiff of it.

  • 4. Memory Box

Memory Box-Valentine's day

If your man is the hopeless romantic type, this one will definitely do the trick. Why not decorate a box (you can buy a decorated one, but handmade has an entirely different affect on men), and fill it up with memories from the previous year? Maybe write a small note with each of them. The box can include stuff like, your first photo together, the tickets you won at the arcade, a bowling score card, almost anything. He’d definitely go through this every now and then.

  • 5. Gamer? Video Games, Thumb Stick / Analog Stick Toppers

Gamer? Video Games, Thumb Stick / Analog Stick Toppers-Valentine's day

Oh, how much would your man love you, if you gift him something related to video games! Get him a newly released video game, or a game that he had been wanting since a long time, and if you don’t know which game to gift, you can definitely get him personalized toppers for his thumb stick / analog stick (for the girls who don’t know what thumb stick / analog stick is, it is the long, wriggly things on his controller, which moves in circles). He will have a swag – filled controller to show off to all his friends then!

For Her:

  • 1. Playlist

Always remember boys, music has a MAJOR effect on the mind and heart of a girl. it is something that would make her feel the way you want her to. Kshanam : A Crisp And Gripping Trailer That’s Creating Buzz!!

0

By Lalith Vamsee

The trailer of Kshanam was launched recently by Mahesh Babu and Samantha who were shooting for PVP Cinema’s Brahmotsavam.

But, that is not the reason for all the buzz on social media. It’s the gripping content in the trailer that is raising eye-brows. The trailer looks crisp and to the point unlike other stereotypes we generally see in a Telugu cinema. Looks like the director and actor duo, Ravikanth Perupu and Adivi Shesh, who also happened to pen the story together are quite confident with their output (their product speaks, man!).

The way Telugu cinema is marching towards making these hatke movies from the last 2-3 years is truly a welcoming change.

And we are not going to reveal anything about the trailer and its content, because it is very much worth the 1.59 minutes of your time on social media. Here check out the trailer, see for yourself and be amazed!

Oh!! Did we tell you that Anasuya too has a role in this??

Kshanam is produced by Param V Potluri and Kavin Anne under the banner PVP Cinema.

Kudos and Good luck!!

Among the pictures most noticeably we have Bran (all grown up and handsome) standing up (in visions where he’s visiting the past alongside the Three-Eyed Raven, played by Max von Sydow). Arya is blind thanks to her Red God Curse, (courtesy The Faceless Man). Jaime Lannister has to bring his dead “niece” Myrcella home to Cersei (the poor girl had a horrible death at Dorne and Ellaria sand) and King Tommen, who are not thrilled. Ramsay Bolton has some thinking to do, while Theon (Reek) and Sansa are scourging somewhere. A sombre looking Sam, somewhere in Braavos And looks like Margaery is still among the Sparrows and lastly, Khaleesi seeming utterly clueless as Tyrion tries to placate the situation in Mereen.

23 Logic Bending Paintings Will Leave Your Mind Blown !!

0
The Paintings that you see, (and cannot probably unseen..!) are by the famous Canadian artist, Rob Gonsalves. His works are most recognizable for their overtly magical themes, magical realism if you please, ingeniously thought out optical illusions. One image seeps into another and comes back again full circle, playing with our minds by creating an vivid and irrational dream worlds.
Gonsalves has always been interested in painting. By the age of twelve, he had already demonstrated masterful technique and a deeper understanding of architecture and perspectives . Later on his calling whispered through, as a result of his association with works of Salvador Dali and René Magritte. He chose for surrealism thematics himself and has never looked back since.

AS A CARING FATHER AND A WITTY VILLAIN – NANNAKU PREMATHO

AS A CARING FATHER AND A WITTY VILLAIN - NANNAKU PREMATHO-Jagapathi Babu

With Srimanthudu, JB already set a bar for the roles of fathers. In Nannaku Prematho, he just added a flavour to it with his villainous nature.

There are many other movies where his versatility can be notices. Movies like Jai Bolo Telangana, Samudram, Maavichiguru, Dongata are some which can be justified only by JB.

15 Bollywood Movies That Have Been Banned In Pakistan

0

By Hemanth Nukala

India and Pakistan had/have similarities and dissimilarities in many aspects. One of the similar part comes by the film making and publishing. Indians and Pakistanis are like the classic Bollywood twins with some slight differences. They were brought up in very different environments, leading them to have very different sensibilities, contrasting likes and opposite dislikes.

Wonder what will happen when the siblings finally face each other? Utter chaos! But at some aspects there is always a clash between the films of India and Pakistan so we have handpicked few Bollywood films which Pakistan banned for a variety of reasons:

Khiladi 786

Khiladi 786-Movies That Have been banned in Pakistan

Akshay Kumar may be the one of the leading actor of Bollywood but Pakistan wouldn’t buy his movie KHILADI 786 especially if presented with number ‘786’. So when Khiladi 786’s poster was launched in Pakistan, it immediately led to banning the film because of the religious significance of numerals ‘786’ among Muslims. Considered very sacred to Islam, the usage of the number in a comedy film was deemed to be hurtful for Islamic sentiments and therefore led to a ban on the promo and eventually the complete film got scrapped in Pakistan.

Agent Vinod

Agent Vinod-Movies That Have been banned in Pakistan

The fact that Agent Vinod tanked without a trace in India is a different story but the Saif Ali Khan spy film didn’t even get to come out in Pakistan. Agent Vinod got banned just days before its scheduled release because of its plot where Pakistan ISIS team as the anti social element in INDIA. The main reason on banning this movie was that the film pictured that the people of Pakistan organisations supported a nuclear strike in Delh. No wonder, a ban was always in the calling.

The Dirty Picture

The Dirty Picture-Movies That Have been banned in Pakistan

DIRTY PICTURE – the name of movie made itself banned in Pakistan. If a movie releases with an ‘A’ certificate in India, chances are high the same movie might not see the light of the day in Pakistan, ever. So when Vidya Balan plotted as Indian actress Silk Smitha in This Dirty Picture, it was too much to handle for the Pakistani censor board and the movie was outrightly termed bold and vulgar and got banned in Pakistan.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan

Jab Tak Hai Jaan-Movies That Have been banned in Pakistan

Jab Tak Hai Jaan saw Shah Rukh Khan play an army officer in the Indian Army’s bomb disposal squad. And where there is Indian army in a Bollywood movie, trouble is not far away in Pakistan. The Yash Chopra film was snapped off in Pakistan as soon as the trailers hit the TV screens. The movie got banned owing to certain dialogues which hinted at the Pak army. However, it took Yash Chopra to use some clout to finally make his movie see the light of day in Pakistan.

Tere Bin Laden

Tere Bin Laden-Movies That Have been banned in Pakistan

The name itself expalins that it is releated to the one of the most known person OSAMA BIN LADEN. Pakistan banned a Bollywood movie starring their own export to India, singer-actor Ali Zafar. Tere Bin Laden was banned in Pakistan because it showed up with the controversial issue of slain Al-Qaeda head Osama Bin Laden and hit them where it hurts the most.

The light-hearted movie was accused of containing vulgar and objectionable dialogues, abuses and derogatory remarks and was also labelled as anti-law enforcing agencies of Pakistan. The censor board in Pakistan felt that the movie could give extremists a false idea and could lead to riots and attacks, hence the movie was banned in Pakistan.

Ek Tha Tiger

Ek Tha Tiger-Movies That Have been banned in Pakistan

Another Eid release to court trouble in Pakistan was Ek Tha Tiger. The plot of the movie dealt with altercations between the intelligence agencies of India and Pakistan i.e RAW and ISI respectively. No wonder, the Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif-starrer spy flick was declared to not to be promoted or published in PAKISTAN. Elaborating on the issue, the vice-chairman of the Pakistan censor board, Muhammed Ashraf Gondal said, “We have a strict criteria due to which films that have themes that touch on anti-terrorism and are against Pakistan’s national institutions or security agencies ultimately have to be censored because they are against the national interest.”

Chennai Express

Chennai Express-Movies That Have been banned in Pakistan

Shah Rukh Khan might rule the hearts of people in the kingdom across the border, but that didn’t stop distributors and exhibitors in Pakistan from banning his latest train ride, Chennai Express to halt at any station in Pakistan. Shah Rukh’s movie was scheduled to release on the festival of Eid along with 4 Pakistani films – Josh, Ishq Khuda, War and Mera Naam Afridi. However, keeping the interest of Lollywood in mind, the movie was banned from releasing on Eid and was scheduled for a different date of release.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag-Movies That Have been banned in Pakistan

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag is an inspiring tale of a common man who rises above all odds to fulfill his dreams and goes on to be known as the ‘Flying Sikh of India’. So far, so good. However, what didn’t go down well with the censor board in Pakistan was that the movie allegedly ‘does not portray Pakistan in good light’, as it travels through the troubled past of India-Pakistan partition. Lollywood also had an issue with the trailer of the movie featuring the dialogue: ‘ Mujhse nahin hoga. Main Pakistan nahin jaaunga ‘, which ultimately led to the banning of the film

David

David-Movies That Have been banned in Pakistan

Bejoy Nambiar is known for his dark cinematic narratives like Shaitan , however it was David which caused problems across the border due to its controversial content . Like India, Pakistan too has some basic criteria for movies to fulfill at which David Failed‘. Justifying the ban on the film, the chairman of the Central Board of Film Censors of Pakistan, Rai Akbar added, “There were several issues with the film but our main point was that the film was not suitable for viewing in Pakistan.”

Raanjhanaa

Raanjhanaa-Movies That Have been banned in Pakistan

The most surprising entry into the list of banned Bollywood movies would easily be Raanjhanaa. The movie which narrates the journey of one sided love of a Hindu boy in pursuit of a Muslim girl, could not impress the censor board in Pakistan. The reason which the movie got banned would be silly but its true. The movie worked well in India, but Pakistan had issues with the treatment of Sonam’s character (a Muslim) who falls in love with two Hindu guys and hence got the film to be banned all across Pakistan. The censor board felt that the film was against the rights of religion in Pakistan and would rise to a protest.

Lahore

Lahore-Movies That Have been banned in Pakistan

Whenever India and Pakistan meet in a sports battle, sparks are bound to fly. Lahore dealt with the political rivalry of India-Pakistan and made an effort to make the two countries bond in the kickboxing arena. However, the Pakistani censor board could not digest some scenes and dialogues in Sanjay Puran Chauhan’s film and decided to ban the movie altogether in Pakistan.

DELLY BELLY

DELLY BELLY-Movies That Have been banned in Pakistan

Delly Belly is a 2011 Indian black comedy film written by Akshat Verma and directed by Abhinay Deo. It stars Imran Khan, Kunaal Roy Kapur, Vir Das, Poorna Jagannathan and Shenaz Treasurywala. While the original version was in English. this movie was unable to make the view in front of Pakistanis because too adult language and censor board of pakistan

HAIDER

HAIDER-Movies That Have been banned in Pakistan

One of the top film of India of genre crime and drama based on SHAKESPEARE HAMLET just modified into Indian theme reflecting the Kashmiri conflicts between India and Pakistan. As there are few scenes which includes the cruel activities in Pakistan, so the movie was unable to screen in Pakistan. The movie was able to get high regards and number of awards for the story and lineup but unable to show its power in Pakistan field.

BABY

BABY-Movies That Have been banned in Pakistan

Once again Akshay kumar’s Spy Action thriller film in 2015 which reflects about the fictitious team of fighters for the response of Mumbai Attacks was just blocked its way to make its mark on Pakistan film lovers. This movie is directed by Neeraj pandey in which there are few anti-elements regarding the negative part in Pakistan.

NEERJA

NEERJA-Movies That Have been banned in Pakistan

The latest inclusion into this list is real incidents during the hijacking of the Pan Am Flight 73 at the Karachi airport in 1986. The film has been banned even before it was submitted to the censor board. The film that revolves around a Air Hostess being shot by terrorist was initially approved to by the Ministry of Commerce to import the film, but has now changed the decision.

So the Pakistan censor board restricted the release of film in the country.

Shashi Tharoor : India is fast becoming a superpower, says Shashi Tharoor — not just through trade and politics, but through “soft” power, its ability to share its culture with the world through food, music, technology, Bollywood. He argues that in the long run it’s not the size of the army that matters as much as a country’s ability to influence the world’s hearts and minds.

Harsha Bhogle : The tale of a major global cultural phenomenon: Cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle describes the spectacular arrival of fast-paced 20-20 cricket as it parallels the rise of modern India. He traces the game from its sleepy English roots to the current world of celebrity owners and million-dollar player contracts.

Kiran Bedi : Kiran Bedi managed one of India’s toughest prisons — and used a new focus on prevention and education to turn it into a center of learning and meditation. She shares her thoughts on crime and punishment from the stage at TEDWomen.

DevDutt Patnaik : Devdutt Pattanaik takes an eye-opening look at the myths of India and of the West — and shows how these two fundamentally different sets of beliefs about God, death and heaven help us consistently misunderstand one another.

Nandan Nilekani : Nandan Nilekani, visionary CEO of outsourcing pioneer Infosys, explains four brands of ideas that will determine whether India can continue its recent breakneck progress.

Arunachalam Muruganantham : When he realized his wife had to choose between buying family meals and buying her monthly “supplies,” Arunachalam Muruganantham vowed to help her solve the problem of the sanitary pad. His research got very very personal — and led him to a powerful business model.

Sunitha Krishnan : Sunitha Krishnan has dedicated her life to rescuing women and children from sex slavery, a multimilion-dollar global market. In this courageous talk, she tells three powerful stories, as well as her own, and calls for a more humane approach to helping these young victims rebuild their lives.

Pranav Mistry : Pranav Mistry demos several tools that help the physical world interact with the world of data, including a deep look at his SixthSense device and a new, paradigm-shifting paper “laptop.” In an onstage Q&A, Mistry says he’ll open-source the software behind SixthSense, to open its possibilities to all.

Sekhar Kapur :  Where does creative inspiration spring from? At TEDIndia, Hollywood/Bollywood director Shekhar Kapur (“Elizabeth,” “Mr. India”) pinpoints his source of creativity: sheer, utter panic. He shares a powerful way to unleash your inner storyteller.

Bunker Roy :  In Rajasthan, India, an extraordinary school teaches rural women and men , many of them illiterate, to become solar engineers, artisans, dentists and doctors in their own villages. It’s called the Barefoot College, and its founder, Bunker Roy, explains how it works.

Arvind Gupta : At the Ted Conference, Arvind Gupta shares simple yet stunning plans for turning trash into seriously entertaining, well-designed toys that kids can build themselves — while learning basic principles of science and design.

Lalitesh Katragadda : As of 2005, only 15 percent of the world was mapped. This slows the delivery of aid after a disaster, and hides the economic potential of unused lands and unknown roads. In this short talk, Google’s Lalitesh Katragadda demos Map Maker, a group map-making tool that people around the globe are using to map their world.

Pawan Sinha : Pawan Sinha details his ground-breaking research into how the brain’s visual system develops. Sinha and his team provide free vision-restoring treatment to children born blind, and then study how their brains learn to interpret visual data. The work offers insights into neuroscience, engineering and even autism.

Raghava KK : With endearing honesty and vulnerability, Raghava KK tells the colourful tale of how art has taken his life to new places, and how life experiences in turn have driven his multiple reincarnations as an artist — from cartoonist to painter, media darling to social outcast, and son to father.

…………And many more endless hours of academic and knowledge based talks remain hosted on Ted.com

Sikh Woman’s Poetic Take On Australia’s Racism Is Pure Gold!

0
Sikh Woman

I’m not the one that’s a freak, I’m fully Sikh

And that boggled everyone worldwide. Sukhjit Kaur Khalsa, had just delivered a poem that delivered the most powerful statement against the prevalent racism in Australia. It has always been difficult for the immigrants to voice out their opinions and concerns on a public platform. But Ms Khalsa, a 21-year-old feminist activist, achieved just that. When a first generation Sikh woman captures the daily injustices people of her community faced, in an incredible spoken-word poem, there is nothing much left for us to do, but to stand up and take notice, applauding as we do it.

On 8 February, Sukhjit Kaur Khalsa appeared at Australia’s Got Talent and decided to recite an SWP that painted a hard-hitting picture of what the Sikh community faced in the country.

Khalsa, used dark humour in her poetry to leave the judges spellbound. She started off by asking the audience what makes them Australian, and then painted a heart-breaking picture of the bigotry faced by the Sikh Community.

“When you’ve been given such a loud voice, and when you have the confidence, you need to speak up for the voiceless” , she said in a recent interview with a daily for the Indian community in Australia where she also admitted she wasn’t always an outgoing personality. “Humour and satire; that’s the thing Australia uses to get the messages across.” she said

Catch the video below and the hard hitting poem following that, which will leave you in awe..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAlVYkXToAc

“If you’re not in Australia, ‘where the bloody hell are ya?’ Remember the Bingle jingle, inviting the world to mix and mingle?

Where a fair go was your welcome mat, unless you’re of caramel descent and then ain’t nobody got time for that.
You see, rocking up for my first job at Coles, was like a scene from Border Patrol.

What makes you Australian?

Is it a Southern Cross Tattoo or wombat stew crumbled with a Dunkaroo?

Do you think of a time when Australia’s learnt to share and care and dare to wear its heart on its face, fully aware that most of us in this place are far from fair, but brown and black and slow to attack?

But quick to embrace a warm Australia.

I’m confused as to why, on Australia Day, when the night sky spews bigot bile, I’m left traumatised.

When a teen rips off my uncle’s turban, I’m an enraged flame of pain and shame and sorrow, for tomorrow when a hooning ute throws a rotten peach at my dad and screams ‘go home, ya bloody terrorist.’

I plead to you Lara , where the bloody hell are we?

My people, the Sikhs, came here in 1860 with camels and carts and courageous hearts and look at the maxi Taxi, we’re still driving and steering this country in offices and hospitals and even on stage.

So when people tell me and my family to go home to where we came from, I reply with a smile, tongue-in-cheek, ‘mate, we’ve been right at home for the past 150 years!’

I’m not the one that’s a freak, I’m fully Sikh.”

Mukesh Bansal’s Farewell Letter To FlipKart Employees Is Heart Warming!!

0

This letter by Mukesh Bansal to his employees is stuff of inspiration and admiration..!!

“Hi All – My incredible journey with Myntra and Flipkart comes to an end. It has been amazing nine years filled with lot of learning, privilege to work with outstanding people and chance to participate in building future industry of India that will impact hundreds of millions of people.

When Ashutosh and I started Myntra in 2007, we never dreamt in our wildest imagination that we will come this far. What’s even more amazing is that it seems we are just getting started and the journey ahead for Flipkart/Myntra is going to be even more fascinating and at the scale that India has never seen before.

Today, Myntra is by far the best fashion destination in the country and is run by a strong, passionate leadership team led by Ananth. I am confident that this team will make Myntra an iconic company which will change the face of fashion industry in India. Myntra is leading the industry with premium service, differentiated shopping experience, unique in-house brands and lot of progress towards achieving profitability. I am particularly proud of the culture at Myntra which is a huge source of strength and differentiation and inspiration for entire ecosystem.

My two years with Flipkart has been nothing short of fairy tale! Sachin and Binny have built a very unique company that has practically created the eCommerce industry in India and consistently led in innovation like COD, eKart, 30 Day Returns and mCommerce. The Audacity, Flipkart first and Bias for action have been cornerstone of the Flipkart culture that enables us to dream big and consistently beat our own expectations. We are well on our way to build India’s first real tech company, drive genuine innovation and transform commerce in India through technology.

I have enjoyed every minute of my time with Flipkart and felt inspired every moment. In last two years, we have established very strong leadership in Fashion, transformed the business into Marketplace model, increased our Smartphone market share to 60% and built differentiators in Large. We have pivoted to completely mobile first company with 60% mCommerce market-share for the group. We have embarked on the journey to be a strong product/tech organisation with very high caliber talent. Last year, we set out to build the best leadership team in India and we have done exactly that. With the caliber of this team, I am very confident that Flipkart is in safe hands and this team is eminently capable of charting the course for next phase of Flipkart journey.

I am very excited with Binny coming in as CEO and my transition will enable him to work directly with CP leadership. Binny’s ability to drive execution rigour, objectivity and long term vision for Flipkart will give us best shot in dealing with the challenges that lie ahead. Binny, along with the leadership and the amazing talent pool at Flipkart will do justice to any mandate and continue to push the boundaries for eCommerce/Internet businesses in India and beyond. I will transition my role to Binny and will be available as long as required to ensure a smooth and successful transition. With this team in place and the momentum on multiple fronts, CP is in great hands and I feel confident that this is right time for me to move on to next phase.

Even though my journey comes to an end, I will always be deeply emotionally connected to Flipkart and Myntra. I will continue to be available from outside as sounding board and mentor to the team. Last nine years have completely transformed me as a person and I will cherish every moment. The hardest part will be to part ways with all the incredible people I had the privilege to get to know and work with. I will seek you out over next few weeks to say my good-byes in person and to celebrate what we have achieved together.

I am looking forward to a long break after my transition and catching up on my reading, travel and fitness. I will be spending bunch of time with my kids and catch up on all the fun I have missed with them all these years.

With a heavy heart but lots of excitement for the future, it is time for me to sign-off! Wish you all the very best in building something that all of India will be proud of and which will be the role model of the potential of new India built through entrepreneurship and technology.

My sincere thanks and regards, Mukesh Bansal”

The McDonald’s McBurger…..Doesn’t Decompose!!

0

Jennifer Lovdahl, an Alaskan resident, in order to test the composting quality of the food, decided to save a McDonald’s meal she bought in 2010. “It’s been 6 years since I bought this “Happy Meal” at McDonald’s,” she writes on Facebook.

As proof of her work, Lovdahl posted two pictures – one of the bag with the receipt that reads 8 January, 2010 and another of the meal.

McDonald

And guess what…..It never decomposed. For 6 effing years.

“It’s been sitting at our office this whole time and has not rotted, melded, or decomposed at all!!! It smells only of cardboard,” Lovdahl says of the four immortal chicken nuggets and fries.

Lovdahl, who is owner/operator at Balanced Health Chiropractic, basing on the eye opening incident urges people to eat “real fast food” like apples, bananas and carrots.

Thank you I’ll pass on McMeal, Thank You very much..!!

7 Reasons That Make Fitoor A Must Watch

0

Fitoor (Passion)  is an upcoming Indian romantic drama film directed by Abhishek Kapoor and produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur and Disney. It is based on Charles Dickens’ novel Great Expectations. The film features Aditya Roy Kapur, Katrina Kaif and Tabu in leading roles.

A Great Book leads to a Great Movie!

Fitoor

Great Expectations is Charles Dickens’s thirteenth novel and his penultimate completed novel. The widely acclaimed classic depicts the personal growth and artistic development of an orphan nicknamed Pip ( To be played by Aditya Roy Kapur ) . The novel includes , the eccentric Miss Havisham ( To be played by Tabu ), the beautiful but cold Estella ( To be played by Katrina Kaif ) as the women who inspire and destroy Pip through his journey

A few cards up the sleeve

Fitoor

Though he hasn’t been shown in the trailers, yet, Ajay Devgn has been confirmed to play the role of Aditya Roy Kapur’s mentor in the film. Also joining Ajay Devgn in the under wrap billed cast, would be Aditi Rao Hydari as well. Her role remains still any one’s guess.

Because she’s worth it!!

Fitoor-Katrina kaif

Katrina Kaif’s red hair has been a source of envy ever since the gorgeous actress debuted them on the red carpet last year. The Phantom actress got her mane coloured for her upcoming movie Fitoor opposite Aditya Roy Kapur. According to a report on MissMalini, the makers reportedly had to shell out a whopping sum of Rs 55 lakhs for Kat’s mane. The report states that apparently Katrina couldn’t find any local professional who could give her mane the desired shade of red for the character. So, she ended up recruiting a London-based hair colouring expert.

Miss Havisham got replaced!!

Fitoor-Tabu

Two days after the film’s shoot was completed, Rekha bowed out of Fitoor, after viewing the final rushes, reported Mumbai Mirror. Rekha, who was to play the Indian version of the lovelorn eccentric Miss Havisham in Fitoor, was displeased with the final rushes of  her parts in the film and cited that she wouldn’t be able to give it her best.

As Fitoor-nate as it gets

Fitoor

According to a source, “The film has an intense kissing scene between Katrina and Aditya. The kissing scene is almost three minutes long. It has been shot extremely aesthetically.” The lip lock scene is in one of the songs in the film, and was shot in the presence of very few people.

A Sultan In Need!

Fitoor

Salman’s close friend Katrina Kaif has sought Salman’s advice over the content of her new film Fitoor. Says a source in the know, “Fitoor is Katrina’s first film in 2016. It’s also a film that is meant to consolidate her career after the recent upheavals in her life. And Salman is there to help her get over this difficult period.”

Pashmina as it takes..!!

Fitoor

For the song Pashmina both the actors have worked really hard, the actress said they gave up their Christmas and New Year holidays to focus on this particular song, that is why is it nothing less of perfection. They even broke some bones and had a few injuries while they were busy practicing for this beautiful track. Although Katrina got injured during the shooting of this song, her dance moves are too real to be judged

Fitoor

Here’s wishing Fitoor brings back the passion of romance like never before. And then, my friends, we’ll have the perfect Valentine’s weekend.

Principal photography of the film began in Kashmir in November 2014.The film is scheduled for release on 12 February 2016.

A Painter Who Cycled Continents For Love : A True Love Story!!

0

As a schoolboy growing up in a village in the eastern Indian state of Orissa, PK Mahanandia, often faced discrimination from upper-caste students because he was a Dalit – considered to be at the bottom of India’s caste hierarchy.

Whenever he felt sad, his mother would tell him that according to his horoscope, he would someday marry a woman “whose zodiac sign would be Taurus, she would come from a far away land, she would be musical and would own a jungle”.

PK Mahanandia and Ms Von Schedvin-A True Love Story

Many years later, PK Mahanandia, an artist by then,  met Charlotte Von Schedvin on a winter evening in Delhi in 1975 when she asked him to draw her portrait. Ms Von Schedvin was visiting India as a tourist when she spotted Mr Mahanandia in Delhi’s Connaught Place district. He had made a name for himself as a sketch artist and enjoyed a good reputation in the local press.

Intrigued by his claim of “making a portrait in 10 minutes”, she decided to give it a try. But she wasn’t impressed with the result and decided to come back the next day. The next day sadly, proved no better.

So when he met Ms Von Schedvin the next day, he immediately remembered his mother’s predictions and asked her if she owned a jungle. Ms Von Schedvin, whose family comes from Swedish nobility, replied that she did own a forest and added that not only was she “musical” (she liked to play the piano) her zodiac sign was also Taurus.

PK Mahanandia and Ms Von Schedvin-A True Love Story

“It was an inner voice that said to me that she was the one. During our first meeting we were drawn to each other like magnets. It was love at first sight,” Mr Mahanandia told the BBC.

“I still don’t know what made me ask her the questions and then invite her for tea. I thought she would complain to the police.”

But her reaction turned out to be quite the opposite.

“I thought he was honest and wanted to know why he had asked me those questions,” Ms Von Schedvin told the BBC.

After several conversations, she agreed to visit Orissa with him. The first monument she saw there was the famous Konark Temple.

“I became emotional when PK showed me the Konark. I had this image of the temple stone wheel framed in my student room back in London, but I had no idea where this place actually was. And here I was standing in front of it.”

The two fell in love and returned to Delhi after spending a few days in his village.

“She wore a sari when she met my father for the first time. I still don’t know how she managed. With blessings from my father and family, we got married according to tribal tradition,” he said.

Ms Von Schedvin had driven to Delhi with her friends from Sweden along the famou hippie trail – crossing Europe, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan – to reach India in 22 days. She said goodbye to him to start her return journey, but made him promise that he would follow her to her home in the Swedish textile town of Boras.

PK Mahanandia and Ms Von Schedvin-A True Love Story

More than a year passed and the two kept in touch through letters.

What eventually followed was an epic bicycle journey from India to Europe – all for love. Mr Mahanandia however, did not have enough money to buy a plane ticket. So, he sold everything he owned, bought a bicycle and followed her along the same hippie trail.

His journey started on 22 January 1977 and he would cycle for around 70km (44 miles) every day.

“Art came to my rescue. I made portraits of people and some gave me money, while others gave me food and shelter,” he said. Mr Mahanandia remembers the world as being very different in the 1970s. For instance, he did not need a visa to enter most countries.

“Afghanistan was such a different country. It was calm and beautiful. People loved arts. And vast parts of the country were not populated,” he said.

He said that people understood Hindi in Afghanistan, but communication became a problem once he entered Iran. “Again art came to my rescue. I think love is the universal language and people understand that.”

“Those were different days. I think people had more free time then to entertain a wanderer like me.”

But did he ever feel tired?

“Yes, very often. My legs would hurt. But the excitement of meeting Charlotte and seeing new places kept me going,” he said.

PK Mahanandia and Ms Von Schedvin-A True Love Story

He finally reached Europe on 28 May – via Istanbul and Vienna, and then travelled to Gothenburg by train. After several cultural shocks and difficulties in impressing Ms Von Schedvin’s parents, the two finally got officially married in Sweden.

“I had no idea about European culture. It was all new to me, but she supported me in every step. She is just a special person. I am still in love just as I was in 1975,” he says.

PK Mahanandia and Ms Von Schedvin-A True Love Story

The 64-year-old now lives with Charlotte and their two children in Sweden and continues to work as an artist. But he still doesn’t understand “Why people think it was a big deal to cycle to Europe”.

“I did what I had to, I had no money but I had to meet her. I was cycling for love, but never loved cycling. It’s simple.”

Everything You Wanted To Know About The Indian Brave Heart, Lance Naik Hanumanthappa

0

The Indian Army, in a unprecedented  rescue effort saved Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad two days ago from below 35 feet of snow. Miraculously and very fortunately the brave soldier from Karnataka, had a faint yet an active breathe pattern when he was rescued, after being buried in -45°Celsius temperature for five days. His indomitable spirit in the face of confirmed death, made him the lone survivor of the avalanche that hit an Indian Army post in Siachen five days earlier.

Lance Naik Hanumanthappa

Unshakable Courage!

Lance Naik Hanumanthappa

Experts claim that 92% completely buried avalanche victims, can only be revived only if rescued within the first 15 minutes. And only 27% of them are alive after 35 minutes. Also, brain damage starts before death within 10 minutes for an average victim.

Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad given the facts, was rescued after five days of the avalanche. A continuous fight to constantly overcome altitude pulmonary oedema, cerebral oedema, hypothermia, hypoxia and frost-bite, of which he emerged victorious.

Defying Death and Destiny!!
Lance Naik Hanumanthappa

Hanumanthappa was trained at the toughest conditions known to man, Siachen. Acclimatization to local weather conditions made him a man beyond mortal. It is said to be possible that the pit where he was stuck had some air pocket which provided bare minimum oxygen supply. When a human body is inactive, heart rate is low and nutritional needs are limited too. Army veterans, doctors however feel its nothing short of a  miracle that Hanumanthappa has survived

A Rescue Mission Beyond Odds

Lance Naik Hanumanthappa

The Indian Army deployed deep penetration radars, tuned to detect metallic objects and heat signatures at a depth of 20 metres, and radio signal detectors.Radars hauled to the spot by IAF’s choppers at the  knocked down site,  detect teams assisted by rescue dogs, — the dogs, (Dot and Misha), did a tremendous job, Army said.

Once the fateful discovery was made, Special battery operated snow cutters had to be flown in using the helicopters through the cloudy covers.

And The Fight Goes On

Lance Naik Hanumanthappa

Presently, He has been placed on a ventilator to protect his airway and lungs in view of his comatose state. He remains extremely critical and is expected to have a stormy course in the next 24 to 48 hours due to the complications caused by re-warming and establishment of blood flow to the cold parts of the body,” the Army bulletin said.

“He has pneumonia and his investigations have revealed liver and kidney dysfunction. Fortunately there was no cold exposure related frostbite or bony injuries to him,” it said.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Lance Naik Hanumanthappa at the Army’s Research & Referral Hospital .

“No words are enough to describe endurance and indomitable spirit of Lance Naik Hanumanthappa. He’s an outstanding soldier,” Modi told ANI.

Lance Naik Hanumanthappa

We at Wirally wish him speedy recovery and extend our solidarity to the Indian BraveHeart’s family in praying for his life.

How To Piss Off Indians – The Baldy Way!!

0
marc Andreessen

Marc Andreessen, one of Silicon Valley’s highly reputed venture capitalists and an on-board directors of Facebook (That fact is kinda important here, so stick with us), is disappointed that Free Basics campaign in India met with unprecedented backlash (see !!). And that guy didn’t take the rejection well, by tweeting the following on his handle.

The founder of much celebrated VC firm Andreessen Horowitz (A16Z) thinks that the country would be doing so much better albiet in a brighter economic reality, if it remained under British rule and didn’t bother with the ‘anti-colonialist’ ideas like net neutrality. The economic catastrophe that Andreessen is referring to is the 30-odd years after the country gained independence in 1947, during which its growth rate was woefully low because of restrictive market policies and probably License Raj.

Andreessen’s notion of what is best for India is misguided and ill-informed, to say the least. Equally worrying is the fact that he believes India’s poorest don’t deserve the same open internet that he built his fortune on.

Twitter clearly wasn’t amused by Andreessen’s remark.
After deleting his tweet, Andreessen attempted to walk away from the train wreck of a discussion he fired up.

Unfortunately for him, we are intolerant towards stupidity. And we remember a hell lot than he actually can with his bearings on.

8 Places Across The World That You Are NOT Advised To Visit

0
Places not advised to visit

By Saptarishi Sarkar

The Earth is a fascinating ball of mysteries, with so much to explore and understand its vast landscape. There are places where you have to be to appreciate the beauty of nature and then there are places you should never be because few stories in life are better left untold.
Here are some places from all over the world where you should never visit:

Area 51, North America

Area 51, North America-Places not advised to visit

Better known as ‘the worst kept secret’ area 51 is a remote detachment of Edward Airforce Base build inside the periphery of Nevada Test and Training Range. The base was used for testing experimental aircraft and weapons for the U.S military, however, the present purpose of the base is unknown and is highly guarded. The intense secrecy of the place made it the subject of UFO stories and conspiracy theories.Whatever they are hiding there, they are very careful about it!

North Sentinel Island, Andaman Islands, India

North Sentinel Island, Andaman Islands, India-Places not advised to visit

Some places are better left untouched by the modernity of our society. At a time when we thought primitive tribes are extinct, there came this Sentinelese, a native tribe of the North Sentinel Island, who came into the limelight in 2006 after they killed 2 fishermen who illegally landed on their island.

Snake Island, Off Shore Sao Paolo, Brazil

Snake Island, Off Shore Sao Paolo, Brazil-Places not advised to visit

Ilha da Queimada Grande aka ‘Snake Island’ is the home of a thousand variety of snakes and the native and endangered species of Bothrops insularis, The Golden Lancehead Snake! Needless to say, this is the creepiest and dangerous place to be, if the government allows it. Yes, the island has been closed to public and is only open to researchers.

Tunguska Event Site, Siberia, Russian Empire

Tunguska Event Site, Siberia, Russian Empire-Places not advised to visit

This is by far the most mysterious place on earth after the Bermuda Triangle that made it to the list of places not to be. In the morning of 1906, a massive explosion shook a quarter of the globe. Nobody knows how or why the explosion happened, only theories of meteorites bursting mid air have been around. It surfaced an enormous area of 2000 km2. The shockwaves were so strong that it was felt and recorded in the Great Britain which was equivalent to seismic waves of 5.0 Richter scale earthquake.

Istanbul, Turkey

Istanbul, Turkey-Places not advised to visit

Many of you might never guess why this beautiful place made it to the list of non-visitable places. Well, it’s more of a geological and dormant concern than a direct threat. The North Anatolian Fault is on the verge of rupturing according to geologists, but nobody knows when. The rapture will cause total devastation to the people of Istanbul which is predicted to occur within 25 years.

Java and Sumatra, Indonesia

Java and Sumatra, Indonesia-Places not advised to visit

A place of utter destruction due to natural hazards like earthquake, tsunami, landslides, volcanos and drought, these two islands are the most tormented places on earth. The most famous, or rather infamous one being the 9.1 Richter scale, 2004 Indian ocean tsunami that devasted the coastlines of India, Indonesia, Malaysia and all other neighbouring countries.

Naples, Italy

Naples, Italy-Places not advised to visit

Built on the ashes of the ancient city of Pompei and Herculaneum this beautiful city of Naples is sitting on the slopes of a time bomb, The Mount Vesuvius. In 79 A.D Mt. Vesuvius erupted, swallowing the cities of Pompei and Herculaneum and burning them into ashes. An estimated 650 thousand inhabitants live in its slope and an impending eruption can cause the evacuation of all its inhabitants.

Bermuda Triangle, Bermuda

Bermuda Triangle, Bermuda-Places not advised to visit

The Devil’s Triangle as it is called is the greatest mystery of the modern world. Hundreds of aircraft and ships have been reported missing in the triangular area in the Atlantic Ocean with Bermuda, Puerto Rico and Miami at its vertexes. A 500,000 sq. miles of pure uncertainty, a perfect example of a place you definitely shouldn’t be wandering about.

The list can go on as the earth is both a beautiful artefact and a dangerous trap, depends on what and how you decide to see it.

11 Amazing Excerpts From Dr. Kamal Haasan’s Speech At Harvard University

0
Kamal Haasan in Harvard University

By Lalith Vamsee

Padmabhushan. Dr.Kamal Haasan addressed students of Harvard University at the annual India Conference on February 7. Mr Haasan, the biggest stars of South India chose freedom of speech as his topic.

However, he still became the first South Indian actor to speak at the prestigious Harvard University. Other Indians who have spoken at the conference in the past include Shashi Tharoor, Nirupama Rao, Preetha Reddy and Chanda Kochhar.

In Haasan’s keynote at Harvard University, what reflected was sincerity and honesty. Even when he attracted a lot of unwanted controversies, he smiled and said, “You are going to speak all this in Harvard? asked some of my friends, in awe and some in disbelief. I have been constantly reminded of my lack of intramural training. I must humbly submit that I am a high school dropout.”

Here are 11 excerpts from his Harvard Speech which will prove that he is not only proud of his democratic country but he’ll not mince his words if need be!

Read on:

1. “Freedom of speech is unlike love. Love as popularly quoted, is never having to say that you are sorry. With freedom of speech you must be ready to say as many things as you need to before you say sorry.

2. “My opinion is questioned when I tell them Democracy is not the most infallible of political systems. They take umbrage. They see red. Red as my political complexion. Let me confess I am not.”

3. “I don’t have a religion yet I shamelessly use some rare but finer points from even religion for a better living and harmony. I don’t think that either democracy, communism or fascism or any other “isms” is going to be the ultimate and final answer for all social maladies”

4. “Our society is work in progress. Some scientists believe that human mind itself is work in progress. So I am unwilling to accept any one political ideology as a settled cure for all our woes”

5. “Freedom unlike money is not safe once inside a bank locker. It won’t safely accrue, to be withdrawn for use in times of dire need. Constant vigil is necessary to safeguard it”

6. “I am not here to bash democracy or praise communism or socialism. I have taken this opportunity to put on record through media and those receptive minds here that we cannot take freedom of speech for granted and complacently think that democracy automatically means freedom of speech”

7. “As a matter of fact, I am proud of the kind of democracy we have managed to practice in spite of many attempts to abuse it”

8. “It was not democracy that allowed freedom of speech and freedom itself but the other way around. It was freedom of speech that sculpted and cultured democracy.”

9. “I can almost hope to see borders blur within my lifetime, and all will truly and slowly become citizens of the world instead of boasting limiting parochial borders”

10. “I am proud and fortunate to be in a medium that can reflect and protect freedom of speech and even fight for it subcutaneously and also in a full frontal attack if need be”

11. “People often confuse my voicing dreams of going back to film school as humility, that too a false humility. Believe me it’s truly humility that time and experience has taught me, that too not very kindly. I have learnt little tricks in the time I spent in the film industry, a little more than half a century”

Currently Kamal Haasan is working in the sequel of Viswaroopam (2013).

Pirate Bay Now Allows For Streaming Movies As Well

0
The Pirate Bay

By Siddharth Naidu

The Pirate Bay torrent site has changed its domain so many times, you might not even be sure where it is right now (thepiratebay.se, last we checked). It’s still pretty kicking kicking though, and now it has a new trick – streaming movies directly from your browser. That’s right! For those unfortunate PC’s with just 128GB internal storage, download is not required. Pirate Bay is able to do that thanks to a new plugin from Torrents Time.

If you want to try it out (preferably you should at least once), all you have to do is download the Plugin for either Firefox, Internet Explorer or Chrome, and when you go to a given Pirate Bay torrent, you’ll get the option to stream.

The Pirate Bay

The plugin is a free beta right now, but there are a few of the usual Pirate Bay limitations. You’ll need to have enough seeders and peers to perfectly stream it. Also, the quality is still debatable, given the fact that we haven’t exactly touched huge MBPS numbers. And, of course, it’s completely illegal, should you decide to stream copyrighted content. Once you get it working, there are few nice features like casting support for Chromecast, Airplay and DLNA and of course built-in VPN.

The Torrents Time group also points out that the plugin can be used by any site, and according to Venture Beat, another PlugIn tester, Pirate Bay’s  rival KickAssTorrents will eventually integrate it, too. It’s ad-free for now, but the Torrents Time has promised that ad server integration is “coming soon.”

Hindu Marriages New Venue : PAKISTAN

0

By Siddharth Naidu

After decades of procrastination, the Hindu minority community in Pakistan will soon have a Marriage law, as a parliamentary panel curated for the issue, has unanimously approved the Hindu Marriage Bill.

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Law and Justice on Monday passed the final draft of Hindu Marriage Bill 2015, as  five Hindu lawmakers were specially invited to overlook the proceedings. The bill was unanimously adopted after making two amendments to fix the minimum age of the marrying male and female at 18,  and making the law applicable to the whole country.

Mr. Virk and ruling PML-N lawmaker Ramesh Kumar Vankwani had been pushing for approving the Bill for a long time now, but the members of other parliamentary parties persisted with raising objections.

Dr.Vankwani wanted to drop a clause in the Bill that said that the marriage will be nullified if any of the partners converted to Islam. This was inserted by the Council of Islamic Ideology when the Bill was sent for ‘Sharia vetting’ some six months ago.

“Why a Hindu and a Muslim or Christian cannot live together as happily married couple?” Dr. Vankwani questioned and opposed the clause

His suggestion to drop the clause, met stern resistance from Mr. Jumani and Mr. Khan after which Committee Chairman stopped the discussion to avoid “total collapse” of the meeting.

“If Hindu boys and girls elsewhere can marry into other religions why this cannot be a reality here?” Dr. Vankwani said, adding that open-mindedness is required in the society.

The Bill will now be introduced in the National Assembly where it has fair chances of being passed as the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) party stands in its favour.

“The Crime Mapping, Analytics and Predictive System (CMAPS) is being operationalised by Delhi Police in partnership with ISRO for effective use of space technology- based tools for ensuring internal security,” a senior police official said yesterday.

He said the system would help in crime control and law and order and security management through analysis of relevant data and patterns, leading to the optimization of available resources.

The system will be complete with police officials being equipped with Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) devices connected to a central processor, which stores records of more
than 2 lakh criminals.

At present crime mapping is a periodical process which is conducted manually by gathering electronic data at an interval of 15 days. The reports are prepared by the Joint Commissioners and forwarded to Special Commissioner (Law and Order), who then briefs the police chief.

With the new space technology-based system, the police will also be able to identify gangs in specific areas real time.

The mechanism of “predictive policing” has been adopted by cities in quite a few developed nations.

Lets Hope for the Best!
