R. Ashwin, Chennai floods,Ashwin

Ravichandran Ashwin, the lead bowler for Indian cricket in the last few years, batted through much of yesterday, without having any information about his parents, who are stuck in Chennai floods.

R. Ashwin was playing for India in the fourth Test match between India and South Africa. While he was batting for India, his wife was Tweeting that his parents are still unnoticeable.

However, Ashwin, displaying utmost professionalism and discharging his duties for the team, did not let it affect him, as he scored 56 valuable runs for the team. It was only much later that his wife Tweeted that Ashwin’s parents had been contacted through WhatsApp calls, and the situation was fine now.

Ashwin has been voicing his opinion about the Chennai floods on and off, and inviting people to contribute to the cause.

Stay strong, Ashwin!

DSP: A Singer, A Lyricist And Now A Choreographer

0
dsp,music directors

We know Devi Sri Prasad as a singer, lyricist, stage performer and dancer. The song ‘Bang Bang Bangkok’ from Kumari 21F is just another fun song that adds to Devi’s list which he wrote and sang. But, what more special to this particular song is, Devi even choreographed this one. Yes!! He did teach the cast how to dance.

Without any doubt DSP is the face of music in Telugu cinema. He has impressed us with his voice and of late, with his lyrics too. When DSP was explaining how he composed the song keeping Bangkok and its activities in mind, Sukumar, who was impressed, requested Devi to take up the choreography as well. Devi took it up and you can see his crazy movements in the song as well. As a friend, DSP already contributed with his lovely music and BGM to this coming-off age love story. Now this comes as a pleasant surprise.

Check out the making of the song Bang Bang Bangkok. Devi is the ‘master’.

Virender Sehwag promises his sons a Ferrari if they break his record

Sehwag Ferrari

When the Feroz Shah Kotla Ground in Delhi named two stands after Virender Sehwag – Viru 309, and Viru 319, Virender Sehwag revealed that he has promised his sons a Ferrari if they break his record scores, even in school cricket.

Virender Sehwag, arguably the most entertaining batsman of the previous decade, retired last month at the age of 37. To honour his contribution to the game, BCCI and the DDCA (Delhi and District Cricket Association) felicitated Sehwag for his contribution to the game.

Sehwag remains one of the most influential batsman of his time, surprisingly finishing with a stellar Test career, even though his batting style was more suited to T20 format of cricket. Sehwag finished his career with these statistics:

Speaking to Harsha Bhogle for an interview with The Indian Express, Virender Sehwag had these final words for his fans – ‘I want to thank all of them who came to watch me, who backed me in by bad times. May be some time i have got out early and not able to entertain you but I hope you keep on cheering for Team India the way you guys have cheered for me.

7 Weird Olympic Games That Aren’t a part of Olympics any more

0

by Neeru Singh

The Olympic games is a carnival of human excellence and sheer courage and determination. The games were created in ancient Greece as man as 3000 years ago, were revived in the late 19th century and have become the world’s elite sporting completion. From 8th century B.C to the 4th century A.D, the games were held every four years in Olympia, a place in the western Peloponnese peninsula in the honor of the god Zeus. The first modern Olympics took place in 1896 in Athens and observed participation from 13 nations. Since 1994, the summer and winter edition of Olympic games have been organised separately and alternatively every 2 years.

The Olympic motto,”Citius, Altius, Fortius” which means “Swifter, Higher, Stronger”” beautifully states the essence of the sportsmanship. To spur the athletes to embrace the Olympic spirit and showcase the apogee of their ability.

The Olympic movement proposes sports not just as a physical activity but also a means of educating people. The Olympic games have traced a long journey and through its course various games and events have been rekindled and others have been weeded out to reach the grandeur we are accustomed to today.

Here are 7 weird Olympic games that have, for obvious reasons, been discontinued.

  1. Live Pigeon Shooting

Live pigeon shootingYou would be amazed to know that Olympic committee approved the killing of live animals. The rule was simple to kill as many Pigeons as possible. Once you miss two birds, you are eliminated. It didn’t take long before animal rights activists had compression shooting clay Pigeons in place of live birds and thus the game lost its enthusiasm among the audience. It could not see the light after 1900 Paris Olympic games.

2.Solo Synchronised Swimming

Solo swimmingThe game was about to perform water ballet routine in water just as we have in team synchronised events. It was made an official event in 1989 and then discontinued in 1992 because Olympic committee realised the fact that synchronisation is absent in a solo act. The agreement for the validity of this sport wasn’t strong enough to tread water.

3.Tug of wars

Tug of war OlympicsUnlike some of other discontinued games, tug of war survived from 1900 to1992 games. The game was played with 2 teams pulling on a rope in opposite direction trying to pass the middle ribbon on the rope across the intersection to their site. The game faded to the Olympic oblivion due to controversy on ground of participation of ringers as pullers especially recruited for this event in American teams and scandals related to type of the boots used by the teams.

4.Cricket

Cricket OlympicsCricket made both it’s Olympic debut and farewell at the second modern games in 1900 Paris Olympics. The games is played between two teams of eleven player’s with a bat and a ball in alternation.

The first appearance observed only 4 participant teams with other two (Dutch and Belgian) withdrawing before the start of the play. The poor management, only a dozen audience in a 2000 spectator capability stadium and ill spirited participation dozed off the future of cricket as a aspiring event from Olympics.

  1. Plunging for distance

Plunging for distance OlympicsThis unusual event gained popularity in the late 19th and 20th century. The competitors would plunge into the water and remain motionless for 60 second before their drift distance was recorded. It become official event in 1904 games, but later everyone agreed that the event required zero athletic ability. And by 1920 the game had taken the plunge.

6.Roque and Croquet

Croquet OlympicsRoque is actually the American version of the French sport Croquet. Like cricket, in both the games, short handled mallets are used on a hard concrete ground that is surrounded by the a concrete wall against which ball rebounds and retrieves. Both the games were compete incontestably in 1904 and 1900 Olympic games respectively by Americans and Frenchmen. The lack of participation doomed the future of this ‘game of the century’ from international level.

7.Basque Pelota

Basque Pelota OlympicsThe Paris games of 1900 saw this sport’s sole appearance. An ancient sport in which teams of two players use a basket to fling a ball against a wall in racquetball like game. Participation was a bit of down show. Only two team showed up and this the game too lost itself to history.

Likewise, other games like Rugby, Polo, Golf made certain temporary appearances at several Olympic games but list themselves to controversies that played against them. Similarly games like rope climbing, standing triple jump, duelling pistols observed either lack of participation or lack of athletic ability .

The Olympic games have evolved and lived up with time and generations. That would explain why polo, rugby and golf are ready to make a comeback as a Olympic sport in 2016 Rio Olympics. The 2016 Rio Olympics is going to be hosted by first South American country which itself epitomise the very essence of Olympic games ‘to play and to grow’.

Six Greatest Villains Of Bollywood

0
Gabbar in Sholay

By Chithra R.

They are the most hated personalities in the entire Bollywood. People look at them with disgust, anguish and much hatred; at least when they are in theatres. I am talking about the ever-important catalyst, not just in Bollywood, but also in the entire film industry in the world. Here is a list of the greatest villains of Bollywood, who left a lasting impression in our minds because of their iconic villainies.

Gabbar in Sholay

Gabbar in Sholay

It is impossible for a movie lover to not know about Sholay, or its most iconic character Gabbar. The name, face, mannerisms etc. are all etched into the minds of viewers. The dialogues like, “kitne aadmi the?” and “Jo darr gaya, samjho marr gaya” still rings in our ears. He was a textbook villain and guide to all future villains who appeared in later movies.

Mogambo in Mr. India

Mogambo in Mr. India

Amrish Puri belongs to the most elite list of actors of Bollywood because of his effortless catering of emotions in his movies. His character Mogambo is the most liked irrespective of people. His one-liner is still very much popular. “Mogambo khush hua.” He gave a new attitude to Indian movie villains.

Dr. Dang in Karma

Dr. Dang in Karma

We all know that Anupam Kher is one of the most versatile actors of Bollywood. He is comfortable portraying any kind of characters. Everything will be safe with him. His portrayal of Dr. Dang has to be mentioned in this list just for the superlative performance. His character was different from all the other villains in Bollywood. The rest of our villains are not so intelligent or brilliant. They are rude and uncultured. Dr. Dang was a scientist who wanted to destroy the world with his inventions. Mad scientist, maybe. They are the usual villains of Hollywood movies.

Sonika Roy in Aitraaz

Sonika Roy in Aitraaz

This movie was PCs ticket to stardom. She was able to grasp the attention of every movie lover through the character Sonika Roy. Aitraaz was a groundbreaking movie for Bollywood, as it dealt with the theme of harassment of men, something that the Indians werenot familiar. Priyanka was just superb as the CEO who tries to satiate her thirst through her employee. Yes, the movie had Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor playing important parts, but they were nothing compared to what Priyanka did onscreen.

Esha Diwan in Gupt

Kajol

Female villains are a rarity now, but when they are shown, man! What an acting it would be! It is always amazing when an actress whom we have seen as a lead protagonist portray the villain. It goes on to show their versatility. Kajol’s Esha was a psycho in the movie. We wouldn’t even guess she could be the villain. Actors like Kajol and Priyanka have always pushed their envelopes when it comes to acting. Ironically, both these actors got an award for their portrayal of villains on screen.

Kabir in Dhoom

John Abraham

John Abraham is and will always be known, for the character of Dhoom. It was one of the most powerful and charismatic of all villains ever performed in Bollywood. Kabir was the villain of modern times. He was intelligent and handsome. His suave style of robbing was new treat for the movie-goers.

Delhi Street Foods You Mustn’t Miss When You’re There

0
Kebabs in Delhi

by Gautam Siddharth

Delhi or more correctly “Dilli” offers locals and visitors many delicacies. Street food is the heartbeat of “Dilwalo ki Dilli”. So without further ado, let me bring to you, the top 7 of Dilli’s mouth watering, mind boggling street foods.

Parantha:

Parantha DelhiI know, I know, this is so obvious. But well, Parantha has earned its place don’t you think? That muddy round gorgeous little thing with butter skiing on top of it? That satisfaction that it renders to your tummy, that deep little nap that accompanies it. Yum! Yum! (Its totally fine with me if you’re drooling right now)

Where to eat:

Paranthe Wali Gali is the number one spot. Moolchand Parathe Wala located in South Delhi (SRK’s favourite when he used to live in Delhi) is also a nice “adda” (place) for it.

Chaat:

Chaat DelhiOh yes! Literal meaning of the word being “tasting a delicacy”, and totally justified too, once you are exposed to the explosive taste of the spices mixed together in a splendid cocktail of awesomeness. The crunch of “chaat papadi” can literally mend your broken heart (okay, I exaggerated). It won’t mend it but your tongue will be on fire so you’ll definitely forget about the whole thing for a while.

Where to eat?

Bittu Tikki Wala, Karol Bagh; Daulat ki Chaat, Chandni Chowk; Natraj Dahi Bhalle Wala, Chandni Chowk

Butter Chicken:

Butter Chicken DelhiThe dish that literally flows through the veins of Punjabis, the top priority when you are looking to blow some steam off with some daru (alcohol) with your langotiya yaars (childhood friends) or the dish for which you will make up all such silly excuses because it is really that awesome, butter chicken is God’s way of showing himself to us sinners! So scrape off that last piece of meat on that leg piece and say Amen!

  • Where to eat:

There is rarely any restaurant in this country that doesn’t serve this dish but you can visit Moti Mahal, Daryaganj; Havemore, Pandara Road for some mean chicken.

Chole Bhature:

Chhole Bhature DelhiI am just guessing, by this time you must have ordered one of the dishes above? Or must have made plans to gobble them up later? (No?…meh..so what? It’s not like I’m playing Sawal Das Crore ka (not even sure how to translate the same), the Salman Show, remember?..anyways)

If you haven’t, I present to you, the refreshing, the irresistible, the Achilles’ heel of our bombastic nation, Chole Bhature. I don’t even know how to praise this one, the fluffy ball of goodness accompanied by the steamy bowl of that appealing orange gravy! Yummy!!!

  • Where to eat?

Sitaram Diwan Chand, Paharganj; Chache Di Hatti Kamla Nagar.

Momos:

Momos DelhiOh yeah! The steamed dumplings, the source of all power for the legendary Kung Fu Panda! (see what I did there?) The fiery sauce, I like the sauce, it’s unrealistic really, hot enough to burn your tongue away and leave you with just a whole set of teeth and teary eyes, gasping for breath. You just probably remembered your own experience, right? Han? No?

  • Where to eat?

Kamla Nagar Market; Nagaland Food Stall in Dilli Haat;  Sikkim House,  Panchsheel Marg; Cafe Brown Sugar, GK market.

Kebabs:

Kebabs in DelhiOne awesome thing that Mughals did was marinating chunks of meat with hardcore Indian spices and cook them to death. A quintessential “Dilli” experience, getting kebab’s delivered to cars (I don’t really know, someone told me).
Where to eat?

Alkakori Alkauser, R K Puram; Ustad Moinuddin Kebabs, Lal Kuan; Ghalib Kebab Corner, Nizamuddin; Salim’s Kebabs, Khan Market; Aap Ki Khatir, SDA.

Kulfi:

Delhi KufliI feel like I have just served you food online, I don’t know why…it’s weird. So at the end “Kuch Meetha Ho jaaye” (Something sweet for closure). Yes, there are many other alternatives, piping hot Jalebis and Rabri Falooda and Motichoor laddoo and Imli Aam Papad? And Gulabjamun and Rasgulle And custard and blueberry cheesecake and this and that but Kulfi is Kulfi!

  • Where to eat?

Giani di Hatti, Chandni Chowk; Old and Famous Jalebiwala in Chandni Chowk who has served celebrities like Late Raj Kapoor and Indira Gandhi; Kuremal Mohan Lal Kulfiwala, Chandni Chowk; Big Chill Cafe, Khan Market; Ghantewala Halwai, Chandni Chowk

So, that completes my list of top 7 Delhi street foods. What are yours?

Chennai Floods : How Siddarth is proving that he’s a real life hero as well

0
Chennai Floods,chennai airport,

The sudden torrential rains have hampered Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu. This has been the worst rains in the last 100 years for Chennai. With railways, major roadways and bridges affected, commuting in most part of the city and state has been affected, bringing the city to a standstill. Access to basic necessities has been damaged extensively. Hence, the Social media has become handy to reach out for help and to help.

While many of our heroes have come forward with some monetary help, Siddarth and R Balaji have taken a step ahead. They have taken the leadership to engage people who are volunteering to help. With Navy doing their best in rescue operations, Sid and Balaji are coordinating with volunteers and doing their bit in reducing the burden.

Like many in Chennai, Siddarth’s house is an affected one too.

https://twitter.com/Actor_Siddharth/status/671683137760460800/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw

During calamities like these, basic amenities are not fulfilled. Sid and R Balaji have been avidly active providing their hand in arranging food packets to conveyance, anything that’s coming their way.

And the help they received was immense.

Seeing Sidharth, Udhay Stalin too came forward to contribute his bit.

It’s heart warming to see how the versatile actor went way beyond his reach through Twitter. The way Siddarth has used social media to help Chennai and its people during the crisis is something we all should not only be proud of, but also learn from. We have seen people expressing condolences during such natural calamities, but how many of us actually take a step forward? Siddarth and R. Balaji have been truly inspiring in this ‘social’ act. They didn’t do it because they have the money, they did for the love of their city. We salute them! Stay strong Chennai!

5 Reasons the new Superman Vs. Batman trailer is awesome!

0
superman vs batman

The new Superman Vs. Batman trailer seems to have blown everybody to bits. And it’s not without reason.

Here’s why the Superman vs. Batman trailer is probably the greatest trailer to come out in recent years.

  1. Bringing together the two biggest superheros in comic book history.

BatmanSuperman and Batman are arguably the greatest superheroes in the comic book universe, and both of them will be seen together for the first time. The trailer does a great job and depicting the tension between the two stalwarts, and from the rushes, it seems like both of them know of each other’s secret identities.

  1. Superman Vs Batman – the eternal question.

For fans of comic books, the one question that seems to have been haunting everybody is this – Who is better? Superman or Batman??

Batman vs SupermanWhile both of them work towards the same goal of keeping the world free of evil masterminds, their methods and tools are vastly different. While Superman is an alien whose powers make him superhuman, Batman is a human who has trained himself to become a superhero. While you may have your favourites, the trailer seems to hold the answers to the question – Who is better?

  1. Zack Snyder

In case you didn’t know who Zack Snyder is, he’s the awesome brain behind very cool movies like 300, Watchmen and Man of Steel. Zack has been obsessed with superheroes and comic books for decades now, and there couldn’t be a better person to helm a project like this.

3004.  Kick-ass dialogues:

Both the characters of Superman and Batman are known to have legendary dialogues. The dialogues in the trailer are awesome as well. There is Jesse Eisenberg playing a young Lex Luthor, spewing out lines like ‘This is the greatest gladiator match in the universe’. Also, the banter between Superman and Batman are amazing.

  1. Wonder Woman:

The single most exciting reason (at least for me), was the introduction of Wonder Woman. One of the main characters of Justice League, Wonder Woman hasn’t been seen on the screen till today. Perhaps her first time on screen, Wonder Woman is an awesome character from the DC universe who hasn’t been given her full due.

And oh, have you seen how hot she is!

Not So ‘Little Soldiers’ : I’m A Very Good Girl Song Reprised

0
Kavya Annapareddy ,little Soldiers movie

We all remember the famous song ‘I’m a very good girl’ from Little Soldiers.

For every kid in the 1990s, this was their favourite. The two kids then, Sunny (Baladitya) and Bunny (Kavya Annapareddy) are no more kids and they have grown up like any of us. With Kavya getting ready for marriage, her brother, Adarsh Annapareddy decided to reprise the old classic. Adarsh played Tinku in the original but, swapped roles with Baladitya in the reprise. Their parents and the director of the original, Gunnam Gangaraju also took part in this video. It was shot as a part of Kavya’s marriage celebrations. Probably that is the reason it lacked the original’s soul.

It’s always nostalgic to see such songs being reprised. It throws us back into those times when cinema meant nothing, but fun. Surprising to see that little kid is now getting married. Yeah, time flies! Wish you a Happy Married Life, Kavya!! You have the best song for kids in the history of Telugu cinema.  😉

Here check out the video! You will travel back in time!

New iPhone will not have 3.55 mm audio jack?

0
i phone 7,i phone,latest mobile phones,

Apple, the company that leaves its competitors far behind when it comes to innovations, is rumoured to leave out the 3.55 mm universal audio jack from its new iPhone models, set to be announced in 2016.

This might be a major disappointment for many, but Apple has its reasons to leave the 3.55 mm jack from its new iPhone models.

Way back in 2007, Apple products like the iPhone and iPod had a different audio jack. However after much criticism, it reverted to the 3.5 mm universal standard jack in 2008. However, it has its own reasons for doing this.

Most importantly, Apple wants to provide just one jack for all three needs – phone charging, audio, and data transfer. This new ‘lightning port’ will also help Apple in its aim of making its flagship phones lighter and thinner.

The new lightning port is rumoured to be 2.5 mm thick, and this gives Apple greater control with app-enabled headphones. For those who use a regular 3.5 mm jack, you’ll need an adapter, like in the old days of iPhone and iPods.

5 Greatest Indian cricketers who didn’t get a farewell match

0

Some cricketers are lucky to get a farewell match for themselves.

When Sachin Tendulkar retired in 2013, he had the entire nation stopping in its track to watch him wear India colours for the last time. When Saurav Ganguly played his final Test, Dhoni let him captain the innings for a bit. Anil Kumble got a standing ovation as he had already announced that it would be his last test.

However, some cricketers are not that lucky. Some of them play their final Tests without any idea that it might be their last Test. And in a few years, they are dropped unceremoniously, eventually announcing their retirement after being sidelined for a long time.

Here is a list of the greatest Indian cricketers who did not get a chance to enjoy a farewell Test for themselves. They did not get carried around the stadium, they did not have commentators talk highly of their past achievements. Their last day on the cricket field was just another day for them.

Here’s the list:

Rahul Dravid: Undoubtedly one of the greatest Indian batsmen of all time, Rahul Sharad Dravid was the wall that protected Indian cricket. A disciplined, polite, and dignified player on and off the field, Rahul Dravid was also utterly selfless. He did whatever was required for the team, whether it was captaincy during a difficult time, or wicket-keeping, or bowling.

However, Rahul’s last Test match was a bit of a let down. He played his final Test match at Adelaide in January 2012. It was a terrible tour for India, and the Test in itself wasn’t special for either Dravid or the Indian team. Dravid scored 1 in the first innings, and 25 in the second innings, as Australia trounced India by 298 runs.

Rahul Dravid

VVS Laxman: You can’t take Dravid’s name without mentioning VVS Laxman. Laxman was India’s best fourth innings batsman, something even the Australian team had admitted. Laxman is remembered fondly by Indian fans for playing the greatest innings by an Indian, his legendary 281 in Kolkata while following on against Australia in 2001.

However, Laxman’s career also ended abruptly, as his final Test match was the same one that his friend and teammate Rahul Dravid played in. Laxman scored 18 in the first innings and 35 in the second innings, and announced his retirement after a few months. Sadly, the greatest fourth innings batsman of India never got to enjoy a farewell Test match for himself.

VV laxman

Virender Sehwag: There have been very few batsmen as feared as Virender Sehwag in international cricket. When he was on song, there was no opposition too strong for Virender Sehwag, no stadium too big. Virender Sehwag was probably the only player whose fans had the numbers to challenge Sachin Tendulkar’s in terms of sheer numbers.

However, in spite of a stellar Test career, Virender Sehwag’s last Test was pretty sad. It was a great Test for India, having won by an innings and 135 runs. However, Sehwag only scored 6 runs in the first innings, and Jadeja and Ashwin wrapped up the Australia innings, resulting in a huge victory for India. It was a sad ending to a great player’s career.

Virender Sehwag1

Sunil Gavaskar: Sunil Gavaskar was Indian cricket’s first global superstar. A batsman who scored tons of runs against the mighty West Indian bowling attack, in a time when there were no helmets, guards, and other safety equipment.

However, in spite of being the first cricketer in the world to score 10,000 runs, Gavaskar had a sad ending to his Test career. His final Test was played in Bangalore in the year 1987. The five match series between India and Pakistan had been trailing along 0-0 till the first four Tests. In the final Test, Gavaskar scored 21 in the first innings and 96 in the second innings.

Sunil GavaskarZaheer Khan: After Kapil Dev and Javagal Srinath, the onus of heading India’s bowling attack rested on the shoulders of one man – Zaheer Khan. Zaheer was India’s most reliable bowler for nearly a decade, making up for the loss of pace with crazy accuracy and the ability to swing both the old and new ball both ways.

However, Zaheer Khan’s final Test was played at Wellington in 2014, where he got no wickets in the first innings, and 5 in the second innings. However, the match is remembered for Brendon McCullum’s triple century, and Zaheer Khan never got to play another Test match after that match. He recently announced his retirement, and it is sad that he wasn’t given any more opportunities to play.

Zaheer KhanMohammad Azharuddin: A controversial name today, Mohammad Azharuddin at one point held every single batting record there was in international cricket. Most matches, most runs, he had it all. However, his career will always be marred by the match fixing controversy, and he was sacked unceremoniously after his name cropped up in the investigations that followed.

In his final Test, against South Africa in Bangalore (2000), Azhar scored 9 in the first innings and 102 in the second innings. However, South Africa won the match by a huge margin (an innings and 71 runs) and South Africa won the series 2-0. It was a huge shock to lose all the matches of a home-played Test series, but it was a bigger shock than Azhar was named in the match fixing scandal that came up shortly.

6 Worst RGV Movies That Do Not Carry His Mark

0
Rgv movies, 365 days

Ram Gopal Verma never assisted in making a movie before he debuted as a director. Yet, with the kind of narration and subjects he chose, he is considered as a pioneer who changed the face of Telugu and Indian cinema as a whole. He is an inspiration for many film-makers across the country. This was the RGV we all looked up to for many years. Since a decade the fame he gathered started to act against him. His twitter battles, his obnoxious replies in interviews have just thrown him into some of the worst situations. His movies too started to deteriorate. The frequency of watching a good RGV film started to vaporize.

While he burnt his hands in making many Hindi films, Telugu Cinema also had his share of bad movies. In fact, the worst!

SHIVA (2006)

Shiva (2006)

Released with the same name Shiva, it was supposed to be a prequel to the original Shiva (1990). Truly Rubbish!

ADAVI

4 (6)

Marking Nithiin’s entry into Bollywood, this is a story of a film crew who get stuck in the forest accidentally. It leads to some ‘unknown force’ killing everyone ruthlessly. Another of RGV’s fantasy turned out to be shitty.

KSD – APPALARAJU

1 (7)

Making a comeback into Telugu films after a long time, Verma chose to take on the intricacies involved in film-making. It starred Sunil and Swati, but both of them couldn’t help the movie in succeeding. The major defect was the over-reacting and shabby screenplay. You just cannot handle this movie.

ICE-CREAM 2

3 (7)

The film deals with a group of film makers who encounter a psychopathic serial killer killing for unknown reasons. The reasons to go to the hall are also unknown. Not at all an RGV film!

DONGALA MUTHA

2 (8)

No one knows what happens in this movie. The only fact known about this movie is, it was shot in 5 days. Apart from that gimmick, the film had nothing going for it.

365 Days

6 (4)

RGV claimed that this is his first romantic love story without any grey shades. The plot deals with a newlywed couple and the problems faced by them. The concept itself seems so mundane for a RGV film. No wonder the film sank!

Sadly, RGV today probably has more shabby films than good films to his name.

Did we miss out on any torturous RGV films in this list? Let us know in the comments section below!

Mark Zuckerberg vows to donate 99% of his shares to charity

It is said that the birth of a child changes us, and there is no greater proof than Mark Zuckerberg.

Mark Zuckerberg’s wife, Dr. Priscilla Chan, gave birth to a daughter on Wednesday. Announcing the incident on Facebook, the CEO of Facebook revealed that he has promised his daughter that he and his daughter would donate 99% of their shares to charity.

Mark plans to start an organization called the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, which will focus on ‘personalized learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities’. The total value of the amount promised by Mark Zuckerberg comes to about $45 billion.

This is a trend that has been quite popular in the US, with CEO of Apple Inc, Tim Cook, having earlier announced that he was going to give away all of his fortune to charity, “after paying for his 10-year-old nephew’s college education”.

Other popular CEOs in the business world who have donated their wealth to charity include investor Warren Buffet, and the founder of Microsoft Bill Gates. This is surely something Indian business honchos need to pick up.

We wept for Paris, why do we ignore Chennai Floods?

0
Chennai floods

Much of the last month was spent in discussing and debating the Paris Attacks, but we don’t seem to be bothered about floods in Chennai, which have already claimed 200 lives, affected over 1.8 million people, and caused damage and losses more than 20,000 crores.

The media in the country is so screwed up that it spent the entire last week debating the stupid Aamir Khan intolerance issue. And like idiots, we also lapped up the controversy, without bothering about an issue where more than 200 people lost their lives.

The Chennai floods have been disastrous, to say the least. The worst affected are slum dwellers and the poor people, as more than 1.8 million people have lost their homes and livelihood. Chennai has always been a business hub, and its industrial edge is also losing its sheen, thanks to the Chennai floods.

According to reports, major automobile companies who have a presence in Chennai are suffering setbacks. TVS Motor stocks crashed by 4%, and Ashok Leyland witnessed losses too. Software companies faced a setback too, with Infosys, Wipro and TCS facing a downslide too.

In spite of all this, the Indian media has not devoted enough attention to the Chennai floods. In spite of all the deaths and destruction, we chose to give more importance to some comments by an actor, which doesn’t affect our lives in any way whatsoever.

While people are losing their lives, we are arguing about absolutely useless issues.

SlapAamir.com magically turns into KissAamir.com

0
KissAamir.com

KissAamir.com, is the new website that appears on your browser if you type in the words slapaamir.com

While there was a lot of talk about the website KissAamir.com yesterday, most people logged on to the side to find that the site now had a completely different look and interface.

We had written about the website yesterday, and as expected, the website drew a mixed response. On one hand, a lot of people found the website to be funny. On the other hand, a lot of people the website was going overboard, as it is not considered decent to have a website that asks you to slap people. More so because the comment was made by a Shiv Sena politician, and it was criticized heavily in media.

The people who run the website must have faced the heat for running the site, and decided to change the URL of the site altogether to KissAamir.com

It is interesting to see how many kisses Aamir Khan gets in comparison to slaps. At last count, we found there were over 80,00,000 slaps delivered to Aamir. On last count, Aamir has been given 30,00,000 kisses so far.

This is probably the truest test of what the nation feels about Aamir Khan right now. Whether it feels like slapping or kissing him.

7 Characters Who Out-Shone Their Heroes

0
Vijay Devarkonda,yevade subramanyam

A hero is called a hero because it is he who drives a movie majorly. The first person to be appreciated after watching a movie is the hero. We connect with him instantly and that connection even leads to form a fan base for that hero. At times the movie even leaves us to empathize or rejoice with the hero. But, little do we observe that some characters alongside the hero end up dominating the hero with their stellar acts. When you walk out of a cinema, these characters will stay with you for a longer time. Irrespective of what the character is, they end up over shadowing the hero with their performances.

Telugu cinema did experience this scenario. Here take a look at these characters and tell us if you didn’t.

Gaali Seenu – GAMYAM

Allari NareshThe road side thief played by Allari Naresh was a smart, funny and equally touching character. His love for high end bikes and his entertainment throughout the movie is hilarious. His death towards the end becomes a major crunch for the hero in realizing his humane roots.

Vijay DevarkondaRishi was one character which had a great soul in it. The newbie Vijay took this up on him and gave the audience a treat to watch with his uber-cool body language. Everyone fell head over heels in love with Rishi.

Biker (Akhil Akkineni) – MANAM

Akhil AkkineniIf the entire movie was a delicious buffet, Akhil as the biker who comes to the rescue at a crucial juncture was the perfect dessert. His appearance made an impact on everyone walking out of the movie.

Tyson –  HAPPY DAYS

10 Flop Movies that should have been hits

0
Manorama Six Feet under,Abhay Deol, Gul Panag,Raima Sen

by Nitish Giri Goswami

1. Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011)

Pyar ka punchnamaWith collections of merely around 10 crores in spite of being a cult hit among youngsters, this movie was not a hit. Being a movie targeted at guys, women couldn’t connect to the film. Kartik Aaryan’s speech was the only highlight of the film. However, if there was better casting, acting, and a tighter script, Pyaar Ka Punchnama could have gone on to become a great success.

2. Lakshya (2004)

LakshyaDespite Hrithik and Preity’s great performances, this movie couldn’t do much to gather audiences. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s music was promising and Farhan’s direction was pretty awesome. The movie had a clear cut view of a common guy who never had an aim in life, but ends up entering into the Indian Army as an officer. This movie motivated many youngsters to join the Army. Lakshya could have been a hit because it also grabbed a few awards like ‘National Film Award for Best Choreography- Prabhu Deva’, Filmfare Awards for ‘Best Cinematographer- Christopher Popp’ and again ‘Best Choreography- Prabhu Deva’.

With a total grossing of around 11 crores this movie was an epic fail for Farhan Akhtar and a flop movie added to Hrithik’s and Big B’s list. Although this movie still is considered an inspiration by many youngsters, is also considered huge flop by people on the other side of the track.

  1. Andaz Apna Apna (1994)

Andaz Apna ApnaDirected by Rajkumar Santoshi and starring superstars of today Aamir Khan and Salman Khan along with actresses like Raveena Tandon and Karishma Kapoor, Andaz Apna Apna was a flop. A movie about two daydreamers competing for an heiress, this was Aamir and Salman’s show.

Today, Andaz Apna Apna is considered a cult hit, and gets shown on TV quite a few times. However, in spite of being acknowledged as a classic comedy caper today, it didn’t do well at all when it released at the box office.

  1. Ghulam (1998)

GhulamA film by Vikram Bhatt, Ghulam was the story of a boxing champion, starring Aamir Khan and Rani Mukherjee in the lead. This movie was reviewed as ‘above average’ by audiences and critics. With hummable songs, this film was nominated for ‘Best Film’ in Filmfare and Zee Cine Awards. Even though there exists a misconception that the film was a superhit, in reality, the film didn’t rake in the moolah at the box office.

  1. Roy (2015)

RoyRoy, a film starring Ranbir Kapoor, Jaqueline Fernandez and Arjun Rampal, was the debut film for director Vikramjit Singh and produced by Bhushan Kumar. Roy is a movie based on a film-maker who writes stories on thefts, robberies. Ranbir playing Roy in this film is an international art thief and Jaqueline (playing Ayesha in the movie) is also a film-maker. This all seem to be a bit confusing isn’t it? Well, the story line was a bit messy and confusing but it still could have been a hit if the script had been fine-tuned a bit. In spite of fantastic songs crooned by Arijit Singh, Roy sank at the box office.

  1. Rockstar (2011)

RockstarDirected by Imtiaz Ali and starring Nargis Fakhri and Ranbir Kapoor, Rockstar is the story of a common man who wishes to become a rockstar. Rockstar was liked by Ranbir fans, which quite obviously were girls. Rockstar had the music of A. R. Rahman which was hugely appreciated and even today the songs of the movie are hit among the people.

In spite of beautiful locations and heart-thumping music from AR Rahman, Rockstar couldn’t be declared a superhit. Perhaps it was the lack of acting talent in the female lead, or the story, Rockstar missed out on scoring really big at the box office.

  1. The Burning Train (1980)

Burning-TrainThe Burning Train was a multi starrer film with Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Jeetendra, Vinod Khanna, Parveen Babi, Neetu Singh and many others in supporting roles. Directed by Ravi Chopra, this film was surprisingly a flop. The movie had a great opening but was declared a flop by the end.

In spite of a stellar starcast with the Who’s Who of Bollywood, Burning Train couldn’t rake in the expected earnings at the Box Office.

  1. Udaan (2010)

UdaanUdaan was hugely appreciated by critics. Produced by Anurag Kashyap and directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, Udaan earned around 3 crores, which resulted in the tage of an ‘average grosser’. Udaan starred debutant Rajat Barmecha, Ronit Roy and Ram Kapoor.

The story of a boy who is expelled from school and returns to live with his father and step brother, Udaan is an inspirational, heart-touching story that will move you to tears. However, in spite of all the good vibes, and mind-blowing music by Amit Trivedi, Udaan couldn’t work at the box office.

  1. Manorama Six-Feet Under (2007)

Manorama-Six-Feet-underThis thrilled directed by Navdeep Singh, starring Abhay Deol, Gul Panag and Raima Sen, still ranks in every critic’s best films of the previous decade. However, it vanished without a trace when it had originally released, in spite of an average rating of 4/5.

Manorama Six-Feet Under had a unique story, fantastic cast, and terrific editing. In spite of being technically sound, the film tanked, and it was really heartbreaking to see such a gem of a movie failing.

  1. Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year (2009)

Rocket-SinghRanbir Kapoor won the Filmfare Best Actor Award for this film, and yet nobody really went to the hall to watch it. Starring Ranbir Kapoor as a B.Com graduate who has terrific salesman skills, Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year had an ensemble cast that included Gauhar Khan.

However, in spite of the tight script, and absolutely no ‘sell-out’ qualities in the film (like item numbers), the film sank without a trace. Rocket Singh impressed critics so much that it finds mention in a book – 40 retakes-Bollywood classics you may have missed. However, when it was running at the Box Office, it sank without a trace.

Did we miss out any films that should have been huge hits, but missed out due to various reasons? Let us know in the comments below!

Website called slapaamir.com goes viral

0
slapaamir.com website,amir khan,amir khan intolerance

Slapaamir.com, a website that was launched a few days ago as a response to the Aamir Khan intolerance comments has gone viral.

Aamir Khan’s comments on the intolerance issue has stirred up a hornet’s nest in online forums in India. To add to the debates and discussions, there comes a website that is making people’s heads turn, literally.

The website seems to be counting all the slaps that people deliver to Aamir Khan, and on last count, there were as many as 7802562 slaps delivered. While the incident has been dealt with fire and brimstone throughout much of last week, the website – slapaamir.com aims to give the entire issue a funny twist.

How funny it is to slap someone on a website and count them for laughs, is debatable, but the images are funny as hell! And as the makers of slapaamir.com request as a disclaimer below, ‘Please be tolerant of our humour’.

Size Zero Review : Anushka is Worth Her Weight In Gold

0
Size Zero Review,Anushka

‘Believe in happy endings’ – is the first message the chubby Sweety (Anushka) reads on a weight ticket in her childhood on a coin-operated weight machine. It was a perfect start to the movie, sets the mood, and that’s the message the movie ends with too – ‘Believe in happy endings’. There are ups and down towards the pre-climax, but Size Zero emerges as a winner for Prakash Kovelamudi and team. It’s a safe bet and you won’t walk out disappointed. Especially girls facing obesity complexes, this could be their voice.

STORY AND PERFORMANCES:

Sweety (Anushka Shetty) believes in whatever the coin-operated weight machine says through the weight ticket and always keeps herself positive by accepting herself the way she is. Sweety speaks on behalf of many girls who suffer with obesity complexes. Be it being forced to work-out, reduce eating, or to get attention from guys. You will see a totally different Anushka Shetty as Sweety. Her dedication towards the character is shown and it’s amazing to see the voluptuous Anushka become a chubby, fat and cute girl. Abhi (Arya) is an NRI doing social service by shooting awareness programs on Indian toilet system in slums. Though Sweety likes him at first sight, she doesn’t want to get married and they mutually break the marriage arrangement made by their parents. They meet again at a marriage of their common relative and few romantic moments lead Sweety to develop feelings for Abhi.

Just when things seem pleasant, Sweety discovers Abhi and Simran (Sonal Chouhan) are in a relationship. This throws Sweety into a hassle, situation with obesity playing a major conflict in her life. She decides to join Size Zero, a clinic run by Satyanand (Prakash Raj). Both Arya and Sonal Chouhan provide good support to Anushka in terms of performance. Rest of the story is about how she emerges as a winner, fighting against Satyanand’s clinic, which falsely provides instant solutions for weight loss, of which her friend becomes a victim. Prakash Raj is a surprise in the movie. He essayed his role stupendously.

ANALYSIS

Prakash Kovelamudi has more or less justified his writer wife Kanika Dhillon’s script keeping all audiences in mind for a subject like this. Few patches in the latter half look like the movie de-railed, but before you realize, he manages to pull you back into the movie. Possibly the glitches were Prawin Pudi’s editing. A few crisper cuts would have enhanced the movie. Nirav Shah’s cinematography brightened up the screen and all throughout it’s colourful and rich. Production values are of top notch. Actress Urvashi returned to Telugu cinema after some time and is impressive. Gullapudi, Ali, Parvati Gangireddi had small roles and they played it well. Size Zero has some beautiful moments in terms of screenplay and MM Keeravani’s BGM has boosted this romantic comedy aptly.

Size Zero as a movie may not be a remarkable one, but it definitely makes you feel light when you walk out. The character of Sweety can be rated as Anushka’s best work till date when it comes to performance and physical transformation, an uncommon trait with actresses across any film industry in the country. Size Zero is a safe bet for this weekend and you will enjoy all the colours and food on screen. Go and watch the Anushka you saw in a bikini, filling the screen space with her fat. She is cute and fa(t)ntastic! In fact, it’s her show all the way!

A Forgotten Hero: How Tukaram Omble nabbed Ajmal Kasab

0
Ajmal Kasab26/11 Mumbai Attacks

Tukaram Omble, an Assistant Sub-inspector with the Mumbai Police, is forgotten today. But he was one of the reasons we have clinching evidence against Pakistan in the 26/11 Mumbai Attacks case.

Omble was patrolling Chowpatty as part of his daily duties on 26th November, 2008, when messages began to trickle in about the shooting in Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. The message revealed that the two terrorists were making their way towards Chowpatty in a Skoda car.

While the terrorists had AK-47s and grenades, all Omble had were a radio and a baton – a police lathi. The police had set up a barricade, and the car stopped about 50 meters away from the barricade. Kasab had jumped out of the vehicle, and that is when Omble pounced on him.

While Omble held on to the gun’s barrel, Kasab pulled the trigger, spraying bullets into Omble’s stomach and intestines. Omble collapsed on the spot, but held on to the gun, preventing Kasab from firing at anybody else.

What followed is common news. Kasab was the only surviving member of the 10 man squad that had attacked Mumbai. It was important to nab Kasab alive, as the case proved that he was a Pakistani. This also resulted in Pakistan registering a case against accused like Jamaat-ud-Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed.

There is a statue in honour of Omble in Chowpatty today. He has been awarded with the Ashoka Chakra, the highest peacetime gallantry award. He was also awarded the CNN Indian of the Year in the category ‘Extraordinary service to the nation’.

But sadly, the story of Tukaram Omble has been forgotten.

India Pakistan agree to play cricket tournament in Sri Lanka

0
india vs pakistan ,india ,pakistan,cricket

The two countries haven’t played in a single India Pakistan cricket tournament against each other since 2007, have finally agreed to play in a neutral country – Sri Lanka.

This is big news for fans of Indian and Pakistani cricket, since the two nations have only been competing against each other in international tournaments like the World Cup and Champions Trophy.

The issue has been a bone of contention between the two countries for a long time, with Pakistan refusing to tour India, and India refusing to play in UAE. According to a memorandum of understanding signed by the two nations in 2014, it was Pakistan’s turn to host a tournament, since India hosted the previous two tournaments, in 2007 and 2012.

Giles Clarke, a British man, is supposed to have played mediator between the two warring factions, as Sri Lanka was finally decided as the venue for the bilateral series. This comes in the wake of the infamous terror attack in 2009 when Sri Lankan players were shot at by Pakistani terrorists.

Since then, no country has toured Pakistan to play in a tournament. However, last year, Kenya toured Pakistan to play in a tournament. However, due to the lack of any major players in the tournament, the series fizzled out without much of a response. Also, while there wasn’t a major terror attack during the tournament, there was a blast outside one of the venues, further reducing the chances of any other country touring Pakistan in the near future.

Fans of both the countries are looking forward to the India Pakistan tournament with bated breath.

Let’s hope there is no untoward incident when the tournament takes place.

Shiv Sena leader offers 1 lakh to anybody who slaps Aamir Khan

slaps Aamir Khan, Aamir Khan

The Aamir Khan Intolerance debate took an ugly turn today when a Shiv Sena leader offered anybody a prize of 1 lakh rupees if they slapped actor Aamir Khan.

While the Shiv Sena spokesperson has maintained that this is not the official party position, it is a shockingly new low in the controversy, which has been twisted right from the beginning to get more eyeballs on the issue.

“Any person who slaps Aamir Khan will be rewarded Rs 1 lakh by the Shiv Sena. This is important because no one living in our country should dare to say anything against India… Anyone from the hotel staff or the film crew can slap him and take the reward.” This was the statement by Punjab Shiv Sena chief Rajeev Tandon on Wednesday.

The issue has escalated into a dirty mess, as posters and effigies of the actor have been burnt in the last few days for raising his opinion. While the actor’s patriotism has been questioned, our tolerance as a nation has come under question with this issue.

Protests were also held near a 5 star hotel in Ludhiana where the actor is shooting for his next film Dangal. The hotel has stepped up security for the actor, as protestors burnt his posters outside the hotel.

Aamir Khan has maintained that he loves the country, and has no plans for himself or his wife to leave the country anytime soon. He also reiterated that he is proud of India and doesn’t require the endorsement of anybody to prove it.

The issue has become really ugly now.

Going back to the question we asked you yesterday, do you think we are proving Aamir Khan right? That there is no scope to raise an opinion in India without facing a brutal backlash?

What do you think?

YouTube to Silver Screen: The Amazing Journey Of Raj Tarun

0
Raj Tarun

Raj Tarun, truly a boy next door is the talk of the industry at the moment and has possibly made the smartest journey so far in the Telugu film industry. While you need luck to accomplish your goals, his constant work on short films during his engineering days paid off stupendously.

If you look at the first decade of the millennium, it was a pilot run for a smart world. Things paced up and everything started to move faster than before. The latter half of the decade especially was a revolution by itself. It was smart work combined with hard work that could reap you immense results. Noticing the trend, Raj Tarun believed in his work and went on to do a number of short films that came his way. Though the number of people making it to big screen from YouTube off late has increased, Raj Tarun will be remembered as the first guy to have earned such popularity. Lets look through the steps he took:

Short Films – Raj Tarun Laid His Base

Working with MR Productions, Raj’s short movies such as The Blind Date, Sambar Idly, Two Side Love, Proposal were his first few projects as an actor which were also scripted by him.

Fresh Face for Uyyala Jamppala – When Hard Work met with luck

The Vizagite, who is more keen to direct and script movies landed in the Uyyala Jampala team as an assistant director through his director friend Virinchi Verma. Virinchi Verma was looking for fresh faces, and that stroke of luck was all Raj Tarun needed to come on the silver screen. After that he never looked back!

Squeezing the opportunity to its maximum

Sometimes getting the right opportunity may just not be enough, utilising that given opportunity in the right way and giving it your heart will justify your selection and place in the industry. Raj nailed this one!

Reaping the Fruits!

Raj didn’t stop with just one movie; he proved his caliber with his next movies Cinema Chupistha Mama and Kumari 21F, which is the reason why you are reading about him and we are writing about him here.

His Aim!

While acting happened to him by chance, his soul is always in writing and directing movies. He aims to write for Allu Arjun and Sunil in the near future, who also happen to be his idols.

Additional Scoop: Raj has confirmed in an interview that Sunil has agreed to act under his direction. In turn, it is Raj who is yet to give his idol a narration.

Though its too early to pressurize him with any expectations, lets just hope and wish him all good luck.

The Captain America trailer is out: and it’s bloody awesome!

Captain America trailer,Captain America civil war

The new Captain America trailer, titled Civil War, is out, and it blew our minds.

If you’ve watched The Avengers, you’ll know there is some unresolved friction between Ironman and Captain America. It looks like all of that tension has come to a boiling point with the new Captain America film – Winter Soldier.

Captain America, played by Chris Evans, has to face off with Ironman in this new trailer, which promises breath-taking action scenes. From what we understand in the trailer, politicians in the US are tired of the infighting, and have decided to ban superhuman activity.

The best part of the trailer however, is at the end, when Captain America and Winter Soldier together face off against Ironman.

Here’s the awesomeness!

Rahul Gandhi’s days of misery don’t seem to end.

A few days back, he visited Mt. Carmel College, Bangalore and decided to talk to the students about ‘important’ issues. Which is when the issue of ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign came up.

Talking about the campaign, Rahul raised his doubts. However, to his surprise, he found that almost everybody in the audience was very vocally in support of the campaign. Not one sto stop, Rahul urged the audience further, till it was one loud mess that he couldn’t get out of.

The Other Side of Sunny Leone

0
Sunny Leone

Sunny Leone is among the most famous Indians today, and the most searched Indian on the web.

However, apart from her career in the adult entertainment industry, Sunny Leone has become a household name thanks to her newfound career in films and item numbers. But there is another side of Sunny Leone.

One that is known to the world as much as her glamorous side. These points will show you the other side of Sunny Leone.

  1. Sunny Leone is in a happy, loving marriage.

Sunny Leone married Daniel Weber in the year 2011. Since then, they share a happy, loving marriage. Daniel also acts as her manager and the two are seen at parties and social gatherings together. From her Twitter and Instagram accounts, it is clear that Sunny Leone is in a very stable, happy marriage right now.

  1. Support to charities and organizations.

Throughout her career, Sunny Leone has been a vocal activist for many organizations and charities. Primary among them are the American Cancer Society and PETA – People for Ethical Treatment of Animals. She has run marathons, raised funds, and generated awareness for other charitable organizations. According to media reports, during the shoot of an item number, there were a few kids loitering around the sets. Sunny refused to shoot the song in their presence since some parts of the song were objectionable for children. She only agreed to shoot after the children had left. This shows that she has a sense of ethics as well!

  1. Adopting schools

Sunny Leone has adopted a school in Mumbai and has been regularly checking up on the progress of the school and the requirements of the children studying in the school. The school has more than 300 students and Sunny Leone’s contributions have resulted in the children being given amenities that they otherwise wouldn’t have access to.

4. Sunny Leone loves to cook

Contrary to her image in the media, Sunny Leone loves to spend a quiet day at home with her husband, cooking and having fun. Hailing from a Punjabi family, it is but natural that food will be an integral part of her life. Sunny Leone has revealed in an interview – “I cook a lot. I cook all the unhealthy food at home. When Daniel and I are at home, we enjoy cooking together. Our favourite is the morning time when we can cook together and eat breakfast when it’s nice and quiet. That’s our time when it’s just him and me and we sip our coffee and so it’s our favourite meal of the day.”

  1. Handles controversies with grace

From the time Sunny Leone has set foot in India, she has been subjected to intense media pressure from all directions. There were protests, and petitions were filed in high courts, demanding that she leave the country due to her work as a star.

However, Sunny Leone has handled it all with grace and poise, never once lashing out, losing cool, or creating a ruckus. She has proven that she is more socially aware and dignified than our major Bollywood stars who keep raking up one unnecessary issue after the other.

Aamir Khan Intolerance debate: Have we proven Aamir Khan right?

0
aamir khan, aamir khan intolerance, aamir khan interview

The Aamir Khan intolerance has boiled over from a press statement, into a national outrage topic. But it begs the question – did we prove Aamir Khan right that we are intolerant as a nation?

If you look into the matter closely, you’ll find that no where did Aamir Khan say that he wants to leave the country. In fact, he denounced the feeling of quitting the country. However, since it makes for spicy reading, media channels distorted the statement to make it seem like he said that he wants to leave the country.

What we don’t realize is we are all falling into the trap of the media. By outraging in the Aamir Khan intolerance debacle, by filling up our walls with status updates, we are actually generating fodder for media to come up with more articles, videos, and editorials on the subject.

And at the end of the day, we are all falling for the trap.

Firstly, I don’t understand why actors have to be asked political questions. Most of our biggest stars are barely educated. They got into films because of filmy families, and have been living in their own fantasy worlds for decades now.

You can’t expect them to have refined, nuanced political opinions. But that is what the media does. They ask political questions to actors, actresses, Babas, and other people who have NOTHING to do with politics. And when a foolish statement comes out, they play it on loop again and again, because they know there is a ready audience to lap up what is being said.

Having said that, let’s look at the statement that Aamir Khan made.

For years, he has been the most patriotic star in the country. He volunteered for national programs like ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’, ‘Incredible India’, and polio and cleanliness drives.

But by questioning their intentions, and asking them to leave the country, we are proving that we are indeed intolerant to listen to opinions that don’t match with our own. And look at how we reacted to the Aamir Khan intolerance debacle:

  • Nobody bothered to check the original video. To see what he ‘actually’ had to say on the matter.
  • We asked Aamir Khan to leave the country. Asking him to go to Pakistan and Bangladesh.
  • Posters and effigies were burnt by political parties, calling him an unpatriotic traitor.
  • Some guys went one step ahead and began down-rating brands that Aamir Khan endorses, like Snapdeal, which now has 1 star rating on Google Apps.

In a way, we are proving Aamir Khan right.

India is a democratic country, and every citizen has a right to express his opinion. And by tarnishing an actor for his opinions, we are proving that we are like other countries. For example, in countries like Pakistan, you could go to jail for a public statement.

Let’s all realize that we can rise above hate.

Nobody benefits from hatred, except political parties and the media. And a nation where a person cannot express his views, is a scary country. We are not North Korea, or Taliban.

If you do not agree with Aamir Khan’s statements, it’s fine. Life goes on, get busy with your work, and move on.

But if we keep doing this, no important person will ever raise his voice ever again, fearing backlash.

And if THAT happens, we would have proved that Aamir Khan was right all along. Is that the kind of India we want to live in?

RGV advices Star-Sons to Learn From Raj Tarun

0
RGV,Raj Tarun

RGV is known for ranting about anyone and everyone on Twitter. He doesn’t care if you like his tweets or not, he is going to give it on your face. And if he compliments someone, we know he is never going to do it smooth. Varma, who seems to stay miles away from things related to romance, recently, had all praises for the latest sensation Kumari 21F.

After the ugly episode of Raj Tarun calling RGV ‘Appa Rao’, which also looked quite fake as a publicity stunt, RGV showered his praises for Raj Tarun, this time for his performance in the movie Kumari 21F. But, he didn’t leave him alone. To add some spice to his compliments, he picked the star sons. He advised them to take lessons from Raj Tarun in taking cinema forward without assuming the audience to be idiots. Actually quite a good suggestion!!

Raj Tarun, good luck bro!

Kumari 21F : Was It Truly A Rip-Off? Take Your Side!

0

The latest sensation in Telugu Film Industry that released last week, Kumari 21F has been slammed on social media, once it was discovered that it was a rip-off of a French Film Lila dit ça (Lila Says). Kumari 21F is a film that has opened new perspectives for the current youth. A perspective about themselves, a perspective into their deep insecurities, a thought provoking them to come out of stereotyping girls based on their social behaviour.

The accusations lead us to question the creativity of the writer throwing Kumari 21F into a tricky situation. The major question lingering on all minds would be ‘Is Sukumar a creative writer or not?’

I take my side – Of-course he is! And I will continue to believe in his work.

RGV advices Star-Sons to Learn From Raj Tarun123 wirally

A HYPE MORE THAN A RIP-OFF

Now that Kumari 21F has paved a new mark for itself on one sidewe have to accept the bitter truth that this has similarities to Lila dit ça (Lila Says). Maybe not entirely, but the crux is kinda same. Everyone takes inspiration from someone or the other and that happens in every walk of life. So also in cinema! Kumari 21F is still a bold movie taking on the intricacies we have in Indian society on girls, and has a far livelier screenplay than the French one. It gave an undercurrent message that a past not worthy enough has got nothing to do with the present. The dialogues have reflected the current mindsets of youth and helped them to lead broaden their understanding of people.

GETTING ‘INSPIRED’ IS NOT A NEW THING

There have been many situations in the past where noted directors have taken ‘inspiration’ from Hollywood flicks and still won the hearts on this side of the globe. From SS Rajamouli, Sreenu Vaitla, RGV, many of our directors have taken movies from the west and induced it smoothly to suit our nativity. It happens everywhere across the film making industries.

With the kind of social media interaction we have now, judging happens on every move of yours. This has shown Sukumar in bad light, but it doesn’t change the fact that Sukumar is a creative writer. We have seen how he drives his movies through his innovative screenplay. When it comes to Kumari 21F, the screenplay obviously has his magical touch.

Just a ‘psst..’ feeling : If Sukumar had openly acknowledged that it was an ‘inpsiration’, the entire debacle could have been avoided. But we never know what were in the makers minds!

Ahmed Mohammed the 14 year old kid who was accused of bringing a bomb to school, has threatened to sue his school and city for compensation of $15 million dollars.

The incident had occurred on September 14th this year when Ahmed had brought a clock to his school as a project in MacArthur High School in Texas. Ahmed had repackaged an electronic clock in a pencil box and brought it to his school. However, his English teacher thought it was a bomb and reported him to the Principal. He was then handcuffed and taken to a juvenile detention facility, fingerprinted, and let off without any charges pressed against him.

The issue created a furore in the US, and the school was accused of Islamophobia. In response, President Barack Obama invited Ahmed to the White House and show him the clock himself.

The boy was also praised by the media, and even Microsoft sent him an entire set of tech goodies.

However, Ahmed’s family relocated to Qatar after receiving an invite from the Qatar foundation. In the latest reports, Ahmed’s family has sued the City of Irving and Irving School District for a collective $15 million for the trauma he was subjected to.

5 Reasons Why Kumari 21F is Bold and Beautiful!!

0

The understanding and thought Sukumar put into his production name ‘Sukumar Writings’ is enough to explain the intellect he puts into minute things. The opening credits itself gives you a feel that something amusing is coming your way. Kumari 21F, the first venture of Sukumar as a producer and to cut to the point, he has nailed it! Firstly, congratulations!!

Here are 5 reasons that tell you why Kumari 21F is hard-hitting, bold yet beautiful:

KUMARI HERSELF

Kumari (Hebah Patel), a model is bold, confident and outrageous right from the time she appears on the screen proposing Siddhu (Raj Tarun) at her first sight. More than cute she is confident and bold as a regressive girl by herself. She speaks volumes on behalf of many girls in these times about the traits they encounter in this smart world, quite convincingly. She indirectly feels proud and frustrated about a guy asking her out for Rs. 500. Proud – that she is enough cool that atleast a guy got tempted seeing her. And frustrated – not because he asked her out, but asked for a less amount of Rs. 500 (because she feels she is worth more). This initial establishment of her character was a beauty and is enough to understand her mentality over the action. While she goes to any extent for her boyfriend from arguing with him on why he should love her, the other end also speak of her soft heart when her boyfriend almost fails to understand the maturity he requires by saying ‘Ne prema ni na prema ni kalipi nene premistha le’ (to Siddhu)

SUKUMAR’s WRITING

If Arya was what Sukumar had given as a debutant, Kumari 21F is what a matured and bolder Sukumar gave us now. Sukumar’s beauty in writing is shown through the way he keeps the characters interesting all through the movie. The fluctuations in emoting that Siddhu goes through when he comes down to Kumari’s home drunk or the point where he comes and hugs her from behind on the terrace simply tells the grip Sukumar has in understanding people. He didn’t just write a movie’s script, he has indirectly opened doors to the today’s youth in understanding your partner with an under current message of not listening non-sense from people around you. When you are walking out after the movie, you are in love with everyone in the film equally. Especially Kumari!!

SIDDHU – HE IS ONE OF YOU!

Siddhu (Raj Tarun) is a character who suffers with insecurities in life, be it with his girlfriend or dad. He is a kind of guy who wants his girlfriend to be a virgin and hence goes under lot of turmoil of insecurities having a girlfriend like Kumari. But, there comes the test of your trust and belief in her. What you believe will be a truth and what you don’t will not be one. How is it going to matter in any way? Siddhu who struggles to understand this all through, emerges out stunning towards the climax. Baring the episode with another girlfriend (Madhu), Raj Tarun has come a long way from the time we used to see him on YouTube movies a few years ago.

PALNATI SURYA PRATAP (Director)

While most of his work has been over shadowed by Sukumar, equal credit should be given to Surya Pratap for off pulling off this narration convincingly. Telugu cinema has always banked on safer subjects when it comes to play with the youth’s emotions. Getting even the raunchy romancing scenes aptly on screen without any cliches involved, Pratap did showcase his skills. Baring only those scenes involving Siddhu and Madhu (Siddhu’s other girl friend), which will easily surpass your mind after watching Kumari and her theories, was the only part not executed that convincingly. But, before we go judging on that, do you have the maturity in understanding to take up such subject and emerge successful?

THE FRIENDS(ASSETS) WHO PROVED THEIR WORTH – DSP and RATNAVELU

Knowing the fact that DSP and Ratnavelu contributed to this movie for their friend Sukumar who ventured into production without taking a penny is itself such a sweet thing. Keeping that apart, Devi’s BGM was one the best we have ever come across off late and is a perfect muse to Ratnavelu’s lens. The credit of Kumari looking so pretty equally goes to Ratnavelu. He made the lower middle class locality look even classy protecting the art director’s essence with his magical camera. Devi known for his situation blending songs is bound to get the youth grooving to ‘Love cheyala vaddha…’

Bottomline : Just go and watch it! Go, right now!!

How to defeat ISIS? And what you can do sitting at home

0

The Paris Attacks on November 13 shook the entire world, and brought the ISIS into focus.

Since then, the response of the world has been more or less predictable. There have been three main responses to the attacks:

  1. STRIKE HARDER: US and France have resolved to strike at ISIS harder, by increasing air raids at ISIS strongholds in Iraq and Syria. Russia is already bombing the rebels against the Assad regime. France has declared a state of emergency and is ‘at war’ too.
  2. STOP REFUGEES: There have been umpteen demands to stop any more refugees from coming into Europe, since ISIS has warned that they would send terrorists along with harmless refugees. This puts at risk more than a million refugees who have escaped from horrifying conditions in Syria and other countries. The US has already voted to reduce the flow of refugees.
  3. HATRED AND BLAME GAME: All over the internet, there has been an outpouring of blame-games and hatred, further deepening the divide between Muslims and non-Muslims. Go to the comments section in any website, and you’ll find the hatred spewing in all directions.

But nobody knows if these three strategies are going to work, even to some extent.

Can you say with conviction that further bombing will result in lesser terror attacks? Or that spreading hatred and playing the blame game will reduce terrorism?

Sadly, the answer in both the cases is a big NO.

So how then does one stop the menace of ISIS? A menace that threatens to eat up the entire humanity in its wave?

The answer is a multi-pronged approach. But this is how to defeat ISIS.

  1. END THE SYRIAN STRIFE:

While it’s true that the ISIS has its foothold in Syria, not many know that the country has been grappling with gigantic problems since 2011. The country is being bombed by USA, Russia, the Assad regime, and rebels who are funded by the US.

Unless the Syrian problem is resolved by world powers unequivocally, there cannot be an end to the problem. The reason ISIS got popular is that it milked the problems of the locals and showed them a solution (albeit by force). For any true solution, the tangled mess that is Syria today needs to be resolved first. Here’s a video explaining the mess in Syria today.

  1. TRACK THE MONEY:

In investigative journalism, ‘Track the money’ is the most common way to go ahead in finding the root cause of any scandal. ISIS is not a rogue organization that is a mere collection of a few psychos. It is a well funded organization that gets its resources from – illegal oil drilling and selling, illegal selling of antiques in the black market, and from banks they looted in Iraq and Syria over the last year. It is reported that ISIS makes $50 million dollars a month from illegal exporting of crude oil. Moreover, Russian President Vladimir Putin recently revealed a list of 40 countries that either directly or indirectly funded the Islamic State in its activities.

Shutting off the taps of funding to ISIS will be a key way to defeat the ISIS, as their funds are already dipping, thanks to people fleeing the regime, which automatically means lesser taxes.

  1. STOP MINDLESS BOMBARDING OF CIVILIANS:

The USA tried this technique in Afghanistan, and then in Iraq, but it ended disastrously on both occasions. By now, it is amply clear that air raids and bombarding have very little effect, apart from the huge loss of civilian lives and property.

As the West continues to bombard the Mid-west, there will be more and more people losing their lives, family, homes, and livelihood. This makes them ready supporters of any militant regime that promises them revenge. Mindless bombing creates more enemies than friends, and from the lessons learnt in Iraq and Afghanistan, has no tangible benefit.

  1. POLICE THE INTERNET:

As it is very clear, mosques are not the primary place for hatred and brainwashing. Most of it is happening over the Internet. On last count, ISIS was supposed to have over 50,000 Twitter accounts, apart from presence in other social media websites.

Countries will have to get stringent about policing the Internet, even if that means sacrificing our net-liberty for the near future. Recently, it was revealed that ISIS has a 24 hours Jihadi helpline, this just goes to prove how they have effectively learnt to use the internet to their benefit.

We need to beat them at their own game. While Anonymous has threatened to take on the ISIS, there’s only so much they can do, since they don’t operate within the parameters of law. It is up to countries to monitor their internet content and keep a track on problematic sites and forums.

  1. STOP SPREADING HATRED:

This is most important, and this is where you and I can contribute.

The ISIS wants the world to boil. It wants to create an environment of hatred, anger and mistrust. It wants to create a divide between Muslims and non-Muslims, as it needs people who are alienated.

The more we quarrel among ourselves on religious grounds, the better it is for ISIS.

It is up to us to stand up and show ISIS that we will not fall into their trap. That we may be divided by religions, but it is our similarities as human beings that keeps us together.

If you meet someone from the other religion, be nice to them. In times of crisis, human beings need to stand up and take the initiative.

After all, good has always won over evil.

Hasn’t it?

After Paris attacks Pakistani Comedians come up with a great response

0

The Paris Attacks shook everybody who witnessed them, but we somehow succeeded in letting ISIS win.

It was the ISIS’ target that we fight among ourselves on religious grounds, and it’s sad that we fell for the trap right away. Within a few hours of the attacks, till today, you’ll find internet communities with Hindus and Muslims fighting with each other on religious grounds.

While the Muslim community is under intense pressure to raise their voice against Islamic terrorism, a bunch of comedians from Pakistan came up with the greatest response possible.

After the Paris Attacks Pakistani comedians got together to express their frustration. Here’s their heartfelt response video to everybody accusing Muslims of not standing up for their religion.

Peace!

7 Most Haunted Places In India That Will Send A Chill Down Your Spine

0

by Taarini Chandramouli

Do ghosts and spirits fascinate you? Or do they send a chill down your spine? Whether we believe in them or not, when someone shakes you amidst utter silence, you definitely skip a heart beat. While we have heard many unnatural stories since childhood, some of us might have got scared while some stayed unaffected. For those who were scared of haunted stories and places, go down at your own risk. And the unaffected lot, why don’t you try checking out this below list of some of the most haunted places in India which you may choose to visit when around or drop out from your bucket list.

P.S. for the faint hearted, grab on to something tight, you may need it!

1) Bhangarh Fort

The ghost town of Bhangarh is one of the scariest, spookiest places you could possibly imagine, not to mention, one of the most haunted places in India. This Fort in Rajasthan has been listed as a location with paranormal activity. Incase you have plans of visiting this spooky tourist destination, be sure to do so before sunset. As per the government’s regulation, visiting beyond sunset is forbidden. Like every place, this also has a unique story behind it. There was once a magician who fell in love with the local princess of the town. Not everything was as per the magician’s wish and the match between the princess and the magician was unimaginable. Being quite the master of dark magic, he decided to cast a spell on her to make her surrender to him. However, the princess learned of his plans and found a way to kill him. However, before his death, the magician cast a dark spell on the palace which caused its doom.

2) Shaniwarwada Fort

This magnificent fort located in Pune is often the topic of conversation when it comes to haunted places, as it is for its architectural marvel. It is believed that the level of supernatural activity is on its zenith on every full moon night. The mysterious story behind the strange activities suggests that a young prince was brutally murdered here which is maybe why his spirit haunts the place and when the night falls, sounds of him shrieking can be heard. This place is definitely not for the faint hearted!

3) Jatinga

Located in a small village in Assam, it is popular worldwide for its unexplained phenomenon of bird suicides. Most of the migratory birds visiting the area never leave the village. The case gets even more inscrutable as these birds always plummet to their death between 06:00 p.m. to 09:30 p.m. on the moonless nights of September and October.
These mass suicides only occur on a specific 1 mile by 600 feet strip of land and this phenomenon is said to have occurred year after year without a break for more than a century. No scientific phenomena or reasoning has been found to support this unusual activity.

4) Ramoji Film City

Being one of the biggest film cities in the country, this place is home to a lot of hotels which have been involved in a lot of controversy because of the reported “supernatural activities” in and around them. The lights kept on the ceiling have been observed falling down without any explainable reason. Light and cameramen sitting with the lights have been pushed and suffered grievous injuries, and no other person is reported nearby. The ghosts and spirits in this place are said to attack women more. Food left in the rooms gets scattered on the floor and strange marks are found on mirrors. Must visit haunted place in India in case you want to experience the paranormal for yourself.

5)  The Brij Raj Bhavan Palace

Located in Kota, this is one of the most ghostly places in India. This old palace converted into a heritage hotel is haunted by a British ghost who was killed during the Revolt of 1857. Major Burton (the ghost) along with his sons was shot right inside the palace and therefore, he haunts the place. The ghost however is believed to be harmless, except on a few occasions when night guards have reported being hit by an invisible hand.

6) Agrasen-ki-Baoli

Situated in Delhi, this location gained popularity after the movie PK. An Ancient Step-Well situated right in the heart of central Delhi takes you by surprise if you are out on the streets for a walk. Ironically, it is actually quite impossible to miss having a unique blend of architecture with a signature design known to have existed only centuries ago. An invisible body is said to follow you as you walk around this place and the pace rises as you start speeding up.

7) Chandan Nagar

A small colony located in Pune, Chandan Nagar is one locality which is avoided my most locals during hours post sunset.  There is a ghost of a little girl who roams the night in a white frock, cradling a doll in her hands! She appears at the strike of midnight hour and comes screaming at you if you happen to cross her path. There is a story behind this just like most other spooky places. About 10 years ago the girl was killed at a construction site and has haunted the place since then. People have reported that she smiles at you if you look at her.

These are just a few of the many haunted and spooky places in India. Almost every village in India has a haunted tree or a well which grandmothers advise not to go near. For all you brave hearts and explorers, the mysterys don’t end here!

8 Characters of Nayantara That Shows She Is A Perfect Muse

0

Ever since this CA aspiring girl appeared opposite Rajnikanth in Chandramukhi, she has attracted plenty of eye balls. When she toned down to a more raunchy physique, the craze was such that the famous character of Bobby Simha in the movie Soodhu Kavvum, builds a temple for Nayantara in his village and gets kicked out of his home for doing so. She doesn’t care to be on top of the list, yet carries that magnetic charm attracting everyone equally. While if you think she was the routine heroine sorts doing all glam-doll roles, you are wrong! Take a look at the below characters of her which comprises a mix of all kinds. She has definitely made her mark in this field.

BILLA

The character of Sasha shot her into a new limelight. Post Billa, Nayan was in the biggies league

YARADI NEE MOHINI

Remake of the Telugu movie Adavari Matalaku Arthale Verule. Nayan pulled of Trisha’s role with ease. Contrast to what people saw her in Billa, she showed a completely new Nayantara on the screen.

BODYGUARD

The movie that was remade into 4 languages had Nayantara doing the original in Malayalam for which she even received the Asianet Film Award for Best Actress in Malayalam.

SIMHA

In Simha, though she appeared for a brief moment, the impact she left was huge. The ethnic look she donned attracted everyone. Classy!!

SRIRAMARAJYAM

Sri Rama Jayam Nayanthara Stills

Not everyone gets to portray mythological roles in these days movies. She got the opportunity and one can say that she simply nailed it. The role that even fetched her a Filmfare and a Nandi award for the Best Actress.

KRISHNAM VANDE JAGADGURUM

After a sabbatical of 11 months from acting, Nayantara chose to play a journalist in this one and she was truly convincing. Remember the goosebumps we got when she said ‘Amma tommidi nelalu mosthe puttam anukuntaaru kondaru, naana pakkalo padhi nimashalu sukhapadite puttantaaru kondaaru.’

RAJA RANI

Raja Rani was her first movie after her long break from acting in Tamil. It was a perfect comeback and she regained her status as a leading actress with just this one role of Regina.

ANAMIKA

While not comparing this one with Vidya Balan, the movie itself didn’t work as such. But, Nayantara was applauded big time for her role as Anamika.

Watch her out in her latest movie Naanum Rowdy Dhaan opposite Vijay Sethupathiwhere she plays deaf girl and has already received many applauds.

Wishing Nayantara many more happy returns. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Covering Navarasas : 15 Years Of Jr. NTR

0
jr.ntr

Apart from the name, possessing even the looks of Late Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, was only an advantage for NTR Jr. Born into the Legendary family of Nandamuri, NTR Jr. faced the camera at the age of 8 along with his grandfather NTR. From then it was always destined for this third generation actor to make it on to the big screen. As per expectations, he took up a full time acting career at the age of 17, where K Raghavendra Rao, who appreciated his acting in Bala Ramayanam recommended SS Rajamouli, who is now the face of Telugu cinema on a global front, to debut his career with NTR Jr. for the talent he got. Since then NTR Jr. has almost become the major player and leading star of the Nandamuri clan.

Mitchell Johnson Retirement: Batsmen of the world heave a sigh of relief!

0

Mitchell Johnson, Australia’s leading fast bowler for the last six years, has announced his retirement from international cricket.

The 34 year old, who terrorized batsmen all over the world with his fearsome pace and bounce, announced his retirement during the ongoing tournament with New Zealand. “I feel now is the best time to say goodbye,” he said. “I have been lucky to have a wonderful career and enjoyed every moment playing for my country,” Johnson said.

In a career plagued by injuries, Mitchell Johnson on his day was as destructive as a tsunami, gaining dangerous bounce with his high-jump action and sling action delivery. Johnson finished his career as the fourth highest Test wicket taker for Australia, behind Shane Warne (708), Glenn McGrath (563), and Dennis Lillee (355).

Johnson took 313 Test wickets and 239 One Day International wickets, and yet, the one lasting memory of the bowlers will be the manner in which he terrorized English batsmen during the 2013 Ashes tour played in Australia.

So brutal was Mitch that one of the English players, Joe Root, had to quit in the middle of the tour, citing ‘mental fatigue’. Here’s a video of Mitchell Johnson at his best.

What is Chhat Puja: Why is it celebrated in North India

0

Chhat Puja begins for millions of Hindus across UP and Bihar today. But what really is Chhat Puja?

Chhat Puja is an ancient Hindu ritual to worship the Sun god and Chhathi Maa (ancient goddess Usha). The puja conducted to thank the Sun God for sustaining life on earth and for fulfilling the prayers of devotees. Apart from UP, Bihar, the festival is also observed in other areas with Hindu populations, including Nepal, and some regions of Mauritius, Fiji, Guyana and Jamaica.

NAHAY KHAY

The festival is a detailed four day celebration which requires faith and steadfastness. The first day is called Nahay Khay, in which the devotees take a dip in a river and carry the water back to their home for Puja. The women observing the festival partake of food only once in a day.

LOHANDRA

The second day is Lohandra. This is a day of rigorous sacrifice, as women who observe the festival abstain from drinking even a drop of water for 36 hours. Delicacies like kheer, puris and other traditional food items are prepared and distributed among family and friends.

SANDHYA ARGHYA

The third day is called Sandhya Arghya, and is spent in preparing offerings at home. In the evening, the entire family travels to the river or lake and offer prayers to the setting sun. Folk songs are sung and the entire area is filled with festivities and celebrations.

USHA ARGHYA

The final day of the celebrations is Usha Arghya, where the entire family goes to the river banks and prays to the rising sun. Special dishes are cooked and distributed among family and friends. The food is strictly vegetarian, and mostly prepared without the use of onion and garlic. Chhat Puja is celebrated by all the Hindu families, unless there is a death in the family that year.

This marks the end of the four day festival, as people get back to their lives, having observed four days of prayer, ritual, and revelry.

In case you’re celebrating Chhat Puja, here are heartfelt wishes from everybody at Wirally!

Jil Jung Jak’s First Song ‘Shoot The Kuruvi’ : Melodiously Mind-Blowing!!

0
Jil Jung Jak’s First Song ‘Shoot The Kuruvi’ Melodiously Mind-Blowing!!

Do you remember Vadivelu’s version of three types of girls in the movie Kaadhalan (Premikudu in Telugu) – Jil Jung Jak? Taking this as a title, Siddharth is all set with his next dark comedy which he has also produced. Ever since the first look of this movie came out, it has stood out in every aspect. The movie which has no female lead is also another interesting aspect of Siddarth’s daring experiments these last few years.

Now to add to the hype, the first song of the movie ‘Shoot The Kuruvi’ was released by Salman Khan himself. And I must say it is truly mind-blowing. I am just starting to wonder what a personality Siddarth is going to be in the years to come. If you look at his movies once he moved down big time to Tamil cinema, Siddarth has got even better – Jigarthanda –  Kaaviya Thalaivan and now Jil Jung Jak. Just bring it on!! Anirudh’s voice and Vishal Chandrashekar’s composition are in perfect harmony with a little rap in between by the veteran actor Radha Ravi.

A must listen!!

Paris Attacks: Pianist plays John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’

0

The terror attack in Paris has been acknowledged by the Islamic State, amidst threats of more such attacks.

While the internet has stood up to show solidarity for the Paris attacks, one pianist paid the most unique of tributes to the Paris attacks. Early the next morning, a pianist was seen playing John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ on his piano outside the Bataclan stadium where one of the blasts took place.

By the end of the song, the pianist is seen wiping away tears and leaving the scene. While the internet was raving about the person, it has been revealed that the pianist was David Martello. He told reporters that he was in Germany when the attacks happened, and immediately rushed to France, hauling his piano into his trailer.

This wasn’t the first time the 34 year old Martello was paying a tribute to the deceased. He had also paid a tearful farewell after the Charlie Hebdo shootings.

On Saturday, he chose John Lennon’s iconic song ‘Imagine’. ‘Imagine’ was written by Lennon and questions the use of religion, wealth, possessions and borders, and asks you to imagine a world without all of this.

It’s difficult. But it’s not impossible.

Here’s the touching video:

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today… Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace… You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

While you were discussing Paris attacks, Chennai rains killed 60 people

0

While the world was caught up with the Paris attacks, a tragedy has struck our own shores, in the form of Chennai rains.

Schools and colleges have been shut down, and intra-city train services have been suspended as well. Met officials have been warning of a depression caused by low pressure stemming from the south east Bay of Bengal.

While the threat of a depression has now passed, Chennai is still grappling with the reality of the death toll, which has risen to 60 now.

Here are some images from the Chennai rains:

Capture

It is sad that the entire issue got sidestepped due to the Paris Attacks. The Met department has declared the threat of depression to have passed, but the preparedness of a metro city like Chennai lies in doubt after the intense rainfall.

Weekend Satakam : Sathhi Gaadi Satakam

0

Sumathi Satakam has always been taught to us by our parents and teachers in order to conduct righteously and to induce some social values into us. A Satakam usually conveys some moral about how one should behave and abide by himself or herself.

These were written in a time when the social behaviour was stable and when the societal issues like male chauvinism, casteism etc were still predominant. They were the reflection of the society and not of the author. If you keep these thoughts aside and open yourself to understanding the political behaviour and liberal tradition of particular sections back then, the Satakam can actually educate you big time.

The Sumatee Satakam is also one of the earliest Telugu works to be translated into European languages. Sri Riasat Ali Taj (1930-1999) a prominent personality from Karimnagar has made poetic translations (Manzoom Tarjuma in Urdu Rubaiyaat) published in popular Urdu magazines and news papers in early 1950s.

These days none of us would want to be preached on anything. We are our own bosses. Fine! But, the reason our education system has adopted these Satakam is for the betterment in our personal life and to be smart enough to sustain ourselves. Since literature is changing every day, those phrases might not be that interesting in our day-to-day lives now. Without preaching, here we are trying to bring the best of the much forgotten Sumathi Satakam in an even more understandable way. Nachithe Sathanna ki o OO esukondi..

Ten 90s Memories You Haven’t Touched After Growing Up

0

Childhood is strange.

Things that are closest to you become meaningless in a few years. And as you blow off the dust and take them out, you smile at how important these thins were to you.

But a few more years pass.

And you realise it wasn’t those objects as such. It was the care and attention and importance you gave them. It’s those feelings that you miss, not so much the objects themselves.

Somehow, after growing up, nothing is sacred anymore. Technologies change every few years, your favourite object becomes outdated, and you attach yourself to something else. To celebrate Children’s Day, here are ten objects from your 90s memories that you stopped using after you grew up.

Happy Children’s Day

Though as we grow older, our movie tastes might have changed. No issues!

But there will be few movies which will throw you back into that mindset where you loved to be a kid. Here are 6 Telugu movies for kids, by kids, of kids.

LITTLE SOLDIERS

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GY4-QO3buYU

Probably the favourite for most of the kids who grew up in the 1990s. The story of 2 kids who lose their parents in an unfortunate accident and are forced to stay with their grandmother and the tangles involved in taking over their property. A laugh riot all through, Bunny (Kavya) and Sunny (Aditya) are simply adorable. Remember that line.. baypaddaadu..baypaddaadu..

ADITYA 369

Traveling back in time – the thought itself is amazing enough to keep you glued to watching this movie. Singeetham Srinivasa Rao’s story when heard seems complicated but his narration along with Jandhyala’s dialogues make it very simple and soothing. Perfect story-telling!

MAYABAZAR

It’s surprising to pick this one here, right? Yes! The language used is not at all the that bombastic sorts of language. Very lay-man, very simply yet wittily narrated story. While it has brilliant insights on technical end, it is also very simple when you nothing of it all and watch it as a sweet story.

JAGADEKA VEERUDU ATHILOKA SUNDARI

A pure fantasy! A deity, Lord Indra’s daughter, coming down on a trip and loosing her finger and he encounter with Raju and the kids is all a perfect fairy-tale story we all would hear from our grannys.

JAMBA LAKIDI PAMBA

Now, without knowing the technicality of gender change, this movie speaks volumes of gender equality in modern society in a funny situation. With the amount of fun involved its a worthy watch for any kid.

SISINDRI

Before more of Hollywood movies came into our TVs and computers, this attempt to re-make Baby’s Day Out did turn out to be success with mostly the kids. Akhil Akkineni who barely knew that he was in front of the camera was just apt with his cute smiles and the Indianised version of this adventure drama struck chord with everyone alike.

Here was our list. Enjoy your weekend with any of these or all. Please share any other movies which you felt alike in this genre. NO, NOT Sahasa Baaludu Vichitra Kothi. 😀

Should we really be ‘celebrating’ Children’s Day?

0

Cute-Children-Day-HD-Wallpapers

Another November 14th is here, and we celebrate Children’s Day.

But have you ever asked yourself why? Why do we celebrate Nehru’s birthday as Children’s Day?

Nehru showed no special affection for children, and in fact, his handling of primary education in India is actually criticized by historians and experts. It is mostly considered a Congress PR exercise, since it was only after Nehru’s death in 1964, that the date was shifted to November 14th, his birthday. This led to the title of ‘Chacha Nehru’, and immortalized him as being fond of children.

But should we be celebrating children’s day in the India of today?

While India is making progress in all fields and it fills up with pride, the matter of children are not very optimistic. Sit back and give it a thought. Here are the basic facts:

With more than a third of its population below the age of 18, India has the largest child population in the world. However, that is no cause for celebration. In fact, the status of India’s children is in dire straits.

INFANT MORTALITY RATE:

Infant mortality rate is the number of children dying below the age of one, for every 1000 childbirths. Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) is the number that helps us gauge how healthy a locality is, and also the status of the mothers and women in the area.

Infant mortality rate is caused mainly due to malnutrition, infections, and weak primary health facilities. In spite of numerous initiatives by the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), India still has a shockingly high Infant Mortality Rate.

MALNUTRITION:

In spite of celebration over ‘Achhe din’ and making industrial progress, the problem of malnutrition is often not spoken about. It is shameful that children have to die out of hunger in a country that has some of the richest people in the world.

More than 1/3rd of the world’s malnutritioned children live in India. India ranked 20th among leading countries in the 2015 Global Hunger Index, ranking only behind Pakistan and Afghanistan among South Asian countries. Strangely, this issue never comes up in any discussions.

PRIMARY EDUCATION:

India’s primary education in rural areas is in tatters. In spite of initiatives like the Sarva Siksha Abhiyaan and School Chalein Hum, we are yet to see real change in India’s primary education system, especially in rural areas.

In spite of education being declared as free and compulsory upto the age of 14, India witnesses a high drop out rate in schools. In fact, in some areas, the drop out rate is as high as 52%.

CHILD LABOUR:

According to the 2001 census in India, there were 1.26 crore children working as child labourers in India. One can only assume that the number has gone up in the fifteen years that have passed.

Even more worrying is the fact that a significant number of these children (12 lakhs) work in dangerous and hazardous industries, which harms their lives even after they grow up and leave the hazardous working conditions. One major reason for this is that in rural areas, the children mostly take up the work of their parents. This results in a lot of children taking up their parents’ occupation from the ages of 8 and 9. And once they have crossed their teens, it is very difficult to rehabilitate them into schools and education.

It is easy to dismiss these are pessimistic reports. It is easy to close your eyes and pretend the problem is not real. But what if all of it is true?

If you want a real picture of India’s children, go to your native place and check out the status of schools there. You’ll find most government run schools are being run abysmally.

How you can help?

1. Volunteer to teach at least one child. If that is difficult, volunteer in organizations that take evening classes for children who work as labourers.

2. If you’re having chai at a shop and see a kid working, question the shop-owner and inform him that it’s illegal. Most aren’t aware of the rules and regulations regarding child labour.

3. If you want to spend your time (or if you have a year off after college), volunteer for organizations like Teach For India, which aims to use youth and their time to better the conditions of primary schools in India.

4. Spread the word. Educate your friends about the problem. You’re a drop in an ocean. But an ocean is made out of many such drops.

Happy Children’s Day!! 😀

#PrayForParis – But is anyone listening?

0

ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attacks in Paris.

While there are striking similarities between the Paris attack and the Mumbai attack of 2008, it is futile to get into the blame game.

The fact is, the Third World War has already been going on for more than a decade now. While there is so much hatred flying around, we at Wirally decided to give you a moment of silence and peace.

So close your eyes, and say a silent prayer for all the innocents killed around the world. For the innocents who are slaughtered in the name of god. #PrayForParis

Peace!

9 Bobby Deol facts that WON’T blow your mind

0

Bobby Deol has spent close to two decades in the industry and the entire industry recently got together to not give a single damn.

It’s strange how Bobby Deol got sidelined. I mean, compared to the present crop, he’s half decent. And yet, luck and the Box Office have been extremely brutal to the guy.

*

Aren’t you tired of all the ‘mind-blowing’ facts that sites serve up to you everyday?

Just a constant flush of ‘mind-blowing’ facts, ‘tear-jerking’ videos and ‘self-questioning’ statistics. Every day. Every site.

To ease off all the pressure, we decided to present you 9 Bobby Deol facts that WON’T blow your mind at all. Not a chance in the world they’ll blow your mind. You could sit through all of them and not feel a thing.

Just like watching ‘Aur Pyar Ho Gaya’.

So here we go.

Did that blow your mind? Huh? Thought so!

We could do this all day, I swear.

Because you know, who gives a damn?

Caught you by surprise there, didn’t we?

Life is tough, man.

Well, yeah.

You’ve got lots of time in life, bro!

May be you should try reading books, Bobby. May be you should.

Well, he never claimed to have set the Internet on fire.

Lots of love,

Bobby.

Sachin Tendulkar takes on British Airways

0

Sachin Tendulkar

Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar blasted British Airways for their callous attitude, choosing to call it ‘don’t care attitude’.

Sachin Tendulkar, with 8.4 million Twitter followers, and close to a billion die-hard fans, surely will be an opinion-changer, and the topic has already begun to trend on Twitter.

Using the hashtag #NeveronBA and #BadServiceBA, Sachin revealed that his family member’s waitlisted ticket wasn’t confirmed in spite of seats being available, and their ‘don’t care attitude’.

Ripples were felt all over Twitter, and British Airways replied, but their reply wasn’t very smart either.

Asking Sachin for his full name, address
and other details.

The issue has already caused a storm on Twitter and other social media circles.

But we have a question.
Is it a case of a personal incident?
Or is a celebrity allowed to use social media if he/she isn’t pleased with a particular service? What do you think??

Bihar Elections: Was it the right decision?

0

by Tripada Bharati

Though it was hardly a surprise, the recently concluded Bihar elections trumpeted victory of the Nitish-Lalu alliance, while the BJP and allies were reduced to rags.

Much like Delhi assembly elections held the same year.

Bihar-Assembly-Elections-020153

Questions are being asked from the progressive, educated, relatively well off middle class about how gainful the results are for the Biharis who voted generously. While Liberals have their own reasons to cheer, do the masses have any reason to dance in joy for Nitish-Lalu?

The answer seems a plausible YES and a plausible NO. Let me explain how.

There is no doubt that a breeze of change has blown over Bihar since  became the Chief Minister of Bihar in the year 2005. The law and order situation, a major challenge, has significantly improved. Schemes and policies empowering women were delivered to women without any delay and Bihari women vouch for this till date. Hardly a surprise then, that votes by women consolidated in favour of Nitish Kumar. Reports in print and visual media confirm that conditions of roads and electricity significantly improved during Kumar’s two straight terms.

But what led to the negative image of Nitish Kumar, were some of his political maneuvers; like the elevation of Jitan Ram Manjhi to the post of CM, and removing him later on, leading to a huge rattle and crackle across the political arena. We all know that these political stunts are quickly forgotten by the masses whose chief element determining their votes are the actual work done by the government at ground level.

This is not to say that caste politics in Bihar is a matter of yesteryears. Certainly not!

It has played a grand role in the grand victory of the Grand Alliance. Besides, there is no denying the fact that Lalu got a sanjeevani (life) by accepting Nitish as the face of the Grand Alliance. His nearly depleted vote bank of ‘backward and marginalized’ once again galvanized, turning the wind in his favour.

Having been out of power for almost a decade, there is reason enough to believe that Lalu has to change his ways for staying relevant in the current political scenario. Moreover the executive command in the hands of Nitish is a sign of relief for many. If they are indeed serious about playing a national role in the coming years, Nitish has to ensure that his development agenda does not get derailed. So, Yes! We may hope for a developing and progressive Bihar.

Now turning to the other side of it, what if Biharis have made a fool of themselves by believing in the Lalu-Nitish duo? The chances are high, given the dark times Bihar suffered under the Lalu regime. How much ever Lalu empowered backwards socially, he failed miserably in terms of economic empowerment. His long tenure of almost 15 years reeked of corruption and bad governance.

So the fears of jungleraaj are not totally unwarranted. Having a bigger seat share allows Lalu a lot of clout in the government. But it is too early to say anything about the return of Jungle Raj. People have certainly voted for development and good governance promised by Nitish Kumar.

Only time will tell if the hopes of masses are realized, or dismissed!

Akhil Review : Firecracker That BOMBED!!

0

Coming into the movies with a filmy background has its merits and de-merits. You have loads of expectations set on you before you even think of starting off. The third generation of the Akkineni family made it to screen this Friday, officially joining the star race.

Akhil is a story about Akhil (Akhil) who falls in love with Divya (Sayeesha) and goes chasing behind her till Spain, where she gets tangled between two groups, protectors – African tribe – and muggers – Russian gang. They are fighting for Jua, a metal object that protects the world. Why Divya gets stuck there and what Akhil does to free her? What’s Jua all about? – I would have loved to tell all these but, it doesn’t seem all that interesting even as I type it out. So, find out yourself if it seems interesting to you.

The movie started on a high note with Akhil’s introduction but started to only be a bomber as the movie progressed. Protecting the world is one concept which is adopted mostly by international movies. Good. While it is a great thought to adopt such storylines in Telugu,  Akhil proves that even the best of directors need utmost care in handling such subjects. Else it’s a Diwali BOMB!

GIST of AKHIL, The Power of Jua

* Akhil Akkineni shone on the screen with his screen presence, which was expected. But the elements of dance and the flexibility his body had in those actions sequences shows us that Akhil will be a promising star. His diction needs to improve a lot, along with expressions.

* Sayeesha was bubbly playing her heroine stuff. Big debut but sadly not a great movie to debut with.

* VV Vinayak has been doing more entertaining movies since Krishna, coming out of his action-faction tag and he did succeed with Adhurs and Alludu Seenu. But, Akhil was…. Meh!!

* Nithiin’s production values are top notch. But the VFX were a huge disappointment. In the current scene where Telugu cinema is attempting to match international standards of VFX, you shouldn’t compromise on such things. People are observant, and that makes a lot of difference.

* Acting Dept.: Sapthagiri was a surprise. Brahmi was his usual self, with laughs that salvaged the second half especially. Rest of the cast was just mediocre.

By now you would have understood what the movie has turned out to be. If you can’t wait to watch Akhil Akkineni, you can definitely go and watch. No one is stopping you! But, he is the only thing to watch that too for his screen presence. If you have some patience to wait for his next movie and watch him then, that’s not a bad idea at all. You could do that too! Infact I would suggest the latter!!

Those Awesome Scenes From Krish’s Movies That Won Everyone’s Hearts

0
Director Krish at Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum Audio Release Photos

Krish is the first answer on behalf of Telugu cinema to show that we as an industry make meaningful cinema. Cinema, that you would love to keep it close to your hearts. You can pick any of his movies and there would be great depth you could derive from them. Jagarlamudi Radhakrishna or Krish as we know, explains through his movies that every one of us have a humane side to us. If that part is tapped, there is immense self-discovery that happens once you come out of the hall.

With his four movies, he has built a brand for himself. We know that this man can never go wrong. The depth his characters have during their conversations throw a thought into our minds asking us to think beyond what he shows. Someway he just connects to our conscience and if you want to know when those moments come, be alert when you get goosebumps while watching his movies. Those are the moments you are shaken within. Here I want to talk about those moments which were really hair-standing from this genius’s work.

GAMYAM – When Gaali Seenu is shot in the back!

gayam

A story about two people, Abhi and Gaali Seenu, with different outlook towards life travelling together discover themselves in the process. After clashing with the militants, Seenu and Abhi escape while Seenu tries to help Abhi out and in process gets shot. Its Abhi who feels the pain, a pain which he was never used to earlier in his life.

VEDAM – Cable Raju walking out of the 5-Star Hotel with stolen money and handing it over to the old man.

Vedam, a movie with great soul set a benchmark in TFI. Amidst his selfish needs, when Cable Raju realizes his mistake and looks at his face in the mirror, he answers himself the mistake he is doing. He walks out telling his girlfriend the truth that he is not rich and goes back to the hospital giving back the old man his money. Possibly one of the best scenes in last decade.

KRISHNAM VANDE JAGADGURUM – The scene where B.Tech Babu performs the play written by his grandfather – ‘Manishi ela edhagalo chepe naatakam’

The entire song of ‘Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum’ sung by Balu towards the climax where B.Tech Babu is performing his grandfather’s play and avenges the killing of his parents simply keeps your heart beat pacing all the while. Blending the theatre narration and cinema with a great plot tangling with human emotions was indeed a brilliant piece forming for a perfect climax.

KANCHE – When Haribabu sends away all the refugees on a boat and goes back to fight the Nazis.

The latest sensation Krish created was with Kanche. The strong character of Haribabu was a huge asset. He was a man who made his voice heard many times in the movie. A promise to his girlfriend, Sita that he would protect her brother and justifying ‘yudham na kosamo nee kosamo mana desam kosamo kaadhu..REPATI kosam’

Team Wirally wishes Krish many many happy returns. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

President Obama declares Diwali a holiday in the US

0

President of the United States of America Barack Obama declared a holiday in the US for Diwali to commemorate the festival of lights among Hindus, Buddhists, and Sikhs who live in the United States of America.

Festival of Lights

In his address to the White House, this is what President Obama had to say:

It is fitting that we begin this week leading up to the holiday of Diwali – the festival of lights, where members of some of the world’s greatest faiths celebrate the victory of good over evil, knowledge over ignorance.

It is a time for rejoicing, but also a time for reflection. To reach out to those in need. In that spirit of celebration and contemplation, I am happy to light the White House diya, and wish you all a happy Diwali and a Saal Mubarak”.

This was followed by a priest chanting shlokas and calling for peace.

We wish you all a happy Diwali!

12 Awesome Thieves Who Got Caught on CCTV

0

There are thieves, and then there are super-thieves.

If you’ve watched Catch Me if You Can, or Oye Lucky Lucky Oye!, you’ll know what we are talking about. There are some people who take the mundane skill of shoplifting and turn it into an art form.

Here are twelve thieves who got caught on CCTV, but alas! It was too late.

1. THE SUITCASE WALE ROBBERS: How do you steal from a shop that sells large suitcases and baggage bags? They are large and you can’t really sneak one into your bag? How then?

Very simple, you don’t go after the bags in the first place!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ke1zrBq1jd0

  1. THE KAHAANI GHAR GHAR KI GANG

Wolves, it is said, hunt in packs. Seems like so do thieves. This trio consists of two women and one man – an average Indian family. But it’s only when the salesperson isn’t watching that you realize what’s wrong with them!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFBhAhYd-BM

  1. PARDAI HAI PARDA…

This woman, dressed in a burkha, deserves special mention for her courage. She gets the shopkeeper to try out a few earrings, and while he goes back to keep the earring in its place, she works her magic. While other thieves generally try to make as less eye contact as possible, this woman is a few inches away from being caught, and yet she does it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S54pubUAVNo

  1. PILING IT ON!

When shops announce ‘Clearance sales’, they have these sort of people in mind. Another group that works together , these women do away with not one or two items, but THREE entire bundles of clothes!

https://youtu.be/irB0JO8UtrA

  1. ANYTIME MONEY

Clearly an inside job, this dude has the keys to an ATM, and seems in no hurry at all. He takes out the key from his wallet, opens the ATM machine, puts the money in his bag, locks it, and puts the key in his wallet back again. With the nonchalance of someone just picking his nose on a Sunday afternoon! Well played, bro!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVH8jurhBHM

  1. MERE HAATHON MEIN NAU NAU CHOODIYAN HAIN

What’s the easiest way to pick some bangles? Hide it up your burkha, of course! Making use of the garment to support all her evil schemes, this woman plays it cool while robbing this jewellery stores.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aaw02hQ3MY8

  1. JUST A FAMILY OUTING

The best way to launch a burglary expedition is by keeping it in the family! This middle aged man and his teenage daughter look like harmless shoppers. They pile on the charm, and act cool as cucumbers all through. The most remarkable part is her strategy is the simplest – just pocket many items, pay for one, and leave without giving rise to any suspicion.

  1. DEFINITELY MALE INSANE

Had enough of women picking jewellery off showrooms? Meet Ramu-Shamu, the suave guys who take action against illegal two-wheeler parking on the road. By getting rid of the bikes in the first place. One guy waits as the other gets on the bike, removes a pliers, messes with the wiring, and kicks the handle out of its lock. Shamu then joins Ramu, and they whisk away with a new, shiny Pulsar!

And you thought your Tenth standard marks were going to help you. Yes.

  1. WHAT’S IN THE CAR?

To pull off the perfect heist, you need to have it all planned out. Like this dude here, who waits for the perfect time, and divides his work into three stages. Such is the planning that at any stage, if something goes wrong, he is nowhere in the picture! Brilliant!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUJJdBIh0nU

10.MAIN CHOR TU SIPAHI, DONON IDIOTS

If there’s one criteria for being a robber, it is that you must look intimidating. These three dudes who walk into a Pakistani bank look like the last time they ate was when they were given Horlicks as kids. Scrawny, wearing loose, casual kurtas, these guys are as intimidating as a pack of butterflies. No surprise then that the security guard (with his paunch and all!) manages to fight and win against them. I wonder what their Team Meeting sounded like when the thieves went back home.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zztjokMxTzg

  1. THE GUY WHO HASN’T HEARD OF PLASTIC MONEY

Adding to list of kurta-clad Pakistani robbers is this one-man army. He removes his gun, fiddles with it, struggles with the bullet, and then goes batshit crazy. Running out of options, he shatters the glass in front of him, and jumps over to the counter.

Poor guy probably doesn’t know money isn’t stored in drawers all the time. After rummaging through the computers and keyboards, he picks up what looks like a bag of A4 Bond sheets and scurries away with it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1z1RDWw8mOQ

  1. LOLLIPOP!

Three words – smooth as silk.

This dude walks into a mobile shop, and does nothing for a few seconds. He’s checking out the phones on display, whiling away time. When he finds everybody looking away, he stretches his hand out…

Delivery Boy By Night – Author During The Day : An Inspirational Story

0

When you intend to do something by hook or by crook, you are determined not to let anything stop you doing it and are ready to use any methods. When you accomplish your tasks, you have not only built a personality for yourself but you also tend to become an inspiration to many. To many, who are still aspiring in pursuing their goals. Arun Bhimavarapu‘s inspirational story gives us an example of what we can achieve all by ourselves if only you believe in your work.

Sandeep Katakam, one of Arun’s friend, who feels lucky to have met him has taken inspiration from him and shared his story. He also revealed a touching secret behind the name Arun (his original name being Pavan Kumar) and the obstacles which were taken as challenges and emerged as a winner.

Direct from Sandeep’s diary :

“Hi guys, This is the story of my friend, Pavan Kumar Bhimavarapu (Arun Bhimavarapu), an upcoming novelist.

He recently released a novel, ‘After that day… I never saw her again.’ It started with great reviews and the sales chart is doing very well.

But, that’s not the main reason I am writing this post. It’s something much deeper than that. I had known this guy from the last three years. We were once colleagues in TCS. Back then I used to remember him with his smile, which never left his face. Even on the day when he suddenly resigned his job, without any specific reason.

‘I don’t know… something here doesn’t feel right’ he said. ‘Such an idiot!’ I thought.

My friends from his project told me that his family was a normal middle class one, but may be his father can send him money for his basic needs until he settles down somewhere else. And I never saw him in office after that day.

It’s was the morning of a normal boring sunday, on which I went for some grocery shopping, I saw him again in months. He was working in the departmental store that I walked into. It took me minutes to convince myself that it’s him. I hesitated to go talk to him while he saw me from the distance and waved to me. I waved back. One simple wave, and that gave me a friend for life. An inspiration that never stopped surprising me.

I saw him take blows from life, one after the other. I saw him work part times to meet his daily expenses and write at nights. I saw him visit number of production houses with movie scripts and being sent out with empty hands. I saw him deciding to write a novel and being rejected by publishing houses. I saw him deliver 60 shipments a day in Flipkart, to collect money for self-publishing. I saw him sell his watch, a Titan sports edition that he bought with his first salary, to print flyers for the novel. I saw him distribute them to people near colleges and software companies. I saw him fight with all that he had, to reach what he love.

But… I never saw him cry. Not even being low. I never saw him at least thinking to step back, even in the hardest times of life.

After taking all the struggles to bring out the novel, he took only half the happiness. He made his name Arun Bhimavarapu instead of Pavan Bhimavarapu. Arun, his friend who always wanted to be a writer but never did. It takes more than a friend to do that. It takes a great human.

I still thank god for making me walk into that store that day. Without which I would have missed a friend like him – a compassionate and helpful one as he is. And I would have definitely missed my chance to tell the world those words he once told me.

‘Learn… either living life by your own terms, or waking up to a nightmare every day.’ “

Winning appreciation from the renowned Telugu Literate himself, Yandamuri Veerendranath, Arun (Pavan) is setting towards the path his heart has called for, writing!

‘Where there is a Will, there is a Way’ – Arun, you have proved it yet again. We wish you all good luck for your future endeavors. May your words reach the maximum number of people. Write! Write!! Write!!!

Theatre, A Way To Explore Yourself : Athala Kuthala Paathaalam !

0
Theatre, A Way To Explore Yourself Athala Kuthala Paathaalam !

Somewhere deep within everyone of us, we have a zeal to do something close to our hearts. We name it as our passion. While it is not as easy as we talk about it nor it is as tough as we think about it. Its all about how much you get up and act towards to it. Amidst the dilemma whether to do or not to do, stands the test your individuality. Its a pain or a pleasure, the perception lies within yourself. With numerous questions spinning around you, answering them in the most pleasing way atleast to yourself will even define you.

Theatre, before it became a source of entertainment for the audience, it was as sacred as a ritual, it was a tradition. As societies grew more complex, these spectacular elements began to be acted out under non-ritualistic conditions, hence the first steps towards theatre as an entertaining activity was taken.

Blending the two elements of Passion and Theatre beautifully, Sravan Pandrangi ‘s team has brought out Athala Kuthala Paathaalam, which are three primary layers of the Earth, Athala – the outer and exposed layer, Kuthala – The substantial layer of earth’s crust that lies in between the exposed and the deepest parts of earth and Paathala – the deepest and the final layers of earth. Metaphorically meaning the Act , the Thought and the Process involved in converting your thoughts into actions, in the perspective of a Character.

SHOT AT SURABHI THEATRE :

Shooting in the famous SURABHI theatre, it was not an easy job. While the permissions on one end and the strength of the script on the other, both needed to strike a balance with the ability of the team to pull it off. With the name generating positive vibes and the trailer making itself heard across the social media, the whole team is positive with their work and looks to have delivered spot on.

It’s a story about three characters, a father and his two sons interconnected with a play. Their glitches involved in achieving their passion and the amount of selfishness that is bound to play a part when you want to answer yourself in the society.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UlqHE4b-Ss

The trailers are out and it has garnered great response so far. Check them out for yourself too!

All Stars Cricket: Which is the better team between Sachin’s Blasters and Warne’s Warriors?

0

The All Stars Cricket league is all set to kick off between Sachin’s Blasters and Warner’s Warriors. With two star-studded teams consisting of veterans (and Ajit Agarkar!!), the league has been started to promote cricket. The first season will be played in the USA, and the second in UAE.

While the two teams are absolute dreams for anyone who has watched cricket in the 90s, which really is the stronger of the two teams?

We sat down to analyse both the teams, and these are our results.

SACHIN’S BLASTERS:

With an average team age of 42.73, Sachin’s Blasters have both an advantage and a disadvantage. On the positive side, quite a few players in the side retired recently, so there will be match experience among the team. On the flip side, Warne’s Warriors have an average team age of 42.64.

Top Order: Consisting mainly of Indian veterans, the batting order consists of Sachin Tendulkar (42), Sehwag (37), Saurav Ganguly (43) and Brian Lara (46). Most of these guys were playing professional cricket till two years ago, so the batting line up looks stronger than Warne’s Warriors, at least on paper.

Middle Order: Mahela Jayawardene (38) provides solid foundation in the middle, and having just retired, he has match practice on his hands too. Carl Hooper (48) and VVS Laxman (41) retired quite a while back, so one can’t say with confidence about his form.

Spin bowling: Muralitharan (43) and Graeme Swann (36) are set to handle the spin bowling. Swann retired a few years ago, and Muralitharan is an all-time great, so you can expect them to spin some magic here as well.

Fast Bowling: The Blasters have a younger team here as well, with Klusener (44) and Akhtar (40) getting good support from McGrath (45), Shaun Pollock (42) and Ambrose (52). While Ambrose might not be half as threatening at his age, he is one player who has generated curiosity since he was always a man who spoke very little and glared a lot.

WARNE’S WARRIORS:

With an average team age of 42.64, Warne’s Warriors are the younger side on paper. Also, with most of their players from Australia, England and South Africa, they might have a fitter team than Sachin’s Blasters.

Top Order: With Matthew Hayden (44) at the top, they are assured of an explosive opening batsman. Hayden was in good nick when he played for CSK a few years ago. Michael Vaughan (41) retired in 2009 after a few years in bad form, so I’m not counting on too much from him.

Middle Order: This is clearly Warne’s strength, with an enviable line-up in the form of Ricky Ponting (40), Jonty Rhodes (46), Jacques Kallis (40), Andrew Symonds (40) and Sangakkara (38). Sangakkara retired a few months back while still at his peak, Kallis has been a run machine for two decades now and Ricky Ponting seemed in decent nick at the IPL two years ago. If the middle order clicks, Warne’s Warriors have a fantastic match on their hands.

Spin Bowling: With Shane Warne (46) at the helm, and Saqlain Mushtaq (38) and Daniel Vettori (36) for support, Warne’s Warriors seem to have their spin attack sorted.

Pace Bowling: This seems to be a problem area for Warne’s Warriors, with their three key fast bowlers well over the age of 45. Courtney Walsh (53) is joined by Wasim Akram (49), Allan Donald (49), and Ajit Agarkar (Isko kaun laaya yaar?).

OVERALL VERDICT:

Sachin’s Blasters have a better top order batting line up, and even if one of the Big Four click, you can expect carnage. At the same time, Warne’s Warriors have an absolutely superb middle order, with three batsmen who count among the greatest batsmen of the modern era.

Spin bowling is slightly tipped in favour of Warne’s Warriors, but fast bowling is a stronger department for Sachin’s Blasters.

So there you have it. If there are four departments in a cricket team, Sachin’s Blasters are stronger in two aspects, and Warne’s Warriors in two.

With such evenly balanced sides, the match could literally swing either way. The match will air tomorrow on Star Sports, make sure you catch it. We will cover the match in our post-match analysis.

But why did they take Agarkar, man? Why??

Why Kamal Haasan Is The Coolest Actor Even For Generations To Come.

0

If there is one person who can do a meaningful film all by himself, the first name to come to anyone’s mind will be Kamal Haasan. An actor from the age of four, now knows in and out of this beautiful art of expression. One can bet on the versatility of Kamal, not only with the different characters he has portrayed but excelled in it too. He has not done his job just by acting as needed, there have been multiple times where he has gone way beyond whats needed and dedicated much more than what one can think of doing for the character. From getting a 9 hour make-up done during his sleep to burying half of his legs into the ground for a few needed angles and emoting equally in all situations made us feel as if those characters are made exclusively for him.

His whole life is a library of cinema. In fact in true sense, cinema is truly what this legend lives and breaths on. He was never carried away with fame or popularity, his only motive was to get better and better with cinema and provide us, audience a treat for our eyes with his imagination. Here are some snippets which tell you why he is possibly the coolest actor and will remain so.

Trivikram’s Heroes Never Killed Their Villains

0

Talking about the matala matrikudu, there is no end. His movies are of total substance. He never uses or used even a word that feels unnecessary. His story telling is also of some substantial standards. His movies have great characters and greater conversations, no doubt! But, what’s more interesting is the way he treats and gives some ethics to his characters. If the villains are those gruesome and cunning planners, Trivikram’s heroes are equally hilarious and witty speakers.

Having directed 7 movies, Trivikram has few ethics for his heroes to follow. While on one side somehow the villains end up getting killed giving a formula ending. But, none of them are actually by the Hero. Yes! NONE. Let’s directly check how he dealt with them.

ATHADU – MALLI SHOOTS HIMSELF

1

Confronting each other in the church, Nandu is given a gun by Satya Narayana Murthy to fight his battle. During the brawl, the gun is picked by Malli and while trying to shoot Nandu, it backfires into his eye because of the marble that gets stuck while the kids were playing with it. VILLAIN KILLED HIMSELF!!

JALSA – DAMODAR REDDY DIES WITH A SUDDEN STROKE

2

Taking Damodar Reddy head on, Sanjay wipes out Reddy’s army sending jitters of fear down his spine. He gets paralyzed with that treatment from Sanjay and ends up on a wheelchair. Once Sanjay kicks that sword inside the road completely, Damodar’s heart paces and stops suddenly ending his life. HE DIED BY HIMSELF!!

KHALEJA – A RELIGIOUS KNIFE FROM THE TREE STRIKES GK

4

After the villager’s God (Raju) untangles all the mystery around people dying in their village demolishing GK’s empire, Raju is frustrated with GK and gives back GK the pain he put the villagers through. While expressing his frustration, a religious knife from the tree unwinds itself due to the wind and strikes GK on the neck. GK IS KILLED BY HIMSELF!!

JULAYI – SITARAM KILLS BITTU

3

Ravi plays the trick aptly. Throwing the gun next to Bittu and giving him a lead to shoot him in turn, while Sitaram, who is unaware that there aren’t any bullets in the gun, shoots Bittu. BITTU WAS KILLED BY SITARAM!!

S/O SATYAMURTHY – SAMBASIVA RAO DIES IN THE ACCIDENT

Veeraswamy, the one behind Devraj, kind of a villain invites his own death by over speeding the red flag and ends his life by himself. HE DIES BY HIMSELF!!

The other films of Trivikram have no competing villains, hence they don’t have the necessity to be killed. Now, we are not sure if this was a co-incidence, because in every situation the Hero had ample opportunity to kill the villain. But, he didn’t. Let’s see if Trivikram has some answer to this. I am pretty sure he would have some reason for doing so.

Which are the Best and Worst Advertisements in India

0

Advertising, someone said, is Prostitution of Art.

You create a work of art, but it’s not an expression of your feelings or creativity, but to sell a product/service/idea.

Advertising has been around since the time human beings began buying and selling products. Whether it was the fish-seller shouting out to people, or the high-tech digital ambush campaigns that run across media devices today, advertising is as old as the art of selling itself.

If you look at the history of advertising, you can’t say with conviction that it was always sensitive and mature. Our ancestors in ad-agencies took whatever route there was, to get their point across.

-cadilla

vintage_ads_jack_600x450

In India, the earliest known forms of advertising have been billboards and print ads. Before that, there were local ads and walls painted (before they got peed on). However, the largest campaigns were run for large organizations (Lux, Air India), and all of them were run by foreign run agencies that had Indian branches.

Advertising over the ages has changed a whole lot, due to a number of factors. Sensitivity has become a topic of debate today, and you can’t just have a cement ad with a girl coming out of the water in a bikini.

Oh wait, you can. Sorry.

Advertising in India is also regulated by government orders on what can/cannot be advertised, and monitored by the Advertising Standards Council of India (ASCI). In the NDA’s first term, alcohol and cigarette ads were banned from print and television. Since then, companies have gotten by around the regulations, peddling us their products, using creativity, and highly underpaid copywriters to do so.

Over the decades, there are a few brands that have built a reputation of coming up with innovative ads for their products. While some, well, suck.

Here’s a list of the best and worst advertisements in India.

             WORST ADVERTISERS IN INDIA

  1. IDEA MOBILE NETWORK:

Every time I see an Idea Network ad, two things happen.

a) I get into a bad mood, wondering how dumb people can get so rich so as to design an entire campaign. b) I call up my dealer and ask him to step up his game. There are other brothers getting much better stuff than me, clearly.

Idea Internet network, which began as a collaboration between Aditya Birla, Tata, and AT&T Wireless, the company is now almost wholly owned by Aditya Birla Group and its subsidies. For one of the oldest companies in the Indian telecom scene (the company was founded in 1995), they sure make shitty ads.

Someone at Idea Cellular decided to tackle every single problem of the nation by using Idea Telecom connections. Overpopulation? Give Idea 3G to people, so they’ll have less action. Caste discrimination? Everybody will be called by their Mobile Numbers. Climate Change? Use mobile instead of cash transactions.

Idea has made it such a habit of coming up with shitty ads, that it doesn’t even surprise people anymore. Who comes up with these ads?

Well, No Idea.

  1. FAIR AND LOVELY

How India’s fairness cream industry for men began is a very interesting story. Apparently, it was found that 40% of the fairness creams being sold were being used by men. And as a result, we began to have fairness creams for men too.

But the title of the worst advertiser has to go to the baap maa of fairness creams – Fair and Lovely. For twenty years now, they have been selling just one idea – You have to be fair in order to succeed. Want to be a cricket commentator? Get a fairness cream. Pilot? Fairness cream. Dancer? Ditto. I mean, look at Michael Jackson!

Fair and Lovely is not only terribly offensive; they are utterly dumb as well.

  1. PEPSI

One of the biggest brands in the world, Pepsi Cola began in 1898 when a pharmacist arrived at a winning solution. The company went bust in 1923 and 1931, but recovered and is present in nearly every country today.

Pepsi Cola has a history of advertising that’s both enviable and questionable. In the 1940s, their President Walter Mack, a progressive man, began a campaign that was led by African-Americans. This led to them facing insults and threats by Ku Klux Klan, a white supremacy group.

In India, Pepsi follows its global strategy of signing the biggest stars. In fact, one Pepsi ad in the US was infamous as Michael Jackson burnt his hair in the shoot. Pepsi ads in India mostly featured Shah Rukh Khan or Sachin Tendulkar. Due to their immense likeability, the ads were popular.

But judged purely on the idea, the ads weren’t much. Most of their campaigns are vague – Oye Bubble India, or Change the Game.

Pepsi makes it to our list simply because they have such large budgets, and could do so much more (like one of their competitors, who will feature in our list later).

  1. Colgate

Founded by William Colgate and first sold in the year 1873, the brand Colgate today belongs to the American conglomerate Colgate-Palmolive. Colgate is one of the world’s largest companies dealing in tooth-related products – paste, brushes and dental floss.

However, their ads in India leave much to be wanted. Traditionally, Colgate ads featured a dentist in a white coat giving random dental advice to strangers on the road. This is how all Colgate ads go:

*Girl sitting in the park eating an apple alone* “Aah!” She looks at the apple, and there’s blood on it.

Suddenly, a dentist appears out of nowhere. ‘You have bleeding gums, you need Colgate Toothpaste’

(Looks at the camera) ‘All the dentists in the world prefer Colgate themselves, as it kills 99.9% germs’.

(Nobody bothers about the girl, who’s probably walking back depressed about her life in general, and stalker dentists in particular).

Colgate has used the same campaign for more than decades now, and while admittedly there isn’t too much you can do with a toothpaste brand in terms of creativity, they surely could have done better.

  1. Harpic:

Launched in the 1920s in England and presently marketed by Reckitt Benckiser, Harpic is one of the world’s leading toilet cleaners. Harpic in India, however, is cursed by every family in the afternoon while having lunch. For years, Harpic has had one overall strategy – to freak you out.

Just when the entire family sits down for lunch, one guy in a blue cap appears on the TV. In seconds, he welcomes himself in, and walks up to the stranger’s bathroom, without even enquiring if the husband is in the house in the first place.

What follows is a close-up of the family’s dirty toilet, making you think twice about your daal-chawal. By the end of the ad, the toilet is sparky clean, but your appetite has gone for a toss. Honestly, man. I understand it’s a toilet cleaner, but do the ads have to be so shitty?

              BEST ADVERTISERS IN INDIA

  1. Bajaj Auto

Founded by Jamnalal Bajaj in 1930s Rajasthan, Bajaj has used advertising to create a connection with Indian audiences, thanks primarily to their spectacular ‘Humara Bajaj’ campaign in the 90s. The ad still counts as one of the best ads in India.

In the 90s however, Bajaj lost much of its ground to Hero Honda, thanks to their sturdy, mileage wale bikes. In 2001, Bajaj came up with its biggest game changer – Pulsar, with the tagline – Definitely Male.

Since then, while not all their bikes became as successful as the Pulsar (some of them simply vanished like ‘Wind’ and ‘Caliber 115’), Bajaj has consistently come up with attractive ads to peddle their bikes.

  1. Vodafone

Founded in 1991 in Britain, Vodafone is the second largest network provider in the world (second only to China Mobile, because you know, population). With presence in 21 countries and partnerships in another 40 countries, Vodafone has consistently used great advertising as their strategy.

The company arrived in India by buying off stakes in the company earlier known as Hutch Essar, which had great ads by itself.

Since the brand Vodafone arrived in India, they consistently churn out creative ads, the most prominent of them being the multi-award winning Zoo Zoo series, which ran for four years during every IPL.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8f9JSBOvi7c

Vodafone continues to make short, smart ads that aren’t preachy, or obsessed with blowing your mind. Their ads are smart, cheeky, and to the point, making them one of the best advertisers in the country.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WN18AXmNff4

  1. Fevicol

A company that was born and brought up wholly in India, Pidilite’s biggest brand is Fevicol, a company that has time and again released winning ads on TV and print.

Fevicol’s ads have won awards both nationally and internationally, and while the number of ads have come down, the brand has acquired a cult status in India due to their good work over the last two decades.

  1. Coca Cola

The third largest brand in the world, Coca Cola originated in the US in the year 1886. Deriving its name from its two main ingredients – Coca leaves and Kola nuts (caffeine), Coca Cola has historically been driven by their innovative advertising campaigns.

In fact, Coca Cola first popularized Santa Claus in red attire for their company, and it has become the world standard colour for Santa Claus today. Coke has historically run mega campaigns in two directions – the Holiday season (for Christmas), and sports sponsorships.

In India, since the economic liberalization in 1992, Coca Cola has consistently used brilliant advertising for their campaigns. The foremost among them being their brilliant Thanda Matlab Coca Cola campaign in the early 2000s, starring Aamir Khan.

To this day, Coca Cola comes up with smart, attractive brands, giving the brand a young and fresh image.

  1. Titan/Raymond

Though the brands have nothing in common, both Titan and Raymond have run campaigns that reflect essentially Indian values of respect, love and memories. Using signature tunes that have today become iconic, Titan and Raymond ads find their place in the Best advertisers list for their timeless ads.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aA59YKQw6WE

  1. Dairy Milk

Started way back by Cadbury’s in the year 1905, Dairy Milk has concentrated its campaigns around their one defining quality – milk chocolates. In fact, their logo has two glasses of milk pouring out into a chocolate.

In India, Dairy Milk arrived with a splash, with the ad of the girl running into the stadium when her boyfriends hits a six.

Since then, Dairy Milk has run beautiful campaigns centered around traditionally Indian festivals like Diwali and Holi, apart from abstract concepts like ‘Pappu Paas Ho Gaya’, ‘Real Taste of Life’, and ‘Kuchh Meetha Ho Jaaye’.

Currently on their ‘Kiss Me’ campaign, which is partly playful-part sensual, Dairy Milk is another Indian brand that comes up with creative ads.

One Movie By Our Telugu Directors That Stood The Test Of Time

0

Every generation has their set of directors. From KV Reddy, A Kodandarami Reddy, K Raghavendra Rao to SS Rajamouli, everyone in due course of time have churned out and contributed movies to the industry. A myth doing the rounds is that most director’s best work is usually the first few movies because they are more hungry at the start. Well, maybe our expectations exceeded their imaginations later.

All through their tenure of making movies so far, every director has that one movie which stands as the best of their work. Possibly that one movie has set the bar of expectations for us. While some have been constantly working on making better movies every time, these are the movies of each director that stand best till date.

TRIVIKRAM – ATHADU

1

The first 30 mins is enough to give you the feel of watching something gripping. A master piece from Trivikram. Yes, it has been inspired from Shooter. Fine! But, that’s not just done. Every word uttered has some wit attached to it and very sensibly written.

SUKUMAR – ONE NENOKKADINE

4

By the time people actually started to appreciate the movie, it was already making its exit from the screens and somewhere deep within, the fans should be blamed for not receiving the movie at the start giving a false feedback. However, it is now a cult hit and will continue to be one.

SS RAJAMOULI – EEGA

5

Rajamouli is like the ranker in a class. Everytime he delivers, he does it big and to his maximum capability. We can see his constant hard work and growing as a film maker from Student No.1 to Baahubali. And of all Eega stands truely close to everyone’s heart. It was surprising as well as over whelming to see such a movie from our Telugu Cinema. He has constantly been making us proud.

VV VINAYAK

3

A director known for his commercial elements and style of cinema, Vinayak’s Tagore minus those songs was truly gripping and did leave an impact on us after leaving the hall.

SRINU VAITLA – ANANDAM

2

A soothing love story in the hill station and some great feel with the situations that are created. Great music and lovely humour, everything came in a n awesome packed and made us Anandam.

KARUNAKARAN – THOLIPREMA

8

A classic which will remain in the books of Telugu Cinema Lovers FOREVER. The first new age cinema that started a revolution for college romantic movies in Telugu.

PURI JAGANADH – POKIRI

9

Idiot was the movie Puri established himself as a director, but Pokiri was the movie that set the bar with Mahesh Babu enhancing Puri’s character Pandu.

BOYAPATI SEENU – SIMHA

6

He is the care of address for his style of regional action and emotion. With Simha we got to see an all new Balayya.

SHEKAR KAMMULA – LEADER

7

Dealing with a social issue, Shekar dealt an issue in an utmost subtle way and emotion. His Leader was not loud. He was like a common man speaking out our issues and reacting like us.

GUNASHEKAR – OKKADU

15

After a series of revenge dramas that were being constantly running in the industry then, Gunashekar’s Okkadu dealt with scenarios which left us with ‘awwww’s everytime he came to save the girl.

CHANDRASHEKAR YELETI – ANAGANAGA OKA ROJU

11

After giving us Amrutham on TV and a next-to-door adventure like Aithe, Chandrashekar’s Anaganaga Oka Roju was a movie which kept us curious all through the movie. Light humour and everyday Hyderabadi characters made it even engrossing to us.

BHASKAR – BOMMARILLU

12

The best movie which defines a relationship between a father and son, might have possibly solved many guys issues unknowingly too. A gem of a title, Bommarillu and a gem of a movie.

DEVA KATTA – PRASTHANAM

10

Showing our bitter truths in life that we go to any extent when it comes to satisfying our greed and desires that are buried deep within us, Deva Katta’s Prasthanam was a hard hitting and a gripping tale of a son, step-brother and step-dad.

KRISH – VEDAM

161

Krish doesn’t preach in his movies, he soothingly blends in some human values which we would love to pick. Vedam shows how us that somewhere deep within we all are humans and proving yourself at that point could actually define your existence for a lifetime.

This Telugu Rap Song Is Bound To Get You Grooving

0

A Rap song is about delivering some great content with a good rhythm and rhyme. The flow needs to be catchy and grooving. While Rap in Telugu is feat not many have tried. Adding some honey to this grooving number, Vidya provided the needed romantic feel to it. Crossing more than 1lac views, this has caught quite good attention. Check out the song here and keep it on repeat. Na madhilo…na na madhilo.

Why Virat Kohli Is The Icon Of This Generation

0

Every generation has that one player who becomes an icon.

That one player who goes beyond the game, records, and his skill. The icons are not generally the perfect players. Most often, there are other players who are better than them at different points of time. But it is the personality of the person that elevates them from a good player to an icon.

In the 70s, there was Sunil Gavaskar. Batting without a helmet, he smashed the most fearsome bowling attack of all time for 13 centuries, the most against a team after Don Bradman.

In the 80s, there was Kapil Dev. A seemingly rustic man who could deliver with the ball or bat on a good day. On his best days, he was good with both.

The 90s had Sachin Tendulkar. The boy wonder who grew up into a man, and represented the growing status of a nation that was making its mark on the global map.

The 2000s had Sehwag, that mad, mad man who adhered to no rules in particular, did what he wanted, and generally reduced the opponents to tears.

The 2010s, in that sense, belongs to one man, and one man only – Virat Kohli.

Here’s why Kohli is all set to be the iconic player of this generation.

1. There’s simply no one better than him at this point:

Even though he might be going through a slump right now, Virat Kohli has left everybody else far behind when it comes to batting statistics. He has won more matches than anybody else, and has scored more runs.

Since 2010, Virat Kohli has been going through a purple patch, inevitably performing in crucial matches, fourth innings, and while chasing down the opponent’s target batting second. If you still have any doubts about Kohli’s contribution in the last five years, here’s all you need to know:

virat record

2. He plays rough, is a No-Bullshit player

In earlier times, importance was given not only to how good a player you were, but how much of a gentleman you were off it. Credit was given for being a gentleman, for upholding the spirit of cricket, and for being polite to opponents. Then, Steve Waugh took over the captaincy of the Australian team. Since then, cricket hasn’t been the same.

Virat Kohli is the primary example of a cricketer of the modern era. An era that has neither the time nor the patience to be polite. A match has to be won, pressure has to be applied, and it needs to be done, and he’ll do it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-zdTVndUW0

3. Captaincy Material:

For long, our best players weren’t the captains. Azhar and Ganguly led Sachin during his best phase, Kapil and Gavaskar famously had tiffs between the two of them regarding captaincy, resulting in a musical chairs of sorts.

Kohli, however has proven that he is more than ready to take over as captaincy. Having captained his team in Under 19 and domestic cricket, Kohli began his stint as captain during the Australian tour impressively, slamming four centuries in his first four Tests as captain.

As we move towards a new era in cricket laced with different morals, Kohli seems the apt person to take over the reins of Indian cricket.

4. Representative of the youth of the country:

In earlier times, cricketers kept their personal lives away from media glare. Even if a large number of cricketers had affairs, they kept it hidden, or refused to acknowledge it publicly.

However, Virat Kohli has been open and forthcoming about it right from the beginning. This is representative of a new India, one that is not afraid to come out in the open about their relationships, one that doesn’t see it as taboo anymore. He and Anushka Sharma speak for each other, and support their respective professional careers.

virat-anushka

However, whether India as a nation is ready for this, is still another matter altogether. From being mobbed and abused on Twitter, to being blamed for all his failures, Anushka and Virat Kohli have been facing the brunt for keeping their relationship open.

5. Not afraid to speak his mind

Unlike other players, Virat Kohli is unafraid to speak his mind about an issue. Whether it is asking fans to think before they abuse, or about his thoughts on a particular issue, Virat Kohli is not afraid to speak honestly about any particular issue.

In fact, after his spat with Mitchell Johnson in 2014, he told the media that he doesn’t respect Johnson. Hardly something that someone from the Gavaskarean era would do. Almost Australian in this sense, Virat Kohli seems like a serious, honest, and unafraid individual, and this has all the makings of a role model for the children of today.

Whether you love him or hate him, you cannot deny that Virat Kohli is the face of Indian cricket for the next few years. Since he rarely seems to be out of form, here’s wishing him lots of success and happiness on his 27th birthday.

TFI Diaries : The Genius Of Jandhyala

0

Every time I meet someone who is talking about Telugu cinema. In my mind, I am judging the person. Somewhere in the discussion, I slip in a Jandhyala reference, and wait to gauge his reaction. If the person talks highly of Jandhyala, the discussion proceeds further. Else, it’s Game Over.

TFI Diaries The Genius Of Jandhyala

Having acquired the cult title of Hasya Brahma, Jandhyala created a new cult of comedy. His films contained rip-roaringly hilarious plots, that were brilliantly written and expertly executed. Jandhyala’s films converted everyday, mundane talks into classic, witty one-liners. The comedy was healthy and superbly written. He really meant ‘navvu aarogyakaram’. 😉

DISTINCT STYLE:

A Jandhyala film can be recognised from a mile away. Like Bapu and Vamsy, Jandhyala adopted and perfected a classic, unique styles. You could recognize his film from a single shot, there was a certain honesty in his films. He wasn’t attempting to take you to Switzerland with the blink of an eye. His films were grounded in the everyday, in simple, day-to-day problems.

Starting as a playwright, Jandhyala made the transition to the silver screen in style. He achieved recognition first with scripts he wrote for Adivi Ramudu, Shankarabharanam and Sagara Sangamam.

TFI Diaries The Genius Of Jandhyala mudhamandaram

These three films are still talked about in hushed whispers, such is the aura around them. It was only a matter of time before Jandhyala would make his directorial debut, and he opened his account with Mudda Mandaram.

It was hardly surprising that he met with success. Over the next few years, Jandhyala churned out his trademark genius plots, tackling unorthodox issues. Ananda Bhairavi and Padamati Sandhya Raagam are two of his remarkable films.

No Irrelevant Characters or Content

Jandhyala never etched irrelevant characters. His characters had so much characters, that they are permanently etched in cinema lovers’ memories. Classic examples are his characters of Lakshmipathy in Aha Naa Pellanta and as Brahmi sweetly calls ‘Mahaprabhu’, who bugs with his stories in Vivaha Bojanambu. They will always stand out frame to frame.

TFI Diaries The Genius Of Jandhyala comedy

By the early 90s, Jandhyala was an institution in himself, choosing writing assignments that suited him. He worked as writer, director, dialogue writer – within a span of a few years, Jandhyala could cherry-pick the work he wanted to do.

The story however, had a cruel twist at the end. At the age of 50, having spent 25 years in the film industry, Jandhyala Subramanya Sastry breathed his last due to a cardiac arrest. His influence reverberates across decades and era, from EVV to Trivikram. Passing away at 50 was really too early for a person who was contributing so much to field of art.

TFI Diaries The Genius Of Jandhyala aha na pellanta

Jandhyala has lit up so many faces with his writing, filled joy in so many hearts. And yet, greedy as we are, there is one lingering regret – had he been alive today, we would have been blessed with at least two more gems in the library of Telugu cinema.

Seven Shah Rukh Khan flops that are actually good in hindsight

1

Shah Rukh Khan is now over 50 years and whether you like him or hate him, there’s no denying one fact.

He is the only guy in the present crop of superstars who has made it on his own. The guy went through theatre, television, films – to finally get where he is. Of course, there are the Irrfan Khans and Nawazuddin Siddiquis too, but among superstars, he’s the only self-made star around.

When he started, Shah Rukh Khan’s choice of films was rather strange. His first two films starred him as a good boy in unfortunate circumstances, but after that – he went berserk. His choice of films in the next few years could only be described as Harakiri in hindsight, but like he says, it all worked out in the end.

Not all of those films were successful, but not all of them were bad either. Here are eight Shah Rukh Khan flops that seem pretty cool in hindsight.

1. CHAMATKAAR (1992): Directed by Rajiv Mehra, the film stars Shah Rukh Khan as a young man who wants to built a school on his property, a long lost dream of his father. However, he gets cheated by his best friend, and lands up in Mumbai – cheated, broke, and angry – and takes refuge in a cemetery.

Unknown to him, there’s a ghost in the cemetery – a former ganglord who has unfulfilled wishes of his own – a fantastic Naseeruddin Shah having lots of fun with the character. The ghost – ironically called Amar Kumar, helps Shah Rukh Khan in return for ‘atma ko chain’, and the film then carves a crazy path from there on. Chamatkar is an odd, goofy film, but it’s a lot of fun too.

2. ANJAAM (1994): Shah Rukh Khan had been nominated for the Filmfare Award for the Best Villain in the previous year for Darr, and with the way he was going, it seemed like the guy had decided to pursue a career as an antagonist.

Starring Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit for the first time, Anjaam is the story of a man obsessed with a woman who is already committed to another man. Sounds like the story of Darr? Well, Anjaam is Darr on steroids, mincing no words, and not shying away from showing a truly evil villain. Shah Rukh Khan won the award for the Best Villain for this film.

3. MAYA MEMSAAB (1993): Based on Gustave Flaubert’s novel Madame Bovary, it’s sad that the film is known today only for the scene with Deepa Sahi. The novel was so scandalous when it released, that obscenity cases were filed against the writer. Directed by Ketan Mehta (who went on to marry Sahi), the film was a bold step at a time when Bollywood was majorly making crime capers and soppy love stories.

Shah Rukh Khan stars as Lalit, a younger lover to the elder Maya, who was an independent, intelligent and successful woman. Maya Memsaab was a fresh take on heroines in Hindi cinema, and the film still manages to grip your attention when you watch it in 2015.

4. YES BOSS (1997): Starring Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla, Yes Boss narrates the story of a likeable, shy man who goes out of his way to help his boss indulge in extra-marital affairs. He is paid extra for it, and seems to be happy with the set up.

However, things get complicated when his asshole boss (Aditya Pancholi) begins to flirt with the girl he likes – Seema – an aspiring model. Shah Rukh Khan is called Rahul, so you know what you’re getting. However, unlike other dramatic films of the 90s, Yes Boss is an unassuming film that explains exactly how Shah Rukh Khan climbed up the ladder of success. It was probably also the beginning of his Raj/Rahul roles that he is known for.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Td5NnXjPFas

5. DIL SE (1998): To this day, no one really knows why Dil Se failed at the box office. Just the names of the people involved in the film should have been enough. It was produced by Mani Ratnam, Ram Gopal Verma and Shekar Kapur – the three biggest names in the 90s. The story was written by Tigmanshu Dhulia, the music was by AR Rahman and it starred the biggest star of the 90s – Shah Rukh Khan himself.

Dil Se is the story of an All India Radio executive who falls in love with a mysterious woman he meets during an assignment in the North East states of India. As he meets her on and off, he realizes there are shades to her that he had no clue about. A film that attempted to raise questions on progress, development and human rights violations, Dil Se probably failed because the audience couldn’t take Shah Rukh Khan in any other role but that of Rahul and Raj. Dil Se is still revered by film students today for Dhulia’s dialogues, and Santosh Sivan’s cinematography. We at Wirally also thought Dil Se was Rahman’s best album so far.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-XvPs8e_Oc

6. PAHELI (2005): Directed by Amol Palekar, and produced by Shah Rukh Khan’s banner, Paheli was adapted from a story written by Vijayadan Detha.

The film tells the story of a lousy loser (Kishan) who is dull, boring and sent away just after marriage, to look after the family’s business. A ghost sees this and takes his place, wooing the newly wed Lachha (Rani Mukherjee). Paheli won critical acclaim, hailed as the best looking film India had ever produced. Unfortunately, the audience didn’t think to agree with it. Thanks to soulful music by MM Kreem and breathtaking cinematography by Ravi K. Chandran, Paheli remains one of those inexplicable flops in Indian cinema.

7. SWADES (2004): If Paheli didn’t do well, Shah Rukh Khan wasn’t probably surprised. The previous year saw another film tank – Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Swades.

Gowarikar was fresh off the success of the humongous Lagaan, Shah Rukh Khan was going through a purple patch. It was a unique story, Shah Rukh Khan was going in for a complete image overhaul, and there weren’t any unnecessary gimmicks the film resorted to.

Shah Rukh Khan put in his best performance in the film, and yet, inexplicably, the film sank. Critics and fans have long theorized that had Swades succeeded, we might have seen a different Shah Rukh Khan today.

Shah Rukh Khan has seen the biggest hits of the industry in his career spanning 25 years, and honestly, some of those films weren’t too great. Dil Toh Pagal Hai, for example, is a very mediocre story and it went on to break records.

However, these seven films have no reason to have flopped, and yet they did. May be Indian fans go more by emotions than logic. May be that’s how we are!

SRK launches ‘Fan’ trailer, and it’s Fantastic!

Shah Rukh Khan launched the trailer for his new film on his 50th birthday, and it has already registered The second teaser of the film, FAN, introduces the biggest fan of the biggest star, Gaurav.

This is not the first time Shah Rukh Khan is doing a film in double roles – Om Shanti Om and Duplicate both had the same themes. But the fact that Gaurav is Shahrukh’s look-alike and doesn’t look exactly like him, makes it more realistic and amazing. The movie is releasing on 15th April, 2016. And, of course, SRK FANs just can’t wait anymore!

We Bet You Didn’t Know These Bollywood Films Adapted from Novels

0

(By Veena Pulapaka)

Inspiration can be taken from just about anything, and looks like even Bollywood doesn’t shy away from taking some inspiration from good old novels to satisfy the growing needs of Indian movie-mongers who look for different concepts in films.

Since the inception of cinema as an art form, films have been ‘adapted’ from books – be it concepts, themes, characters, storylines or the whole book. Here is a list of Bollywood films adapted from novels.

1- Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam (1962)

Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam is a 1962 Hindi film produced by Guru Dutt and directed by Abrar Alvi. It‘s based on a Bengali novel, “Shaheb Bibi Golam??? written by Bimal Mitra. The book is a look into the tragic fall of the Haveli system and bonded labour in Bengal during the British Raj. The film stars Guru Dutt, Meena Kumari, Rehman, Waheeda Rehman and Nazir Hussain.

The film was first made in Bengali, starring Kanu Banerjee and Uttam Kumar. Later adapted into Hindi by Guru Dutt, the film was a major critical and commercial success, with critics attributing it to Meena Kumari’s outstanding performance as Chhoti Bahu, which is regarded as one of the best performances of Hindi cinema.

2- Guide (1965)

Guide is a 1965 romantic drama film which stars Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman in lead roles. The film is based on the novel “The Guide???, written by R. K. Narayan. It was directed by Vijay Anand. The film was a box office (BO) hit on its release. The movie proved to be memorable for its top-notch performances by the lead actors and music score by S. D. Burman. However, the interesting part lies in the end of the film being different from that of the book.

In the book, Raju sets out to woo Rosie. However, in the film (probably keeping the society of the time in mind), Rosie is shown to be unhappy in the marriage. Also, in the film, Dev Anand dies as a famous baba. This is not explicitly mentioned in the novel by RK Narayan, which is a masterpiece on human psychology and ambition.

3- Tere Mere Sapne (1971)

Tere Mere Sapne is a 1971 film produced by Dev Anand, which was written and directed by his own brother Vijay Anand under the banner of Navketan Films. The story is based on “The Citadel???, a novel written by A.J. Cronin. ‘The Citadel’ was a path breaking novel about medical ethics and has been lauded around the world.

Tere Mere Sapne stars Dev Anand, Vijay Anand, Mumtaz, and Hema Malini in the lead characters. The film’s music was scored by S. D. Burman. The film was touted to be a commercial pot-broiler. The film was later made into Bengali and Telugu as well.

4- Junoon (1978)

Junoon is a 1978 Hindi film produced by Shashi Kapoor. The award-winning film was critically acclaimed which was directed by Shyam Benegal. The film is based on Ruskin Bond’s fictional novella, “A Flight of Pigeons???. Set during the Indian Rebellion of 1857, the book narrates the story of a British woman who take the help of Muslim and Hindu Indians to reach their family after her husband is killed in a church.

Junoon’s cast included Shashi Kapoor, his wife Jennifer Kendal, Nafisa Ali, Tom Alter, Shabana Azmi, Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Naseeruddin Shah, Deepti Naval, Pearl Padamsee and Sushma Seth.

5- Devdas (2002)

Devdas is a 2002 romantic drama film directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. It’s based on the 1917 Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novella called “Devdas???. The film follows the life of Devdas (Shah Rukh Khan) and Paro (Aishwarya Rai). This is the third Hindi version and the first film version of Hindi to be made in color. Devdas was declared a hit upon its release by Box Office.

For long, Indian cinema has been obsessed with Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel. There have been 16 adaptations of the novel into cinema, with some versions being shot in Pakistan and Bangladesh as well. However, not many know that Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay wrote the novel when he was only 17!!!

6- Parineeta (2005)

Parineeta is a 2005 Indian musical romantic drama film. It was adapted from the 1914 Bengali novella, “Parineeta??? written by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. Directed by debutant Pradeep Sarkar, the film was based upon a screenplay written by the film’s producer, Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

The film starred Vidya Balan, Saif Ali Khan and Sanjay Dutt in lead roles. Other notable performances were by Raima Sen who plays supporting role of Lalita’s chirpy cousin, Sabyasachi Chakrabarty who plays the pivotal role of Shekhar’s father, Diya Mirza, with a cameo appearance as Shekhar’s fiancé and Rekha, with a cameo performance of a night club (Moulin Rouge) singer.

7- The Blue Umbrella (2005)

The Blue Umbrella is a 2005 drama film based on the novel, “The Blue Umbrella???, by Ruskin Bond. It was directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. It stars Shreya Sharma and Pankaj Kapur in lead characters. The music was scored by Bhardwaj himself for which lyrics were penned by Gulzar.

The Blue Umbrella is a beautiful story of a little girl who exchanges her necklace for a beautiful blue umbrella. Very soon, the umbrella is the cynosure of all eyes in the village, especially of a shopkeerp – Ram Bharosa – who desires the umbrella. When his apprentice offers to steal it for him, and gets caught, Ram Bharosa is accused of being a thief. The film managed to capture the essence of the story in a beautiful way, going on to win National Awards for those involved in the making of the film.

8- Omkara (2006)

Omkara is a 2006 crime drama film. It was adapted from Shakespeare’s “Othello???, co-written and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. It starred Ajay Devgan, Saif Ali Khan, Vivek Oberoi and Kareena Kapoor in the lead roles. The supporting roles played by Naseeruddin Shah, Konkona Sen Sharma and Bipasha Basu. The film was set in Meerut, a town in Western Uttar Pradesh. The film claimed huge success at the Box office.

Othello is one of the most revered plays in the world, and performed in every country where theatre is alive and kicking. Bharadwaj localized the play by using themes like caste and discrimination, and fusing them with universal Shakespearean themes like greed and envy.

9- Lootera (2013)

Lootera is a 2013 period romantic drama film directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. It was based on author O. Henry’s 1907 short story “The Last Leaf???. It was set in the period of 1950s. The film stars Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha in lead roles. Lootera released to worldwide critical acclaim on 5 July 2013. It was counted as one of the best movies of the year 2013.

The Last Leaf was written by O.Henry, considered a master of the short story genre. His stories adopt a humorous lens to look at the underbelly of society – thieves, prisons, little schemes, and twists in the tale.

10- Haider (2014)

Haider is a 2014 crime drama film directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. The film is a contemporary take on William Shakespeare’s tragedy “Hamlet???. It’s set amidst the insurgency-hit Kashmir conflicts of 1995 and civilian disappearances. Haider, a young student and a poet, returns to Kashmir at the peak of the conflict to seek answers about his father’s disappearance and ends up being hauled into the politics of the state.

Haider is the third installment of Bhardwaj’s Shakespearean trilogy after Maqbool (2003) and Omkara (2006). It stars Shahid Kapoor as the titular protagonist, and co-stars Tabu, Shraddha Kapoor and Kay Kay Menon. And an important role played by Irrfan Khan who appears in an extended special appearance.

Weekend Stories : These Engineering Students Are Being An Inspiration

0
Weekend Stories,Inspiration

The city is only growing bigger as each day passes. Not only in term of density of the population but the density of vehicles too, which is increasing at an amazing speed. If you list the issues we face travelling on road, we all would come out with many. But, how far are we ready to take an initiative to bring a solution to such issues?

Losing a senior at college in one of the blind turns, a group of youngsters from MJ College of Engineering and Technology working under the name ‘Youth League’ have come forward to install convex mirrors at blind turns around KBR Park. We might just notice the convex mirrors, but the effort behind this seemed quite challenging for the young minds.

download (3)

It is not only the commuters who are benefiting out of this, the by standers too on footpath have noticed vehicles speeding down at these turns. One person who reaped out of this situation even left a stick note on one of the mirrors stating that they saved his life. What more is over whelming than knowing someone actually did benefit and in turn thanked you for a social deed executed so successfully. This is definitely a boost for the youngsters!

THEIR EFFORTS

Being engineering students, the theoretical part of these mirrors was easy to frame but it was not the same to execute it. It was a tedious job for them to get the needed approvals, permissions and funds to execute this project. White Water Construction Company helped them with Rs. 60,000 and they have been successful in installing 10 convex mirror so far.

They are looking to install another 40 around the city which sounds delightful. Way to go guys!!!

Team Wirally wishes you all luck!!

8 Times Rajesh Roshan Didn’t Give a Damn

0

Intellectual Property Rights: are the rights given to persons over the creations of their minds. They usually give the creator an exclusive right over the use of his/her creation for a certain period of time.

Clearly, nobody explained this to Rajesh Roshan.

In case you’re wondering who it is, he is brother to filmmaker Rakesh Roshan (who has a fetish for beginning his movie names with ‘K’ – Krrish, Khoon Bhari Maang, Koi Mil Gaya, Karan Arjun). Rajesh Roshan is his brother, who has another fetish – Kopying songs.

Not that Bollywood is immune to lifting songs. We have had a long tradition of lifting songs, from the legendary RD Burman, to today’s Pritam.

However, there are a few who stand out in this illustrious list. Say the word ‘Copycat’ and two names pop up like freshly toasted bread – Pritam and Anu Malik. Pritam, coming in the age of Google and YouTube, at least scrounges around the world to find tunes from Korea and Bangladesh. Anu Malik, who started his career in the age of Vivid Bharati, took a few more liberties. (Watch his version of The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly here).

However, if there is one person who wins the competition hands down – it is Rajesh Roshan. Not only for lifting songs, but for blatantly lifting the most famous songs on earth. Here are 8 times when Rajesh Roshan didn’t give a damn about Intellectual Property Rights.

1. HOTEL CALIFORNIA – BY THE EAGLES:

This is the song that defined the career of the band – The Eagles. A song that every Engineering student with a guitar learnt the riff to – and then bought a DSLR camera. Hotel California is a haunting, surreal song about a man who enters a hotel and can’t get out.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puHoadtIivc

You know how a song enters our head and refuses to leave? We sing the song on and on, till a friend smashes a bucket full of water on our heads and asks us to stop. Doesn’t work like that with Rajesh Roshan. He took the song and converted it into a shitty song in a shitty 90s film called Jaane Jigar.

Laoon Kahaan Se is the name of the song. And probably what Rajesh Roshan was thinking when he needed a new song. Kahaan se laaoon? Eagles se laata hoon!

And he gave us this song. Starring Mamta Kulkarni and three other random Bollywood gundas, the song is so ordinary, it makes Nayan Mongia seem like Viv Richards.

2. CEDDIN DEDEN (TURKISH MARCHING SONG):

You’d think a song that’s used by a country’s military would be sacrosanct to the country. Think again!

Cos ain’t no tune too far away for our bro. Rajesh Roshan lifted this song, a traditional Turkish military song, and brought it to Bollywood.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ErgSS6DzaCk

In Krrish, remember when Krrish dances in the Hero Honda Presents – Great Bombay Circus? The guy had every superpower known to man, and yet chose to dance with clowns to impress the girl. A song so subtle, that they had to explain the gist of Dil Na Diya with the help of a red, heart shaped balloon.

Once you play the song, you realize Krrish isn’t all that super a power. He has an uncle who knows people in the Turkish army. Connections man, connections!

3. VOICES – BY VANGELIS

The year 2000 was the beginning of the new century. When most Indians realized the Y2K virus was just hype, and they went back to surfing desibaba.com on their Pentium 2 PCs. It was also the year Hrithik Roshan debuted in Kaho Na Pyar Hai, a film that gave every teenage Indian girl an orgasm twice (Rohit, and Raj).

Rohit, the scruffy lad who sings and plays the guitar wins Amisha Patel’s heart by singing this song on her birthday.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZBodrcJyuE

At this point, we should introduce you to Vangelis. Vangelis is a Greek multiple award-winning music composer who gave the music for legendary films like Chariots of Fire, Blade Runner, and Carl Sagan’s Cosmos. Not many people in India know of Vangelis.

But not Rajesh Roshan.

Rajesh Roshan is obsessed with Vangelis. He has lifted his music not once, but on multiple occasions (Do a little Google Search, you lazybum!). Vangelis is known for putting years into his albums, winning awards and the acclaim of music critics. But what are trivialities like copyrights, when your nephew is making his debut, eh? (If you don’t have even a minute in your busy schedule, skip directly to 1:15)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2N9TmYMejg

4. IN THE SUMMERTIME – BY SHAGGY

Now this is where things get crazy. To lift a riff, a track, or a basic tune is one thing. But how about lifting the entire tune of a song and bringing it to desi audiences?

Ladies and gentlemen, meet Shaggy – a singer your grandmother wouldn’t approve of – and that’s got nothing to do with his name (Don’t pretend your grandma knows English!).

Shaggy is a Jamaican-Canadian singer and DJ who recorded the song In The Summertime, a song that talks about black guys drinking rum and chilling on the beach. Not very deep, I know, but you wouldn’t epic shit from a guy named Shaggy.

Rajesh Roshan took the song and repackaged it for an Akshay Kumar – Sonali Bendre starrer Tarazu. Tarazu means the weighing scale, and he was only setting the universe’s balance in order. The song is ridiculous on two levels – the tune, and Akshay Kumar dancing with random black guys in what can only be called derogatory. This, however, isn’t the only gem in the film. There’s another song called SuSu Su Aa Gaya Main Kya Karoon. Real su…su…subtle, man!

5. OH! CAROL – NEIL SEDAKA

Neil Sedaka was a singer who shot to fame in the late 1950s with soppy songs about love, unfulfilled love, and fulfilled love. He also danced like he was in Class 3 and the teacher didn’t let him to go to the toilet.

The song was recorded in 1958, and enjoyed reasonable success on the radio. Till the year 2000, when Kya Kehna released. Kya Kehna is a film where Saif Ali Khan gets Preity Zinta pregnant. Saif does it again a few years later in Salaam Namaste – clearly he is Unsaif Ali Khan.

For the title song of Kya Kehna, Rajesh Roshan ne Neil Sedaka ke ghar pe daaka daala. He lifted the song, changed bits of it, and got Hariharan to sing it.

6. 500 HUNDRED MILES – VARIOUS ARTISTS

In the year 1990, Jurm, a film starring Vinod Khanna and Meenakshi Seshadri released. The film was directed by Mahesh Bhatt before he became the conscience of Bollywood. It was a time when Bhatt would lift films blatantly from Hollywood.

This song would become a huge hit, and a million love-struck guys would sing it to their girlfriend over the phone, while hiding on the terrace, warding off mosquitoes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BAqgHmIwp00

500 Miles is a folk song that became hugely popular in the USA and Europe in the 60s. The song described the regret of a man who is far away from home and too ashamed to return home. Kind of the feeling I got when I saw my CAT score.

The song has been covered by a number of artists like The Hooters, Joan Baez, and Justin Timberlake. Listening to the original version makes you realize why the film was called Jurm.

7. BARBIE GIRL – BY AQUA

Aqua is a Danish band that garnered a huge hit in the year 1997 with their song Barbie Girl. The song described the life of a very liberal Barbie Doll. You can brush her hair, undress her everywhere. Imagination, life is your creation. However, the makers of Barbie, Mattel, weren’t amused by the song and filed a case.

While India was yet to get introduced to Savita Barbie, a lot of us had listened to this song. I mean, I grew up in Orissa and I had a cassette of the song, so I’m guessing the song was quite well known. But when did that ever stop Rajesh Roshan from churning out a song? Never!

Rajesh Roshan gave the music for a film called Lawaris. True to its name, the film, starring Jackie Shroff, Akshaye Khanna, and Manisha Koirala, got lost amidst the other films released that year. However, the film remains relevant for one reason – Rajesh Roshan lifting off Aqua’s Barbie Girl.

The song is amazing, simply for the balls of steel you need to lift the biggest hit of the year. To top it off, the song has Manisha Koirala and Akshaye Khanna dancing in white trousers and saffron shirts – like two Bajrang Dal activists on cocaine!

8. TITANIC THEME SONG – CELINE DION

When Titanic released in the year 1997, India learnt two major things. You wouldn’t have guessed it with the doped-out Art teacher you had in school, but Titanic changed the way we looked at sketching forever.

It was also the year when Indians started learning English songs. Every Night In My Dreams…was a song that every middle class Indian learnt. The song seemed to be better than the Govinda hits that were doing the rounds back then, and even though there aren’t any statistics, it is probably the most popular English song in India to date.

However, while HMS Titanic sank, one man was keeping the memories alive. Yup.

Released just two years later, was the film Daag – The Fire. Starring Sanjay Dutt, Chandrachur Singh and Mahima Chaudhry, the film was apparently a hit at the box office (Don’t know man, haven’t watched it). However, the highlight of the film was this song that was lifted by Rajesh Roshan.

It is true that only the first line of the film was lifted, but you know what they say – it’s the tip of the iceberg.

It’s sad that while Pritam and Anu Malik are paying the price for a tradition that Hindi cinema has upheld since the 1950s, one guy gets away with the most blatant lifting in the history of blatant lifting!

Rajesh Roshan doesn’t do too many films these days, restricting himself to films by Rajesh Roshan. Someone should inform him about YouTube.com!

5 Characters Of Ali-Puri Combination That Were Kickass

0

Puri Jaganadh is known for his special slots of humour with the comedian he uses. Brahmanandam, Ali, Venu Madhav, MS Narayana, Dharmavarapu Subramanyam, all have worked with him. However, he always has a special role for Ali in most of his movies. Out of the 28 movies he directed so far, Ali was part of 20. The most by any actor or technician to have worked with him.

Ali not only delivers what Puri wants, but enhances and takes it to peaks throwing the audience into laughter. While watching Puri Jaganadh’s movies now, the audience are waiting to see the character Ali will come up to add some flavour to the movie. Let’s take a look at those characters which stood out in their combination.

IDIOT – Bidar..Isuka…Challadaniki. Yes!

ali2

When we were watching this for the first time, everyone was curious to know what he was doing by taking sand or isuka to Bidar. That buglar look and mannerism automatically induces some laughter.

SUPER – JOHN ABRAHAM

ali

The appearance of this character itself puts us in splits. A good artist but falters when under pressure gave us immense laughs. That confrontation with lie detector is one piece of comedy that will always stand out. Hilarious!!

CHIRUTHA – NACHIMI

ali4

It was probably an inspiration from Thailand for Puri Jaganadh after shooting a series of movies there. A Eunuch role called Nachimi makes the rest characters around him go simply crazy with his massaging techniques and those Thai-Telugu words. Bagunaaraaa..Bagunaraaaaa!!

POKIRI – PRESIDENT OF BEGGAR ASSOCIATION

ali5

One of the best comedy tracks off late, Ali shows whats called a ‘hell’ to software engineer Brahmi for degrading them as beggars and finally ends up bullying all of his salary.

DESAMUDURU – KHAIDI SHANKAR / HIMAYALAN BABA

ali3

Shankar’s story of becoming a Himayalan Baba was probably more interesting than the movie itself. The way he narrates his story was of top notch. It literally got us so engrossed and interested in his story.

Here we leave you with a scene from Super. Have a great day filled with laughter!!
