General Thorat from the Indian Army had prepared and submitted a report to the home ministry warning the political leadership of a much anticipated aggression from China’s side, but was ignored straight away by our political masters. Had the warnings been taken into stride on time, a large number of casualties and a massive defeat could have been prevented.
The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) launched an attack on all fronts simultaneously encircling India in its trap when our leadership was sitting in Delhi discussing unyielding policies. India was attacked on the wee hours on October 20, 1962 in Ladakh, northern Uttarakhand and NEFA (presently Arunachal Pradesh) at the same and caught us unawares and ill-prepared to react on time. The Indian Army was grossly outnumbered on most of the forward posts (8:1) and extremely poorly equipped.
“Hindi Chini Bhai Bhai” was the standard diplomatic line that enjoyed unfounded importance by the state machinery in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s from Nehru and party. Though, silent are the reasons for sudden buildup of such a high-level of trust on Chinese, it could only be described as mere foolishness on the part of India. This over affectionate stance of India towards China spelled doom for the former.
Something that went overhead for almost all the defense experts of the time was why was the Indian Air Force (IAF) not allowed to carry out an attack on the enemy. Their function was only limited to dropping food supplies to the Indian Army. However, had IAF been employed for a more inclusive role, the situation could have been vastly different considering the fact that our Air Force was superior to China’s at the time. the war, things could have changed differently.
It is widely believed that the Indian Army ran out of food, artillery and ammunition supplies during the war. The backup was weak and the status quo was maintained for considerable time that resulted in further weakening of Indian stance on the border area. Therefore, logistical failure could also have been a main reason for the debacle.
Indian Army has always been invincible and especially in our backyards we are next to God in self defense, to put it more precisely. However, in absence of proper strategy and advanced weapons the defeat was playing on the cards. This damaged the morale of our troops and also led to dejection in the hearts of millions of countrymen who had never dreamt of such a humiliating defeat. The Army fought a valiant battle though being outnumbered. It is a travesty that no one in my generation has heard about Shaitan Singh and Pyara Singh. If the Army had planned this out and with logistical support this war could easily have gone the other way.
Even though unprepared Indian Army stood strong on the battlefield and were beginning to regroup and consolidate for a longer war. From nowhere the Chinese pulled a masterstroke, they unilaterally announced cease fire after their initial rapid thrusts, because it gave the Chinese a clear victory instead of an uncertain prolonged war. The Government, shocked by the rapid Chinese thrusts into Indian territory, quickly accepted the cease fire. This cemented the Chinese victory more than the initial losses by the Army.
It seems as if the 1962 war lost not because of a superior Chinese army, but because of India’s then poor strategic and political leadership. Not only was the government wrong about letting the Army go to war without enough preparation and logistical support and hoping that they would still win it, they were also wrong about doubting their capability once they consolidated and quickly accepting the cease-fire. 1962 wasn’t lost on the battlefield, as much as it was lost in the mind.
About 500 Indian jawans and officers were taken prisoner in the Tawang sector alone. As Brig. A.J.S. Behl says in his interview: “My family got two telegrams: ‘2nd Lt Behl missing, believed dead’.”

జూన్ 21న ఉదయం 10.31 గంటలకు ప్రారంభం కానున్న ఈ సూర్యగ్రహణం మధ్యాహ్నం 2.30 గంటలకు ముగుస్తుంది. దీని పూర్తి ప్రబావం మధ్యాహ్నం 12.18 గంటలకు కనిపిస్తుంది… దాదాపు 3 గంటల 33 నిమిషాలకు పూర్తి గ్రహణం ఏర్పడుతుంది. ఈ సూర్యగ్రహణం యొక్క సూతక కాలం 12 గంటల ముందే ప్రారంభం అవుతుంది.. అంటే జూన్ 20 9 గంటల 25 నిమిషాలకు ప్రారంభమై గ్రహణంతో సూతక కాలం సమాప్తం అవుతుంది.

అలాగే గురువారాలు స్వామికి మల్లెలతో పూజ చెయ్యడం చాల శ్రేష్టం అని చెప్తారు. అలాగే స్వామికి పరిమళభరితమైన పువ్వులంటే చాల ప్రీతి. అందుకే పారిజాతంపూలతో పూజ చేస్తారు.. తులసి రాములవారికి ప్రీతిపాత్రమైనది, అందుకే హనుమంతునికికూడా ఇష్టమైనది. కలువ పువ్వులు కూడా శ్రీరాములవారికి ఎంతో ఇష్టమైన పూలు. కేరళలోని ఇరింజలకుడలో భరతునుకి ఒక దేవాలయం వుంది. అందులో అతనికి కలువ పూల మాల వెయ్యడం సాంప్రదాయం. శ్రీరాములవారికి హనుమంతుడు మరియు భరతుని మీద ఉన్నంత వాత్సల్యం ఉండడం చేత, ఆంజనేయ స్వామికి కూడా కలువ మాల వేస్తారు.

అనిత, దుర్గ ఇద్దరూ భిన్న ధృవాలన్న సంగతి వారి ప్రేమ లేత చిగురు దశలో ఉన్నప్పుడు మనకు తెలుస్తుంది కానీ పరస్పర ఆకర్షణలో వాళ్లు అంతగా గమనించరు. ఈ ఇంటర్వ్యూ సీన్ లోనే ఆ సాక్షాత్కారం పూర్తిగా జరిగేది. “అప్పుడంటే నీ పరిస్థితులు నిన్నలా చేయించాయి. ఇప్పుడేమైంది? న్యాయస్థానానికి వచ్చి నిజం చెప్పచ్చు కదా? ” అని ఆమె అడిగిన ప్రశ్నకి అతను “నా దృష్టిలో గురునారాయణ్ న్యాయం. సర్కార్ (రామిరెడ్డి) చట్టం” అని తాను ఉన్న చీకటి ప్రపంచపు మూలసూత్రాన్ని one-liner లా చెబుతాడు దుర్గ. “పోనీ ఇప్పుడు జరుగుతున్న సమస్యలకి పరిష్కారం ఏమిటో నువ్వు చెప్పగలవా? ” అని ఆమెని ఎదురు ప్రశ్నిస్తాడు. అనితకు ప్రతి సారీ ఎదురయ్యే ప్రశ్న ఇదే. సీతారామ శాస్త్రి అనిత ఆదర్శాలు వల్లించినప్పుడల్లా ఆమెను ఈ ప్రశ్నతోనే నిలువరిస్తాడు. అనిత దృష్టిలో ప్రతి వ్యక్తీ తన పనుల పట్ల individual responsibility తీసుకోవడం ఒకటే పరిష్కారం. కానీ అరాచకమే నైజమై బ్రతుకుతున్న ఆమె చుట్టూ సమాజం ఈ నిజాన్ని కేవలం ఒక మొండి ఆదర్శంగా మార్చేస్తాయి. ఆమె ఇంటర్వ్యూ లో నిజాయితీగా అడిగే ప్రశ్నలకి “గదైతే ఖండిస్తన్న” అని అబద్దాలాడే కోటా పాత్ర అందుకు సాక్ష్యం. ఈ క్లిష్ట ప్రశ్నకు సమాధానం దుర్గ దగ్గర ఉంటుంది. కానీ అతను అనితకి అర్ధమయ్యే భాషలో చెప్పలేడు. అతని ప్రపంచంలో దెబ్బకు దెబ్బే సమాధానం. ఏ శక్తుల్ని ఎదిరించి పోరాడుతున్నాడో అతనూ అలాంటి శక్తిగానే తయారయ్యే అనివార్యతని ఒప్పుకున్న resignation అతనిది.
తను తన అన్నయ్య స్థానాన్ని భర్తీ చేస్తాననీ, ఎంత మంది ఎదురైనా చంపుతానని ఆమెకు నిస్సంకోచంగా చెప్పినప్పుడు వెళ్లిపోయిన అనిత తరువాతి అంతర్మధనాన్ని మనం తర్వాత ఎక్కడా చూడం. కొంత కాలం తర్వాత అతనికి మళ్లీ తారసపడిన ఆమె పూర్తిగా కరుడుగట్టిన idealist అవుతుంది. ఒక నిజాయితీ గల పోలీస్ ఆఫీసర్ని పెళ్లి కూడా చేసుకుంటుంది. తన ఆదర్శాల్ని కొనగిస్తుంది. ఈ పాత్రని ఇలాగే కొనసాగిస్తే అది ఒక పాత్రగా కాక కేవలం పైన అనుకున్నట్టు సమాజపు మనస్సాక్షి అన్న metaphor గానే మిగిలిపోయేది. కానీ చివర్లో తన భర్తతో దుర్గకి ఇదివరకున్న సంబంధం గురించి చెప్పినప్పుడు ఈ ఖాళీ భర్తీ అవుతుంది. దుర్గ స్థానంలో అప్పుడు ఎవరున్నా అలాగే చేసేవారు కాబట్టి అతన్ని వదిలెయ్యడం తప్పేమో అన్న ఆమె అంతర్మధనాన్ని భర్తతో వ్యక్తం చేస్తుంది. దుర్గ ఆ రోజు ఇంటర్వ్యూ లో ఇచ్చిన సమాధానాలు ఆమెను శాంతపరుస్తాయి. తాను వదిలి వెళ్లిపోయిన దుర్గ అంత అమాయకుడేం కాదు. దుర్గ పరిస్థితుల వల్లే ఆ ఊబిలో ఇరుక్కోవచ్చు, కానీ అనిత అన్నట్టుగానే అతను బైటికీ రావచ్చు. కానీ రాడు. పరిస్థితులు ఒక ఫార్శ్యం ఐతే అతని లోపల కూడా తన అన్నయ్య లో ప్రవహించే రక్తమే ఉంది. దాని ప్రకంపనలు మనం అనితని బీచ్ వద్ద ఏడిపించిన వాళ్ళని అతను కొట్టేటప్పుడే మనం చూడచ్చు. పరిస్థితులు వేరేలా ఉంటే అతను అనుకున్నట్టు ఉద్యోగం చేస్తూ అనితని పెళ్లి చేసుకుని హ్యాపీ గా సెటిల్ అయ్యేవాడేమో. కానీ పరిస్థితులు ఇటు నెట్టాక, ఈ అగాధంలో అతను సహజంగానే అమిరిపోతాడు. అతని అన్నయ్య చావుకి పగ తీర్చుకునేటప్పుడే “ఇప్పుడు ప్రశ్న చంపాలా వద్దా అని కాదు, ఎలా చంపాలని” అని అప్పటికప్పుడే ఆరితేరిపోతాడు. Godfather సినిమాలోని Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) పాత్ర ఈ దుర్గ పాత్రకి ప్రేరణ అని తెలిసిందే. ఐతే Godfather లో Kay (Diane Keaton), Michael తన కుటుంబం లోని మిగతా వాళ్ళలా కాదన్న అపోహతో అతన్ని పెళ్లి చేసుకుంటుంది కానీ మోసపోతుంది. Part 2 లో అతన్నుంచి విడిపోతుంది. ఇక్కడ అనిత దుర్గను పెళ్లి చేసుకుంటే ఆమె integrity దెబ్బ తినడమే కాదు, ఆమె తెలివితేటల్ని ఆమే అవమానించుకున్నట్టు కూడా. డ్రామా పరంగా కూడా పెళ్లయ్యాక అతన్ని ఆక్షేపించడం తప్ప ఆమే ఏమీ చేయలేదు. ఆమె అతన్ని విడిచిపెట్టి వెళ్ళిపోయింది కనుక, అతనితో వ్యక్తిగత సంబంధం ఇక లేదు కనుకే వీరిద్దరి dynamic ఇంకా ఆసక్తికరంగా ఉంటుంది. భావోద్వేగాల పట్టింపులు లేకుండా అతన్ని clinical గా పరీక్షిస్తుంది అనిత. ఇప్పుడామె దృష్టిలో దుర్గ ఒక సామాజిక రుగ్మతకు లక్షణం మాత్రమే. ఆమె reasoning కి స్పందించే ఆ పాత దుర్గ అతనిలో ఎప్పుడో మాయమైపోయాడని ఇంటర్వ్యూ లోనే ఆమెకు స్పష్టం అవుతుంది. ఒక్కో చోట అనిత పాత్ర దర్శకుడి నైతిక అభిప్రాయాలకి surrogate గా, ఒక్కో చోట ఆడియన్స్ కి ఉండే ప్రశ్నలకి proxy గా పనిచేస్తూనే three dimensions కలిగి ఉంటుంది.
దుర్గలో అంతర్గతంగా ఉన్న హింసాత్మక కోణం నేపథ్యంలో ఈ చెరసాలలో దుర్గ తానే బంధించుకున్నాడా, ఇరుక్కుపోయాడా అన్నది అంత తేలికైన ప్రశ్న కాదు. అనిత ప్రశ్నలకు దుర్గ చెప్పే సమాధానాలు తిరిగి ప్రశ్నలే. సీతారామ శాస్త్రి పాటలో కూడా “నిగ్గదీసి అడుగు” అని సమాజాన్ని అడగమంటాడే తప్ప ఆయనా ఖరాఖండీగా ఏమీ చెప్పడు. ఓపెన్ క్లైమాక్స్ తో దర్శకుడు కూడా ప్రశ్నలతోను, అరకొర సమాధానాలతోనే సరిపెడతాడు. అందుకే “ఆ థియేటర్ లో జరిగిన సంఘటనకి నిన్ను ఇంటర్వ్యూ చేయడానికొచ్చాను” అని అనిత అన్నప్పుడు దుర్గ ఒకటే అంటాడు…. “తెలుసుకుని ఏం చేస్తావ్? ” అని. అనిత ఇచ్చే పరిష్కారాలు అతనికి నప్పవు, అతని చుట్టూ ఉన్నవాళ్లకు కూడా రుచించవు. అనిత ఆలోచనా విధానం బాగా తెలిసిన దుర్గ అందుకే ఆమె చెప్పేది వినిపించుకోడు.
ఈ పాత్రల scope నుండి బైటికొచ్చి ఆలోచిస్తే ఈ ప్రశ్నలకు కనీసం theoreticalగానైనా సమాధానాలుంటాయి. సామాజిక మార్పులు, పటిష్ట వ్యవస్థలు, నీతివంతమైన రాజకీయాలు, కఠినమైన చట్టాలు లాంటివి. కానీ ఈ కథ పరిధిలోకి అవి రావు. ఈ కథ ఒక గాయం. గాయాలకు కట్టు కట్టచ్చు, మందు పూయచ్చు లేదా శాస్త్ర చికిత్సా చేయచ్చు. కానీ చివరికి అది నయమైనా అవ్వకపోయినా, అప్పటివరకూ నొప్పిని మాత్రం భరించాలి. ఆ నొప్పిని బాహాటంగానో పంటిబిగువునో భరిస్తున్న పాత్రల సంఘర్షణే ఈ సినిమా.
In 1923, the growing band of Canadian Baptist Missionaries started the Vizagapatam European & Anglo-Indian Protestant School in a building near Select Talkies close to the old Vizag Railway Station. The school moved to the rented building in St John’s Church compound in 1931. After India’s Independence, the school became the Anglo-Indian Protestant Middle School following a Government directive.
In 1913, the Government Non-European Girls Secondary School was started in the former Government Registry Office building opposite the St John’s Church Compound and was later moved to the old Collectors’ Office. Sanction was accorded by Her Majesty the Queen to the designation of the new Government High School at Vizagapatam as Queen Mary High School for Indian Girls.
The origins of the St Joseph’s Convent (Waltair Convent) & St Joseph’s Fort Girls School (Fort Convent) date back to 1867 when the Vizagapatam Caste Girls Schools in Waltair and the Waltair Girls School in Fort Vizag were placed under the management of the French Sisters of St Joseph of Annecy and were solely supported by the Godey family. From 1858, the Sisters of St. Joseph, led by Mother Anna, stayed at St Anne’s Cathedral. But as their numbers increased, a dedicated convent was erected in Waltair. In 1898, the Sisters of St Joseph moved to the newly built Waltair Convent. The new school, started by the nuns, was then called the St Joseph’s European Girls School.
The Mrs A. V. Narasinga Rao College originated in a school called the ‘Anglo- Vernacular school ‘ which was founded in 1860 by Mr. Grant, Inspector of Schools, Mr. E. Fane, Collector of the district from 1859 to 1862, M.R.Ry G. N. Gajapati Rao and M.R.Ry. C. Venkataswami Nayudu. The leading zamindars of the district, especially Vizianagaram and Bobbili, and Maharaja Sir Gajapati Rao contributed liberally towards the school for many years. In 1878, it was raised to the status of a second-grade college and affiliated to the Madras University. Its name was then changed to ‘the Hindu College’.
Next on the list on our trip down memory lane of the historic schools in Vizag is St Aloysius. The Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales arrived in Vizagapatam in 1846. After initial refusal, the Governing Council agreed in 1847 to Fr. Decompoix being appointed as the chaplain of Catholic soldiers, with the monthly allowance of Rs 50. The Fathers took their residence in the area where St. Aloysius School is at present. The missionary Rev. Fr. Tissot displayed energetic zeal and attempted to build two schools in the area, one for boys and one for girls. In 1847, Rev. Fr. Tissot had acquired a small house near the Beach and started building the institution. This was the first Catholic School in Vizag.
The distinction of being the oldest High School in Vizag belongs to the CBM High School on the Main Road. Originally called the London Mission School, Vizagapatam High School and CBM High School, it was established by the London Missionary Society in 1836 and sold to the Canadian Baptist Mission in 1911.

అందువల్ల పదిహేను రోజులకోసారి పూర్తి రూపంతో పాటు సహజ సౌందర్యాన్ని పొందుతూ.. మిగిలిన 15 రోజులు కుంచించుకు పోతూ అదృశ్యమయ్యే వరకు తగ్గిపోతాడు చంద్రుడు. ఈ కారణంగానే మనకు పౌర్ణమి, అమవాస్యలు ఏర్పడుతున్నాయి. చంద్రుడు రూపాన్ని పూర్తిగా పోకుండా కాపాడాడు కాబట్టి శివుడిని సోమనాథుడని పిలుస్తున్నారు. అంతేకాకుండా నెలవంకను నెత్తిన ధరించిన కారణంగా మహేశ్వరుడిని చంద్రశేఖరుడు అని కూడా పిలుస్తుంటారు.

Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior is a Thai martial arts film, directed by Prachya Pinkaew, the story follows a young Muay Thai fighter ‘Ting’ from a small village, where a statue of Buddha kept in the village’s temple, and its believed that it guarantees the safety of the village, things go wrong as the statue gets stolen and now it’s up to Ting to get it back, the story is pretty standard, but what the movie shines in is in action, the one-on-one fights are choreographed amazingly and are quite intense. Overall, it’s a great action film to watch.

The plot is very well written and film has some great action sequences, Harshawardan does a fantastic job of playing the superhero, the film also touches the topic of problems faced by Indians because of corrupt politicians and police. Also, the film has one of the best chase sequences you’ll ever see in a Bollywood film, if you’re looking for a change from the usual masala Bollywood films, then Bhavesh Joshi Superhero is a great film to watch.
The Night Comes For Us is an Indonesian action thriller film which was written and directed by Timo Tjahjanto, the films follows Ito, who is a former triad enforcer, as he betrays his former gang to save a young girl, what follows is a series of violent moments which will make you bite your nails, the action is over the top with endless fighting sequences and brutal stabbings and killings, the fight choreography is amazing and there are so many stands out moments that it’s hard to pick one particular moment. మా మామగారికి దృష్టి ప్రసాదించండి అని ఓ వరాన్ని కోరింది. యముడు ప్రసాదించాడు. అయినా సావిత్రి వెంట వస్తుండడంతో, యముడు మరో వరాన్ని కోరుకోమన్నా డు. మామగారు పోగొట్టుకున్న రాజ్యాన్ని తిరిగి ప్రసాదించమని కోరింది. యముడు ప్రసాదించాడు. అయినా సావిత్రి వెంట వస్తూండడంతో, ఆమె పతిభక్తిని మెచ్చి మూడో వరం కోరుకోమనగా.. నేను పుత్రులకు తల్లిని అయ్యేట్లు వరాన్ని ప్రసాదించండి అని కోరింది. యముడు సావిత్రి పతిభక్తిని మెచ్చి ఆ వరాన్ని ప్రసాదించాడు. సావిత్రి అడవిలో వటవృక్షం కింద ఉన్న భర్త శరీరం వద్దకు చేరింది. భర్త లేచి కూర్చోగా, వటవృక్షం వద్దనే పూజ చేసి భర్తతో సహా రాజ్యానికి చేరినట్లు కథనం. వటవృక్షాన్ని, సావిత్రిని పూజిస్తూ చేసేదే ‘వట సావిత్రి వ్రతం’ అని పురాణగాథ.
ఈ వ్రతాన్ని చేసే వారు ముందురోజు రాత్రి ఉపవాసం ఉండాలి. వ్రతం రోజు తెల్లవారుజామున నిద్రలేచి తలంటు స్నానం చేసి, దేవుడిని స్మరించుకుంటూ మర్రి చెట్టు వద్దకు వెళ్లి, మర్రి చెట్టు వద్ద అలికి ముగ్గులు వేయాలి. అక్కడ సావిత్రి, సత్యవంతుల బొమ్మలు ప్రతిష్టించాలి. వారి చిత్ర పటాలు దొరకకపోతే పసుపుతో చేసిన బొమ్మలు ప్రతిష్టించుకుని పూజించవచ్చు.. ఈ విధంగా మర్రిచెట్టును పూజిస్తే త్రిమూర్తులను పూజించిన ఫలం కలుగుతుంది. పూజానంతరం నమో వైవస్వతాయ అనే మంత్రాన్ని పఠిస్తూ మర్రిచెట్టుకు 108 సార్లు ప్రదక్షిణ చేసి, నైవేద్యం సమర్పించి, బ్రాహ్మణులు, ముత్తైదువలకు దక్షిణ తాంబూలాదులు సమర్పించాలి. ఇలా చేస్తే భర్త దీర్ఘాయుర్దాయం పొందుతాడు. పూజ పూర్తయ్యాక ప్రతి స్త్రీ, ఐదుగురు సుమంగళుల నొసట బొట్టు పెట్టి గౌరవించాలి. ఇలా చేస్తే స్త్రీలకు ఐదవతనంతో పాటు అష్టైశ్వర్యాలు, సుఖసంతోషాలు చేకూరుతాయి.
